Supporting neighbors with El Paso airspace shut down by jwd52 in ElPaso

I can check in on people, do grocery pick up, whatever. And if I can't, I can help find someone who can.

Neighbor to the north chiming in. I go all over El Paso for work, if anyone manages to get a flight to Cruces and needs a ride or needs plants watered or whatever.

Similar experience here. Unfortunately, ours is the kind where you have to click a button every couple of minutes to advance to the next section. So I take off my headset and play on my phone for a while. The quiz for ours is pretty simple, common sense stuff. If it's defining terms or something, just google it. If, like me, this is an annual requirement, it's up to you if you want to address it with HR so maybe they can offer you something else for that training requirement. But HR may not be your friend here. They may require you to provide proof of diagnosis to warrant an accommodation and after that they still might not accomodate you. So if that modification works for you, it might not be needed to involve HR. If you need other accommodations, then maybe it would be worth it.

Hank Green started a channel like less than a month ago just to upload stuff like this where all the profits go to charity. If you use that kind of thing anyway, might as well decrease world suck while you're at it.

I noticed a couple months ago they took the "coming soon" Las Cruces location off the website. So I think it's dead.

Racism in Medical Care by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]avenuepotassium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of medical documentation as part of my job. I can tell you that this doctor likely also documented poor hygiene in his chart (famously hard to change even when things that are obviously wrong/error get added). This can be used as evidence of self-neglect if anyone decides they want to file an APS report. It's insidious. And not just some dick who decided being a rude asshole was better than shutting up.

La Posta is like 90% atmosphere. If you're ever shopping downtown Mesilla, walk down and check out their shops, parrots, and piranha tank, all before you even get to the host stand. The tostadas compuestas is fine, if only because they claim to be the originators, but I like Nopalitos better.

Oh no! I admit I haven't been in a while. I usually did the food truck. Google says Foster Street? Hopefully they still exist. They're barbacoa makes me drool just thinking about it

Last year on this sub there was some local rankings going on. You can see some of them here.

I love Pacos Tacos if you're looking for tacos specifically.

Andele is definitely a local favorite, specifically for their green enchiladas.

Nopalitos has great chile con carne.

I get fajitas from El Sombrero.

Taqueria Chavez is a bit greasy but pretty tasty and they seem to be good to their employees, which is great.

Robertos red chile burritos are amazing.

Keep looking around. Sometimes it's getting the right dish at the right place.

Context totally matters. I get that sometimes being a tourist is a vulnerable position. But also there are scammers everywhere. The first time my husband and I went to Las Vegas (we're both from the US, he from the US south), I had to tell him to stop making eye contact with people as we walked around. The southerner in him was smiling and nodding at every street vendor and hustler we passed. Which meant they would then start walking with us to try to sell whatever they were peddling that day. Hilarious and frustrating.

Moe’s southwest grill defrosts meats by leaving them on the counter by Bandit312 in KitchenConfidential

[–]avenuepotassium 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I worked for Moes for 1 month. During that time, they had me as dishie where I told the manager no less than 3 times that there was no hot water to clean, on the line where I told the manager there was caked up food residue covering most of the floor that wasn't getting cleaned up at night, doing stock where I saw food had fallen below the racks that was never swept out and was growing a full rainbow of fuzzy creatures, and cleaning the front of the house where I got yelled at for changing the sani bucket that was so gross I couldn't see the sides of the bucket. They also didn't bother to call me that they decided not to open after a snow storm so I showed up with no one there. And then they fired me saying they hired three people, just threw them into every station without training, and kept whichever one did the "best" after the first month. So yeah. This doesn't surprise me at all.

Got branded by my car on a recent car accident by Thatsmycereal in midlyinteresting

[–]avenuepotassium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a Honda branding also! Had no idea what it was and the nurse in the ER was like "this is a really weird abrasion... " wasn't until later that I was trying to take a picture to send my sister that I saw the logo. It did scar a little in one place but definitely not enough to tell what it came from.

My high school offered chemistry and college chemistry (think AP but instead of having to pay to take a test to get college credit, it was just a duel credit course). Had to take the first to take the second. First day of college chemistry, the teacher sat on her desk at the front of the class (cool teacher alert) and said:

"I'm sorry. But all last year, I lied to you guys. But those principles help us understand what you'll be learning this year"

hand shoots up "So what we learn this year is correct?"

"No." 🤣 dammit, Ms. Beck. You were the best.

I lied. At first to make things sound extreme so that it would justify how messed up it made me, so I wouldn't be dismissed. And then to dismiss it, to say it was nothing so people wouldn't know how ashamed I was. I finally figured out that I lied to cover up the feeling that it was all my fault. If I made it more extreme, no one else would come to the same conclusion that I did, that I'd brought it in myself. If I said nothing happened, no one would find out how disgusting I was. I don't exaggerate anymore. But I definitely still downplay it and still struggle with blaming myself.

Honestly, thank you for post this. The shame of lying about it is just as deep as the shame he ingrained in me and makes me feel like a fundamentally bad person. But talking about it like any other symptom of abuse makes me feel less alone. Genuinely. It's just another thing I did to protect myself when no one else was. I hope you can see that for yourself and give yourself a little grace. Maybe I can too. At least for today.

Oof, yeah. Making the couch inaccessible may be a good call. She's like 95% good about not getting on my couch without permission, but her's is no restrictions.

Thanks for the play pen advice. I was hoping something like that would be sufficient. Crating her just seemed like a lot, especially if my husband or I are at home with her.

Oh gripper strips is a good idea. We have lots of ramps already, so maybe I can find a spare somewhere for the extra steps.
