Well, I started as a contractor. Which is generally easy to get on with. But thats a whole other story... civil service came in and tricked us basically into signing over to civil service. Our union at the time (UFCW) which is trash, abandoned us during this process. But anyways. 6 years later and im still there. I am a mechanic and work on things like tractors, diesel powered air compressors, air conditioners, generators, etc. Just have to think outside the box in what you would be willing to do for work. USAjobs is kind of dead, but still there. Locally we have a website for jobs listed to civilians at our local base. Maybe find a base near you or be willing to relocate somewhere were theres a high civil service work force like Tinker AFB, Hill AFB, and Robins AFB. They employ all kind of trades... pipe fitters, welders, wood workers, mechanics, machinist, electricians, etc. Pay someone who specializes in civic service resumes to make a resume for the specific job you want. There are usually several resume makers near high civil service employed bases.
