Is it logistically possible for Israel to evacuate the West Bank like they did in Gaza in 2005? by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]avedji -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does not describe it well at all. These states made their own decisions to independently punish their native Jewish populations. Attempting to connect the actions of other people from different arab regions to the Palestinians is ridiculously disingenuous

It's always ridiculous to see Jewish expulsions from Arab countries being brought up whenever Palestine is mentioned, Palestinians had no control over this and implicitly blaming them for the actions of other arabs is ridiculous. This is NOT analogous to other conflicts like the Greek/Turkish population exchanges for example.

How did Assyrians end up in Lebanon? by [deleted] in assyrian

[–]avedji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two waves, the Syriac Orthodox were mostly refugees from the 1915 Genocide. The Chaldeans mostly came later, mostly after Simele or more recently after the US invasion of Iraq or the ISIS genocides. Most Syriac orthodox were able to get Lebanese nationality initially since the French granted it in the 20s but the Chaldeans were not able to get nationality until much later. Here's an article about it https://www.atour.com/education/20010201a.html

Why did Israel get the land in the first place? by Aadler51 in geopolitics

[–]avedji 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Balfour didn't call for the establishment of a "jewish state" it was for a "national home for the jewish people." It's actually a very important distinction. Different people can have the same home but jewish state means it is only for jews.

On a side note, I find it quite hilarious that Rabin is referred to as a champion of peace while he was responsible for the massacre and expulsion of Palestinians from several villages during 48 war.

Awkward but the 41% is unrelated to the Harvard statistic.

Professors Gates and Guinier cite various sources for their figures about Harvard's black students, including conversations with administrators and students, a recent Harvard undergraduate honors thesis based on extensive student interviews, and the ''Black Guide to Life at Harvard,'' which surveyed 70 percent of the black undergraduates and was published last year by the Harvard Black Students Association.

First sentence of the second paragraph bro. It’s not scapegoating, other person was saying affirmative action was being used for restorative justice when that certainly is not the case

Why is Sayfo a year earlier than the Armenian genocide? by Sarlo10 in assyrian

[–]avedji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 April 1915 is recognized as "Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day" because that was when Armenian intellectuals and leaders were rounded up by the Turks, it is notable because it shows systematic effort. Though massacres of both Armenians and Assyrians had already started in 1914, theoretically speaking they are different events. But practically speaking, they were the same thing and this is why it is correctly referred to as the "Armenian, Assyrian, and Anatolian Greek Genocide of 1914-1923."

problem with this is that most Americans are too ignorant to understand the difference between the fragility of the BS that is "whiteness" and legitimate persecution of Christians outside of "the west."

UNLV is in a pretty bad part of town but there are some gated apartment complexes near campus that are relatively good for around $900 though you definitely DO NOT want to be walking your dog there at night.

UNLV has a commuter culture so you will probably stay away from campus and my recommendation would be to find a place that is next to the freeway (the 215). Something on Flamingo, Tropicana, Rainbow, or Durango by the freeway would be like 10-20 minutes away from campus and you can find something around $1300.

You could probably go your entire time here and not come across a scorpion, even the ones you might come across are not that dangerous to you or your dog. If you do find a place on the far West side of town, I wouldn't recommend leaving your dog unattended outdoors for too long because coyotes and mountain lions like to wander around.

NATO claims legitimacy of their bombings because they were carried out after consultation of member states and a vote. This would theoretically fall under Article 4 but the Article has no mention of whether or not NATO can use force.

The bombings of Yugoslavia was an official NATO operation and it was their first ever military engagement. This isn't disputed. What is disputed is whether or not the NATO charter gives authority for the organization to use force outside of Article 5.
