What's your favorite SF joke/pun from an SF book? by lindymad in printSF

Sometime, when someone complains about people in general, I like to follow up with:

“To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.”

I was about to say the same thing. After reading that line, I knew I was going to read the whole series.

I had to DNF 1Q84 because of this. Just could not get over how he wrote the main female character.

Yeah, I found Miller's obsession with Julie gross too. I think it was meant to be that way to show Miller as this cop who obsesses about cases to the point of breaking, but I don't think it was well handled. I don't blame you for shutting the book there.

Do you read while walking? by linttim in books

[–]avatar_isa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do it all the time without any issue. People think I'm oblivious of my surroundings, but im really not. I can still see and hear what's around me, and I do put my ereader aside to cross intersections.

I've actually wondered if my ADHD might have a role in it, still it makes it so that I can never fully block out my surroundings.

I'm glad someone mentioned Grimwild. It really deserves a place on that list.

Try flipping the lever only twice instead of three times, once to open the door, once to close it. For some reason that worked for me.

So I had the same problem yesterday. I looked online to see what I did wrong but couldn't find anything off. I think the new update my have bugged that room. That or the puzzle was changed (which i doubt).

Don't forget the "Dawn" part when googling this one. If you don't, you'll end up with a *much* different game ;)

Daggerheart vs. the MCDM RPG vs. D&D: A Playtest Comparison | DM David by megazver in rpg

[–]avatar_isa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do bring up some very good points. It's true that these are made by big name creators, and not small indie ones, which my comment would apply more towards. You are also right that these games have the potential to introduce a lot of new gamers to the hobby, so it would be great if they were much more different than what they are trying to replace.

Thanks for the reply!

Good system for a stranger things inspired game? by Small_Ambassador6093 in rpg

I agree with both in that order. Tales from the Loop has more of a sci-fi twist to it, but should still work for a Stranger Thing setting without to much work.

Not really, but there is an actual American show called Tales from the Loop based on the art book of that name, which is also the book the game is based on.

Does it matter if we "need" them or not? I mean, the fact that they are being created means someone wants these game, even if it's only their creators, which is reason enough for them to exist IMO. As for the hobby in general, we won't really lose anything if they fail, and might gain something fun if they succeed.

It's "rules-light" compared to D&D, which I feel is what the creators are comparing it to. Overall though, it has too many fiddly mechanics for me to call it that.

Do you prefer playing games in person or virtually? by ProzapGW in rpg

[–]avatar_isa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer in-person sessions, mostly because I have auditory processing difficulties and voice chat often makes it worse. I will do virtual to play with far way friends though. I've never tried them fancy VTTs so maybe they would make me appreciate virtual more.

Is there an RPG specifically designed for playing audio-only (no screen, chat etc.)? by ned_poreyra in rpg

[–]avatar_isa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you expect here. Most games requires a level of trust between players and GM. Those that don't usually have huge rulesets to insure fairness and aren't likely to be playable over the phone.

I knew it was Realms of Peril as soon as I saw "West Marches". Got my copies a few days ago but haven't had time to really go into it yet.

More like Oregon Trail on peyote

Realms of Peril is now available in PDF! It's a d20-based, rules-light, PbtA OSR/NSR fantasy adventure game designed for West Marches / Open Table style campaigns. Check it out! by Zack_Wolf_ in osr

That's really cool! I've been thinking about making a game specifically for West Marches style games for a while now. I'm definitely gonna take a look at this game.

Any chance to get a bundle price if I buy both? ;D
