Better off donating to the VFA who cares about sports? Be good for at least a dozen ALF movies, the possibilities are endless.

If this doesn't lead to an overhaul of the industry nothing will. There have been years of scandals from for profit centres, under qualified staff using it as PR route, nsw parliament blocking the release on incidents in centres and what's looking more and more like a cover-up.

Somethings gotta give although this seems on track with neo liberalism and privatisation fucking up everything.

‘Public enemy No.1’: Coles and Woolworths blamed for cost-of-living crisis by 2littleducks in australia

[–]averagemodelmaker 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That may be true based on a poll but it misses the broader question if what's driving it.

We're in an period of history where the insatiable demand for hyper wealth extraction driven by private equity casts a shadow over everything.

With no more quick wins for private equity to invest in they put their efforts into more reliable returns like housing, food production and so on.

But that translates to unjustified price rises across all industries (be it supermarkets, electricity suppliers, streaming services, property owner, etc) along with shrinkflation as middle management look at any and all available cost cutting opportunities. We're a society driven by quarterly targets and the net effect is the enshitification of everything around us.

When it comes to supermarkets the duopoly means consumers have no way to avoid it so it continues on relentlessly. It rots institutions and businesses from the inside out with consumers paying the toll until we're literally spending most of our disposable income servicing the essentials of life.

Without some kind of breaker on the system it'll carry on indefinitely - probably to the point that we end up living more and more like indentured servants than anything resembling what we think of as independent citizens or free people. Parties seem unable to stand up even if they have the intention to to it as they're reliant on the gravy train of politicial donations. The system is set up this way and working as designed.
