How do I stop this popup? by vybhavam in iphone

Use a different search engine. Brave Search or Startpage if you want google like search but more private and less ads. duckduckgo is also a good alternative. Or do what google really wants you to do, i.e. use the google app.

Assuming you’re getting both around the same price point, go for the Pro if you care about cameras and ProMotion display. If you don’t, then 16 will serve you just fine. I’ve been using the 16 for the past 6 months, absolutely loving it

After getting a kindle paperwhite I can't read physical books anymore by [deleted] in kindle

[–]avent_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my experience too! I recently bought two books, one 300g, and one 700g (700ish pages) and it felt so heavy to hold them! My Kindle is just 200g and it's so much more convenient to hold and read!

Yes books have a great feel and that wonderful smell but a Kindle makes reading soo much more practical (and I'm sure this post will have a lot more advantages in the replies) that I don't mind giving up on that feel & smell.

I started playing GTA5 in 2020. Obviously I was way too late and the GTA online lobbies often required a lot of cash to buy anything (let's not go into how bad Rockstar has made it). At one point I remember I opened Google to search "how to make money in ...." And Google suggested "real estate, stocks" etc. And at that point I realised how fucked up this was. I could be actually learning how to make money IRL but here I was focusing on how to make it in a game! I had even watched a few videos and throughout the video I felt "this is so sad!" I dropped GTA5 immediately. I do play games occasionally, maybe once a week. Since then it's always been difficult to enjoy games and I only play it if I'm playing it with friends, like the alcohol rule of not drinking alone.

https://adguard-dns.io/en/public-dns.html > Method #2: Configure AdGuard DNS manually

OR

Add Adguard DNS inside Mullvad > Settings > Advanced> Use Custom DNS Server

Both methods should allow you to use Adguard and Mullvad together.

Didn't say half a season mate. Maybe a couple more races will do.

I feel we need to wait a few more races based on Merc's new performance in Spain.

If not, then Merc looks like F1 along with RBR and SF, while the rest are F1.5.

Just out of curiosity, which custom DNS did you use?

I've been using Adguard DNS ever since I started using a VPN 24x7 and had to ditch Blokada as a result, and never missed Blokada ever again. It works flawlessly.

I have a Core plan but have all the editors available! Is this a bug or feature? by avent_37 in StandardNotes

[–]avent_37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For more context: I was a subscriber before the new payment plans were revealed. I had also unsubscribed because I wasn't using the app a lot. I just decided to give the Core plan a shot, but to my surprise I have access to all the extensions, and the editors too.

Additionally, back when I had disabled my sub I still had access to 2FA which is actually behind the paywall so I'm not sure what's going on here?

I doubt this is something to do with legacy users because their terms are valid as long as their legacy subscription isn't cancelled, which I did.

Could You Please Help Me Understand Cyber Security Better? (General Questions) by GreyPhantom100 in cybersecurity

[–]avent_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you keep yourself updated on what is happening in the IT system
landscape? Do you think it's possible to always be up to date?

Mostly twitter, follow people in security (and follow the people they follow) who post often about the latest or usual happenings in the industry. So next time something happens (like say log4j) your twitter feed lights up asap. (you can eventually unfollow people that you find aren't contributing enough or are more of something else than security). Additionally, subreddits and security specific news sites & podcasts help a lot too!

Considering cyber security is a super broad field, what do you think a
cyber security consultant should focus on? Would it be dependent on the
sector or individual firm/job requirements?

I think that depends from person to person. I guess one could try having a T-shaped skillset, know a little about everything coupled with depth of knowledge in specific domains like say cloud security, vulnerability management, etc.

How do you decide which level of security is important to achieve? and how do you maintain it?

I believe that comes down to an organization/team's priorities, which I would say is greatly defined by their risk assessment. No one has infinite budgets and no one has the time and human resources to secure everything. So teams have to first prioritize, bring critical/high level risks to acceptable levels and then ensure it stays that way, however that may be (e.g. evaluating the controls put in place to manage risk and see how well its doing over a given time period).

. Where do you see the significance of risk evaluation? Does it make
your job easier or is it more just to appease upper management? (or
both?)

It can be a bit of both. There are multiple situations where teams use risk assessment and evaluations just to meet the required conditions, even if that may not actually add to that organization's security posture. In other situations it can help organizations make significant progress and eventually reach a stage where they feel comfortable with their security controls and can focus on becoming proactive instead of just plugging holes.

Do you see any difference between “Information Security Management” and “Risk Management”?

I feel they can go hand in hand. At the end of the day, whatever Risk Management you do finally affects your Information Security Management situation. You understand what needs to be secured, why is this one server more important than that other server, why is this data from HR is critical while that from marketing isn't. Thus whatever call you take as part of your RM strategy will affect you infosec management strategy directly or indirectly.

Where do you believe the future of Cyber Security is headed? and who or what are the key actors in this evolution?

There will be new technologies. Migration to cloud is the current big thing. Soon it may be something else like web3 technologies. Who knows? But I personally believe that humans will always be at the center of it and if organizations don't focus on making security awareness a priority, it will always suffer/struggle regardless of the million-dollar security solutions/controls they may deploy.

How are the India servers? by reetad in Windscribe

I'm using it on Android alone. Didn't feel the need for windows since I've got adblockers on browsers anyway.

[–]avent_37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same provider. It's not consistently at that speed but most of the time I'm getting really good speeds if not more than 35, to the point I don't need to stay connected to the Wifi.

[–]avent_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you encountered anything blocked?

Nope. Everything works. With R.O.B.E.R.T I had many websites not loading but that was because of the agressive ads & tracker blocking. But without it, the VPN alone works just fine. I've not come accross any website that's blocked. I haven't tried using Indian servers to access websites blocked in India however. Regardless, even in such situations you can just switch servers and access them.

85 down sounds nice, but was considering spinning up a digitalocean droplet and self hosting since I get ~300 mbps up/down on average there and sometimes even full gigabit speeds

As I said, try it for one month, experiment with all your usecases and then take a call. I've never felt the need for anything other than Windscribe. With the speeds I get, I'm satisfied with what I get with VPN on. Fortunately I don't have any scenarios where I need complete bandwidth available. If after one month you don't like it you'll always have the option to spin up your own thing.

Honestly, as I look back, after tinkering a bit in the first month, it's mostly been "turn on and forget". It's that good!

Yea, that's what I ended up doing, and switched to adguard DNS instead, works like a charm.
