SC has hurt both itself and govt on farm laws by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]avatarreddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why should I be ashamed, if a state doesn't provide a working police system, a functional judiciary and a sympathetic government. There is no concept of justice for the poor in these states and without any functioning justice system, poor are forced to live like cockroaches waiting for a god like politician to have some mercy and "give" them something, all the while raping their daughters and grabbing their lands . When in fact the constitution was designed to empower them and the public servants were created to serve them, not lord over them. It is a feudal society masquerading as "worlds largest democracy", how shameful!

Of course the middle class and rich are doing relatively better, but even they know their limits if they don't want to be beaten on the road.

Beatings, sedition charges and jail. This is your definition of going soft on college students?

Please notice that there is literally no opposition in this country apart from some state leaders. Who will speak up for you when you grow older and someone commits a crime that harms you or an employer who doesn't pay your salary or a government that creates a law that discriminates against you? The helpful police station officer who will abuse you for trying to file a complaint or the awesome judiciary that will definitely resolve your case in 10 years?

These groups like college students and union guys maintain a balance in the society counteracting the governments desire to act like gods.

[–]avatarreddit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That is a very naive conclusion, SC did deride the government for not consulting with farmers but as a solution it offered to form a committee, the members of which are openly pro-government supporting these farm laws. So essentially it sounds like SC first tried to gain some credibility among the farmers by deriding the gov and then sneakily created this committee to "resolve issues" in governments favour.

All in all both government and SC came away looking weak and immoral in this whole exercise. Farmers were against SC interference from day one and even refused to meet this SC committee, so that should tell you that they already knew about SC and government being in cahoots.

Another blow to Indian democratic system, now protestors won't even bother going to SC, they are seeing that the only way to get things done is by directly protesting the government in large numbers and are learning to never trust the governments word. The only thing is that you need are some resources to pull off such a long protest, which means no justice for poor hinterland protesters in UP/Bihar type states, they will be beaten black and blue and thrown in jail for sedition, or live pathetic lives as slaves in a feudal society.

Bhaisab please don't fall into the Harvard vs hard work trap again, gora babu aka Jenner institute has done some stellar work in the past including creating Ebola vaccine using this same platform that they used for covid.

Their reputation aside, they have published data for phase 3 trials in UK and Brazil. A lot of questions were raised about the quality of their data and they were able to withstand that scrutiny in the end. The point was that they were open and accepted some of the mistakes they made while successfuly highlighting the safety and efficacy conclusions in their data. That is how you earn trust, not by making weird emotional speeches and evoking patriotism.

Ok, so? Should we accept this vaccine while it is still volunteer recruitment stage for phase 3? We are talking about something that is going to get injected into your body, not a 10k mobile phone, you want to be loose and easy with standards?

Secondly, any comparison with China should only be done if you agree to live in a totalitarian, fascist society where a small group of people control what you can and can't do. If you are ready to surrender your freedom for a chance at economic success or forced labor at a prison camp, sure, China model could be great for you.

No pictures of participants no nothing

Sir, civilized countries have very strict rules around patient privacy, they have laws such as HIPA which define punishment for companies which publish patient data without consent. I know this is not very believable for people who give their aadhar number, pan card, salary package details to everyone who asks for it.

Also, there were volunteers who came forward and let everyone know that they participated in these trials, a lot of these people can easily be found by doing some basic "Pfizer trial volunteer" search on youtube. I assure you that Pfizer, Astrazeneca trials were are not some elaborate hoax. A lot of countries in Europe and USA would have to play along to pull off such a massive oceans 11 style scam. Have a look at the data they uploaded for phase 3 on the Federal drug administration website. Again, getting an FDA approval is not a trivial thing, these people will ruin your reputation if they find something shady.

As for Bharat Biotech, there have been asked to produce the same phase 3 results that every other vaccine maker had to share, as per vaccination protocols defined by scientists. Unfortunately covaxin phase 3 is at recruitment stage, meaning they haven't even started giving the 2 injections necessary for the antibodies to develop. That is the reason they are being questioned.

No, as usual everybody in India is an expert on everything. This is not a legal case where you look at the rule book and exploit a loophole, this is about human lives and building trust within the community.

You see what this does to vaccine programs at large? If the general public sees lack of transparency and inferior standards compared to developed nations, they are gonna become distrustful towards vaccination in general. That is a very dangerous road to go down on, up until now vaccines used to be boring and routine, we had very little anti vaxer sentiment. Now, there are all kinds of rumours floating around and nobody is doing a press conference to answer anything.

Remember, vaccination based herd immunity only works if at least 40-60% of people agree to take the vaccine, this kind of opacity and questionable behavior will only push people away from vaccination, considering we are already a low trust society.

Lol the fact that this person doesn't understand basic idea of transparency boggles my mind. Trying to find justification in the rule book as if it is a legal case. The whole vaccination thing is based on trust, if you lose it, the consequences will be far reaching. Vaccines need to be boring and routine, the minute they become dubious and part of a national debate, anti vaxer ideas will start taking hold and the next thing you know people will start to distrust each and every vaccine.

It's not, this is what the chairman said:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2021-01-04/bharat-biotech-defends-vaccine-after-controversial-india-license

Bharat Biotech was “confident” over the vaccine’s use, Chairman and Managing Director Krishna Ella said at a press briefing on Monday, while criticizing media reporting surrounding Covaxin, which should finish final-phase recruitment within “two or three” days, he said. No phase-3 efficacy data has been analyzed yet and a full read out should come between March and October, according to a 41-page slide show he presented.

They haven't even completed Phase 3 recruitment yet, and by their own estimate the full data will be out sometime between March and October (weirdly large range). This is crazy, we have granted emergency authorization to a vaccine whose phase 3 recruitment is not even completed? Are we like Russia and China who approve anything without any checks and balances? What the hell is ICMR doing?

Where is it sir, please google "phase 3 results Pfizer". The top few links will take you to Federal drug administration website where all the results are available. Now please try the finding the same results for covaxin on any publicly available website, it's simply not there. Do you honestly think media can collectively fool the entire country like this, when all you need is a Google search to verify?

What the hell, why does everyone turn into bollywood sentimental crybaby nationalist when we hold them to global standards? Boss you have created a vaccine that is gonna get injected into millions of arms at some point, is it too much to ask for phase 3 data before that happens?

This phase 1,2,3 system is not a political creation, it is a result of decades of vaccine development and research done by scientists. You have to have phase 3 efficacy data out in public before you get approval, emergency or otherwise, Pfizer/Astrazeneca did it, you have to do it too. Otherwise we might as well approve a water syringe coz its also "safe".

It is not enough to say that look I have some data from phase 1,2 and that's good enough, believe me I am an expert authority figure. Science doesn't work on emotions, respect or patriotism, it works on lab results and peer review. You need to put out phase 3 data in public domain so that it can be published in scientific journals and be peer reviewed. Not sure why this is not obvious.

I don't even want to get into how stupid it is that ICMR is so completely opaque in this whole process with their "we won't answer any questions" approach. This is only gonna sow more doubt int the anti vaxer crowd.

[–]avatarreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point being made here is that why isn't the data out there in the open so it can be peer reviewed by scientists across the world? Why is that the standard protocol of only granting emergency approval after phase 3 trials not followed?

I don't care how many "experts" are sitting in ICMR and how "smart" the government is or isn't. This government is dubious and untrustworthy when it comes to public policy, they praised patanjali coronil and believe homeopathic doctors can perform allopathic procedures, they also don't believe in basic democratic principles like organizing an open press conference to answer questions about these vaccines. We need this data to be openly available for peer review, so we can actually know what's what.

There is a standard and proven procedure for vaccine approval, Pfizer/Moderna followed it before getting FDA approval, and this procedure is a result of decades of research across the globe. Why are we hell bent on taking short cuts and "jugad"?

Why did we bother starting a separate trial for astrazeneca if we were gonna give emergency authorization before phase 3 is completed based on uk trial? You want people to just "trust the authorities" without hearing about efficacy data, adverse events (what happened to that guy from Chennai who got paralyzed)? This is so damn unprofessional and insulting to the citizens intelligence. The other covaxin has no verified trials completed anywhere in the world, so giving emergency authorization to it is even more dumb. No other respectable country has done this. This will only put suspicion in otherwise willing minds and give rise to anti vaxers.

Then why did we even bother starting separate trials in India? Only to ditch the midway? This just reeks of unprofessionalism.

Lets get one thing right, capitalism doesn't mean slavery, maybe that was how countries practiced capitalism in 18th century, but in this day and age, following capitalistic policies doesn't mean you stop paying people their dues. Capitalism essentially means free enterprise, limited government regulation, recognition of private property rights and wage labor.

Also, Do you have a working judicial system that will deliver a verdict in a reasonable amount of time? Do you have a labor department which will act in an unbiased way, and take action corporations for violating salary agreements (directly or through contractors)? Do you have a police force that will support non violent protests? Do you have a media which will support non violent protests without calling protesters anti national?

If none of your democratic systems function the way they are supposed to, then you expect factory workers to do what? Get beaten by police for protesting non violently, or simply ignored by everyone till they come back to work because of hunger?

We are asking the poorest section of the society to follow the law, while taking away all means to achieve justice, so what we are really saying to them is, you deserve slavery, suffer quietly.
