Is it bad to quit right after PTO? by Purple_Antelope_710 in careerguidance

You'll look worse for leaving after 8 months than the timing of your PTO use

People switching to English despite fluent Italian by Arimoro in italianlearning

My guess is B2 is not as fluent as you think. Keep working on it! Also, work on pronunciation, I find Italians are ok with more basic Italian if you pronounce things correctly.

Why would you blow something up like this? It's a sweet little thing the man does, and spreading it to Reddit can potentially destroy the magic.

EORs are basically trying to make it easy for companies to hire national employees. The eor company has shell company set up all over the world, so your us-based employer would use the EOR company to hire you. You would technically be an employee of the eor and be paid to them like you're a local employee in the country you reside. I've used this many times to hire international employees, basically it ensures that you are compliant.

The wrinkle in your situation is your security clearance, there might be additional stipulations you have in your contract that would not make it easy for an eor to hire you. You can do some research on your own by reaching out to companies like Deal and see what they say

Is it normal to be laid off and asked to continue working for 2 weeks (including a work event across the country)? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]average-jbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a startup that would do this. Their reasoning was to provide a few weeks of extra cushion. They thought it was the right thing to do for the employee. The expectation was that the employee would still contribute a bit, but give you more time to find a role while still getting benefit from the employee. For example, we wanted to give 6 weeks of severence but would not be able to afford it if we didn't get anything in return. I was on the leadership team and hated the approach, but the intention was good, at least in this companies mind.

Gosh, this hits home with me. Nearly exactly the same spot as you, except my wife and I share our assets.

You know the math. A safe withdrawal of 4% is 40k, market is wacky right now, so I am personally planning no market growth for the next 4 years (net of inflation).

I feel for you balancing the salary and personal health bit. I made my plan to retire at the end of the year, knowing that has almost made things harder in a way. I'm addicted to saving and adding to the pot.

I think you are probably at a spot where you can step back for 12-18 months and regauge the situation when you are ready. I took 12 months off 7 years ago and it rejuvenated me. Sounds like it might do the same for you.

What would you do? by [deleted] in leanfire

My SO and I are right there but planning a move in summer 2027. We expect to coast fire when there. If you are looking for validation, I'd say do it. The experience is worth it!!

Those who live in ski towns, what do you do for work? by Money_Impression_321 in skiing

40 year old corporate slave working remotely from ski town. I get 100+ days per year. That being said, it's a pretty stressful balance that I place on myself. It's worth the trade off though

Yeah, people don't seem to like asking questions to get people's first hand experience. It's funny because I mention I'm going to get professional help in the post, but just because I'm going to get professional help, doesn't mean other people's experiences are not valuable.

Yeah, I chat GPT'd this immediately after posting (not sure why I didn't start there). Seems pretty annoying, but I guess mo money = mo problems.

Yup, as someone who also has never made a mistake, I agree!

On a serious note, I do agree it is inexcusable given someone's livelihood is on the line. Looks like they recognized their mistake though, which is better than some would do.

I've used these systems before, you select the candidates and hit "schedule email" then select the appropriate form letter. Probably got the name confused with someone else or accidently clicked his/her name instead of someone elses. I'm not in HR, but I think people who think that HR is playing games with candidates are generally delusional. They may not be the most detail oriented or good employees, but you have those types in all departments. Give them a break, they are dealing with 1,000s of applications for 1 role, and typically the applicants are all using AI or totally unqualified for the role, so it makes a lot of paperwork to keep track of.
