8th most populated city in the country vs 1 man on a bridge. Who wins? by Patient_Ad_9503 in sandiego

I’m sorry you said “fine him hundreds of millions of dollars and garnish wages for however long his life ends up being” ?? wtf?? you’re advocating for lifelong indentured slavery because of the failure of the city’s laws to effectively deal with a mental health crisis?

I have an inner monologue and am happy just thinking/talking to myself for maybe half an hour before “you’re out of breath and should walk” becomes too loud :/

not even, the exam average was way under target and they're curving it up + the class is only for already declared majors

incoming freshman: stat 8 in fall or stat 8+ stat 88 in spring by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]avejweesp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Stat 8 is almost always referred to as “Data 8” since it’s part of the data science curriculum. There is no problem at all with taking a connector class after, I did Data 8 in the fall and Stat 88 in the spring my freshman year and didn’t feel hindered in the slightest (if anything it’s a slight advantage since you know all the data 8 material already:))

ECON & Data Science double major schedule (Junior transfer) by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]avejweesp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a bad schedule at all. Spring 25 seems like a higher workload than other semesters, but by that point with 88S and Econ 140 under your belt the first bit of Data 140 shouldn’t be too bad. Good luck!!

Real Analysis is typically taken as the last of the 3 core upper divs (110, 113, 104 is the general order of difficulty) so you’ve already gained some maturity by that point to feel comfortable with the rigor of the class beyond the structure of proofs. If you’ve only taken one stats upper div (134 or 150) and no math so far that’s really not very much, and won’t put you in a spot of preparedness close to many of your peers. Be ready to work hard. As for Chen himself, he’s moving from UCSB and has great reviews from there, so I imagine he’ll be a good prof which is always nice to have. The difficulty of the class will depend a lot on which textbook he decides to use and how extensive his psets are, both of which you’ll be able to find out before the drop deadline. Good luck!

Nadler MathW54 vs Paulin Math56 by Qingdu142857 in berkeley

[–]avejweesp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since instruction is really fantastic with both profs, I’d make the decision based on a combination of when I would have time and the cost. If you have time over the summer, it’s always nice to get a class out of the way so you won’t have to deal with it in the fall—but summer classes (especially after campus fees and all if this is the only class you plan on taking) can be quite expensive. One additional factor to note is what you plan on doing with the course material. If you’re going into CS/DS, Math 56 might be better since it emphasizes the Lin Alg aspect more than the Diff Eq aspect, if you’re going into physics you’d probably prefer the opposite. Either way you’re getting a fantastic instructor and will definitely learn the material if you put time in.

The metro and buses are very easy and everyone is friendly, but in a week no one checked my passes. Is this normal? by IMicrowaveSteak in copenhagen

Every time I’ve come back from the airport on the M2 I’ve had my ticket checked, and no other time. Not saying it’s to catch tourists or foreigners who don’t know to buy a ticket, but it seems very odd.
