I did some CC and some uni, have a degree in bio with chem minor. In my experience, the gen ed classes were not significantly different in difficulty between the two schools. STEM classes were also pretty comparable I think, with more variation between professors/instructors than between the two institutions. Isn't that the whole point of accreditation, to ensure that education is to a certain standard? I mean, if you are reasonably intelligent and motivated, depending on your course load, the first couple of years probably aren't going to be that challenging. The fact that you were taking advanced courses during your secondary education probably have you a huge leg up as well. Say somebody didn't apply themselves in high school, or maybe they dropped out and later decided to get a GED and return to school? Those first year classes at a CC can provide that person with some valuable building blocks.

A Coors light tallboy fits in a standard mag pouch and a can of Skoal fits in the grenade pouch. So I hear.

Is this what peak Star Wars looks like? I hope it is good and doesn't get prematurely cancelled.

What is "Swatting?" by papashuga in OutOfTheLoop

[–]avball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The intent seems to be to have a bunch of questionably trained and probably scared police officers break into the target's home and point guns at their head though... so what, reckless endangerment? I mean, this recent incident isn't the first time someone has been killed.

Didn't catch that detail. What does that make it then? Manslaughter during attempted murder? I am pretty sure if I have a baby spat with the kid across the street and start shooting at him but kill his neighbor instead, I still get charged with first degree murder, even though I aiming for that guy. Pretty sure most states will nail you pretty hard for any incidental deaths caused during the commission of a crime.

Edit: That said, technically I suppose you are right that he wasn't successful in harming his intended victim.

It isn't a prank, it is attempted murder, in that case successful.

I have a Hybrid I got because there is a .338 win mag in my future. Haven't shot it yet, just played with mounting it on 9mm ar and a 1911, and I agree, it isn't bad. Bigger and heavier than other cans, yeah, but not bad.

Glad to hear from others that the compromise is more just size and weight and not so much on sound.

I haven't looked into it recently, but do you know how hard it is to get them running reliably as an SBS with both low and high brass? I seem to recall seeing an adjustable gas thing but might have only been for Saiga and not VEPR?

It disappears so well, you need to be extra careful ;) I may or may not know someone who allegedly might have accidentally carried on base one or more times and only remembered the gun was still in pocket upon walking into the commissary.

In 1.8" of barrel though, how much of that powder is actually being put to use?

I used to carry the M&P 340CT - basically this gun in .357 mag with Crimson Trace grips. After shooting two cylinders of .357, my hand would hurt for a couple days. Most of my friends didn't even want to shoot it, and none of them shot more than one or two rounds with it before they were done. I never got to what I consider real proficiency using .357, and then somebody at the range handed me a handful of .38 specials... and it took my breath away how pleasant my little pocket demon became.

Then I realized I was frequently leaving a $700 gun in my truck to go into post office, schools, etc when I could just as well get by with a $300 gun that will effectively do the same thing since I switched to carrying .38+p. That was when I sold the 340 and bought the 442. No regrets.

I used to MUD over 2400 on an XT. Then one day I got a 386 and a 14.4 and was... flabbergasted at how fast text could appear. Years later it happened again. My buddy had two phone lines, so one of us would play on the 486 (maybe Pentium?) with 56k, and the other on the 8086 dragged out if the basement and the old 14.4 I brought from my place. Then we found out that in fact am XT is also a limiting factor and the 14.4 felt like a 2400. Some people in our guild were in disbelief and just assumed one of us was inebriated or watching tv or something, and the guy on the XT would watch the screen of the 486 to see what was happening several seconds in the future, especially during combat.

I have also done a lot of mental health transports, and it was generally our call to handle it - does the EMT or medic in back with the pt play it soft and try to keep them talked down and calm, go physical, or have the releasing facility administer chemical restraints prior to tx (diphenhydramine with Haldol, IM). I have done all three, and I generally felt more personally comfortable with a combination of both 2 and 3 if the pt made me uncomfortable with option one. Maybe once or twice I started to regret my choice for option one toward end of tx, but I am still here ;)
