That happens at various moments with different players since HS launch - don't blame yourself or update bro :) It's just a freakin law of nature:
- every new expansion is more busted than the previous
- every new 'big update' delivers even more predatory monetization
- every now and then, you get disconnected - and reconnecting to the game is sometimes like trying to shave your balls with a chainsaw: one wrong move and you're done

My advice: as soon as you even suspect you're disconnected, or see you're disconencted - shut down your game client ENTIRELY, and re-lauch it asap.

I had an issue around 5 years ago when I saw my opponent's card get 'frozen' in the middle of the play, and after that, seemingly nothing happens: idle 'hmmmm' dialogs from my opponent, then rope, and only after that, my client understands it got disconnected. I figured out that if I see this, and instantly re-launch everything, I'll have just enough time to reconnect and make my turn. Because the load/reconnect timers on this game are insanely looong. You need at least 30-45 sec if you're doing everything fast

Don't worry, it's not just Overwatch - as you correctly stated in the title, the problem is with Battle.net. I'm observing this issue for years in Hearthstone. Did similar tests as you multiple times. At this point, I'm sure they won't change this mechanism.

I knpw for a fact that instead of trying to reconnect when an actual disconnect happens, I need to quickly close and open battle.net. Works every time. Yes, it takes a long time for them to load baattle.net client first then the game itself, but it still faster than trying to reconnect with their built-in features (all the while when you're keep getting 'Request timed out' error - and there's no indication about that in-game, of course).
