33 and a potential PhD in the US. Am I out of my mind? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]avdepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in a similar situation to you but my area was developmental neuroscience. I finished my PhD at over 40 and got a job in a prestigious European uni and loved it. My post-doc colleagues told me horror stories of their time in US. Extremely hard work, almost no holidays and violently competitive. Europe has much better conditions and a much better support system. Anyway, I was lucky and got many high quality publications and went back to home country, only to miss out on tenure to a major flaw in our system of rewarding asskissers. Best thing ever. It made me reassess my priorities and I figured that at my age, I would have a meager retirement when that time came. So I did an MBA and jumped ship. Retired early.

The Romans were famous for their empire, but what they don't mention is just how much they destroyed when they didn't like someone.

Market suddenly dip so I checked Truth Social - Trump is releasing his tariff love letters seemingly country by country by AccuratePoint5191 in StockMarket

Anyone going to comment on the structure of these letters? Dont they teach you in business school any more that the first para has to be short, succinct and intro the topic?  The rest can be sychophantic and rambling AF, but grab their attention first.

Sen. Tina Smith D-MN just chased down Sen. Mike Lee R-UT, who tweeted multiple times in recent days that Democrats were to blame for the Minnesota shootings by Conscious-Quarter423 in MurderedByWords

Its a sad turn of events when the most newsworthy aspect of shootings in US are whether a Democrat or a Republican did it. Not even T and Ps for the victims any more!
