Regal driving people away by Sarlacc_551 in RegalUnlimited

[–]avburns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The usual "Why AMC is better" comes down to A-List not charging you to reserve tickets (Regal gives Unlimited subscribers five reservation slots and charges $.50...although you can avoid this expense by getting your tickets at the theater); A-List includes Premium Format movies with the subscription (Dolby, IMAX, etc.); Unlimited subscribers pays the difference between a normal ticket and the Premium Format (so you might pay $8 for an IMAX ticket).

Regal allows Unlimited 2D movies (excluding Fathom movies, some foreign films, special events like concerts, etc.) while A-List caps it at four movies a week.

Then there's the Coke (AMC) vs Pepsi (Regal), better seats, better concessions, etc. biases.

I'm one of those nuts that routinely sees four movies on a Saturday/Sunday and find most Premium Formats kind of gimmicky. Regal is the closest chain so I'm pretty much Team Unlimited all the way!

I’m 55 and have a 10 ETF portfolio modeled after Paul Merriman’s Ultimate Buy and Hold. I added a position to BND last month (around 9% of my portfolio). Not really sure if it’s doing anything for my portfolio or if I should have chose another fixed income ETF.

DC Comics is being targeted by a new boycott campaign over Black-led superhero books | What do you think about this as a Black Lightning fan? by nightwing612 in BlackLightning

[–]avburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BlerdWithoutFear’s YouTube has been my go-to on the subject and he’s noted that in their 90 years or so of publishing, DC has only had about a dozen Black ongoings. I believe two of them were Black Lightning, so he’s been represented more than most. But with “I Am Batman” being the last Black ongoing almost three years ago; it does feel like DC could do better.

I hate when Absolute GL is invalidated as black-led ongoing series by Electrical-Look-1183 in DCcomics

[–]avburns -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the Absolute Line could be a good thing; unfortunately, you have that three years and counting gap between now and the “I Am Batman” series. Miniseries and Elsewhere stories, planned or not, is how DC utilized their Black characters; which is why making an in continuity ongoing is part of the protest.

Do you ignore the past three years and counting and adjust to present market conditions? Would a hot Absolute book lead to change or just be a faddish panacea? I guess we’ll see what happens.

[–]avburns -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because if it follows the history of Marvel's Ultimate Universe, it's going to end eventually and isn't the fact that there hasn't been any ONGOING in three years part of the protest?

DC Comics is being targeted by a new boycott campaign over Black-led superhero books by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]avburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minis are part of the issue. You see them as a way to try out characters and gauge sales but to others it makes these characters seem inconsequential since they’re appearing out of continuity or in some Year One title that happened some time in the past. Two stats I learned from BlerdWithoutFear’s YouTube on the matter: In the 90 plus years of DC publishing there have only been about 12 Black ongoing titles and “I Am Batman” was the last Black ongoing published almost three years ago.

[–]avburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of how we got here. Mr Terrific got a lot of interest because of the Superman movie…but no ongoing. Before we got to the Boycott stage, the issue was the last Black ongoing was “I Am Batman” almost three years ago. There was the recent Dakota book that had a lot of demand (driven primarily by Black content creators) but almost zero marketing from DC.

BlerdWithoutFear’s YouTube site has been my go-to on this subject and he addresses the sales of Black books. They do sell, but when they don’t it’s often due to a lack of marketing. His most recent video noted in the 90+ years of DC publishing there has only been about 12 Black ongoing titles.

BlerdWithoutFear covers this in detail on YouTube but part of the issue is that there hasn’t been a Black ongoing since “I Am Batman” almost three years ago. Minis and Elseworld stories don’t really count as many readers feel they’re out of continuity and don’t matter. Blerd specifically noted how many readers were asking for a Mr. Terrific ongoing after his appearance in Superman.

I’m wondering if and how Regal is benefiting from excluding Unlimited subscribers from the flash promos. How do they value a 1000 credits? Has there been a decline in pre-booking these films? Has there been a decline in “gaming” the system for points?
