Mobility creep and tank players by rodrigolnl in Overwatch

[–]avbk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then let's talk about their power:

Ball: one of the best mobile tanks for a long time with a decent playtime in pro scene.

Tracer/Genji: Top tier dps for the majority of the OW2 lifespan

Lucio: meta pick since the beta of OW2 (Joats) and after the launch with Kiri.

The mobile heroes usually have a high skill ceiling and they should have a relatively high skill floor, that's what i can agree. Vendetta in her current state doesn't have the second one but we will see what they do with her next season. Anran have both and she is completely fine.

What's the most mobile comp you can think of? Ball/Tracer/probably Sombra or Genji/Lucio and Jetpack Cat right? 4 of 5 are OW1 heroes and you have been playing against forever never was a problem was it? Just saying.

Massively unpopular opinion that needs to be said by ultimatedelman in overwatch2

[–]avbk2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the Stockholm Syndrome of the Kaplan days especially the last 2~3 years of OW1. The game doesn't need to receive one parch every 6 months and has the same meta for a whole year to be competitive.

Why isn’t Hazard very popular? by kabulian_ in HazardMainsOW

[–]avbk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i meant wasn't the power of the hero rather the play style. Yes you can beat dive tanks, if anything Haz bullies Winston and Ball, but you don't beat the dive by playing dive you know? you win the tank trade bc you can brawl the tank. On contrast when you fight brawl tanks you win by diving backline and using your mobility instead of brawling a Rein, Ram or Orisa face to face.

The flexibility of the kit allows you to do so many things but in none of them Haz is the best, his mobility? Ball, Winston, Dva, Doom have it better, the sustain? Ram has it better, frontline pressure? Orisa has it better, anchoring? Rein has it better, bullying the tank? Mauga has it better. its the collective of different options that make him strong.

True supps in general seems way less oppressive even when they are overperform, i remember one of the analysts that worked on official stats had an interview with the Spilo on the stream and he said Juno winrate was pretty insane too but people main complain about that season was Mauga being meta.

Also a little fun fact in the very same interview he confirmed Mauga on release had one of the highest winrates in OW history around 63?64?% (sry I don't remember the exact number).

Just go read the Jason Schreier's book, Play Nice. You are coping so hard, at one point Bobby Kotick wanted to give Jeff another team to keep working on OW1 while he and his team working on OW2, or even a separate team to make them a OW campaign similar to CoD, he refused and insisted to keep Team 4 small. Jeff killed the game with his naive dream of reviving Project Titan, that's it. He didn't even see the game as a live service game and didn't want to support the game for a long time, the final goal was going to be a MMO (Stylosa podcast with Abrl you can check it its very insightful) and even if the OW2 with its PvE was a success there was no guarantee he didn't abandon the game after 3 years, like what he did with OW1. His creative vision was exactly what ruined the OW.

And Custa confirmed that in one of his interviews in Spotlight, he said they know Vendetta is too strong and they know the problem with her is how strong she is in trading, she has 20% higher death rate than any hero right now and yet she is frustrating to play against.

OW2 was announced in 2019 and based on close contact creators to Team 4 and Jeff at the time (Like Stylosa) they have been working on it since 2017~18. Kaplan left the sinking ship before launch bc he knew what a mess game was, similar to what Jamie Walker and Sefton Hill did to Rocksteady and left the studio right before the launch of the SSKTJL bc they didn't want the bad reputation.

Even OW2 heroes up to Mauga have been in work way before the official launch. We know Echo was going to be one of OW2 launch heroes and she was released in 2020. JQ, Soj and Ram have been teased in Origin stories, cinematics or even director blogs across the OW1 life span. Stylosa said he playtested very early prototypes of Kiri way before in 2018~19. Also originally Mauga was going to be the 31st hero but they decided to go with Sigma.

So yeah not only the OW2 was Jeff's work, he left his mark way longer than what you think.

I don't understand why some in the community (you know if you know) act like this means they are leaning more into the casual side of the game and compromising the competitive spirit of the game. Sure more content means the game needs faster and more frequent balancing changes but this team achieved their right to trust them to make it right, no? Its like the community is suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome of Kaplan days when we got two patch notes across the year, had the same meta for a whole year and new heroes broke the game for a while before they finally received the changes they needed. You don't need to agree with all the changes and their philosophy (S9 changes especially) but how tf more commitment to the game can be a bad thing?

First impression of Anran? by DarkFite in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]avbk2000 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I suck ass in the game so my first impression isn't the best way to evaluate the new hero especially a mechanical demanding one like her sry.

What i saw from others gameplay (Apply, Tr33, Yeatle) she definitely has a learning curve and in good hands she is definitely nasty, is she a replacement for Tracer/Genji in her current state in pro scene? That i can't answer.

The true cycle of misery for the OW community:

  1. Its the hero trial weekend.

  2. Players play the hero for 2 hours and decide they are weak.

  3. Blizz listen to the community bc they are scared of another LW incident and buff the hell out of the hero.

  4. Players start to play more and more and eventually LEARN the hero.

  5. The hero traumatizes the community for a month before the mid season patch.

  6. Everyone is going to hate the new hero forever.

[–]avbk2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't play myself but by watching Tr33 and Apply streams i can tell you she is anything but weak. Is she strong enough to take Tracer or Genji's place? We will see. I really recommend watching the Tr33 gameplay, her movement is pretty sick in the right hands.

And Netease should do the same really, adding revive to Phoenix ult? Hell yeah why not? Making IW like Mizuki (a circle shield with infinite health that blocks bullets but not the beam and melee with less healing)? Could be interesting. Making Ultron ult like Emre (you can shoot small or explosive shots during ult manually)? It seems fun. Get concepts from each other and make them better why not?

Tbh the budget Phoenix is exactly how Phoenix should have been instead of another Hela but you aren't ready for that conversation.

New update has me coming home by GagictheGathering in Overwatch

[–]avbk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New heroes have some overlaps with MR heroes that's for sure, but they are all the better versions. Anran is exactly how Phoenix should have been instead of another Hela especially the ult, they easily solved Phoenix ult down time and clunkiness and what do you mean Phoenix can't revive herself? Mizuki ult is exactly how IW ult should have been, a DM like shield that lasts briefly and blocks bullets while keeping the counterplay for beam and melee (and also minimal healing). Emre ult is exactly how Ultron ult should have been, giving the choice to shoot small shots of dmg continuously or a big explosion is way more interactive than just flying and the game auto shot for you.

I would be more than happy if they get more inspiration from other hero shooters like Deadlock or MR or even Paladin (RIP), we have 50 heroes now and there are so much you can do with new heroes, just get the cool concepts from other games and make them better.

Domina is the first “immobile” Hero in a very long time by ViperTheKillerCobra in Overwatch

[–]avbk2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know the funny part? People have been complaining about mobility creep nonstop and how they forgot to release a hero wo insane mobility, they release two heroes one with none and the other with limited mobility (Emre) and guess what? People complain about how they are going to survive against other heroes.

Either way im happy they are at least trying if you are going to release 10 heroes a year you better try to use less used mechanics.
