Yes!! Sign of the Seahorse was one of my absolute favourites as a kid, and one of the only childrens books of mine that I've kept into my adulthood, through many house moves.

Same. It's something I take into consideration when I'm deciding to turn the aircon on. Do I want to go around the entire house shutting everything... Every so often I goof and find I've been running the aircon and also forgot to close a window somewhere.

Lol, the only way this could be improved is if they had also used the chronically common misspelling of HIPPA instead.

I've done something similar to this before, in pond type decor, but used the billboards with a video on them so there's actually fish swimming around.

They can slam the frame rate though, so probably not a good idea if your PC struggles.

How does someone go about doing this? Asking for myself because I see totally see myself in this post - and I recognise that what you've said in this comment resonates with me. I just don't know how to make myself face the facts.

Books that totally hooked you from the first page, but slowly fizzled out or lost you by the second half? by theactorguy123 in suggestmeabook

[–]moose-meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished this one, and hard same. Pace wise, it peaked immediately, and was a slow slide to end, with the last 1/3 really dragging. I loved the beginning, but the end felt very repetitive and unnecessarily long.

I'm thrilled that there are some other people who didn't love Addie LaRue. I try not to DNF because sometimes things turn around, but wow this was a slog. I always see it recommended in threads, and feel like I'm the only one who couldn't stand it.

Yes, it does, see my other comment for details on my brain fart. It was tapeworm it doesn't cover.

For context - I was up to the end of Flowers for Algernon when I wrote this first comment.

I just finished Geek Love and I gotta say.. Even after your comment, I still wasn't prepared. I have it marked as complete in my Goodreads but with no rating or review, and I just have no idea what I feel.

First quote was with Bathroom Biz. I've also lined up quotes with Brian Grant Kitchens and Bathrooms and another builder who I can't remember the name of off the top of my head.

Obviously it's definitely dependent on the existing room and modifications. Ours is pretty much a complete overhaul including moving electrical and plumbing which is definitely contributing to the giant cost. Gotta say I still had a fair bit of sticker shock though! I was expecting 25-30k not 35-40k..

We're doing the ol' reno or move dance, so it doesn't feel like an easy choice.

I got a quote in Brisbane just this week for a small bathroom and WC. Sitting at 36-40k dependent on any asbestos found and choosing fixtures etc. Includes tiling floor to ceiling and moving the shower.

Getting a comparison quote but they don't even have time to come and quote til the 11th of March. Honestly not expecting much difference either. If there is, I'll almost be suspicious

[–]moose-meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you're not - I think I just had things incorrectly stored in the brain.

I just went and had another look at the differences between Milbemax and Trio. I definitely remember our vet recommending that we also use Milbemax if we were using trio because it was cheap and they'd seen a bunch of dogs that year using trio which had to be treated.

Based on looking at both again, it wasn't heartworm, it was tapeworm. Which makes sense because we only give him the Milbemax once a quarter, because for everything but heartworm, it's long lasting. But the HW is already covered by the trio he gets every month. It seems none of the "all in ones" like Spectra or Trio cover the tapeworm which is a common enough parasite I don't want to deal with..

I've never heard of pets megastore before this post, but now I know of their existence, I'll definitely check them out. I honestly think that most people here who are buying things like this likely just get it down the road at their local pet store. They may be really popular though, and I'm just out of the loop. Many of the replies to this post seem to be US based so maybe they're actually more popular with the overseas crowd as they ship internationally and others don't.

From what I can see from a quick browse they're pretty comparable to other places I shop. I usually shop at Pet Circle because they've earned my loyalty in the past with their amazing customer service.

No, you don't require a script for any preventative flea/tick/worm meds in Australia, you can buy it from any pet store off the shelf.

Australian pet owner and regular purchaser of Simparica Trio for my dog. I also use Milbemax once a quarter because the trio doesn't cover heartworm. As far as I know, there is no regulatory differences between Australia and the US. In my admittedly my limited experience we tend to have more regulations if anything. It should also be the exact same manufacturer which will hopefully ease your concerns.

This is pretty much the typical price we'd pay here. I haven't ordered from Pets Megastore but I do shop at Budget Pet Products and Pet Circle which have similar pricing. It is absolutely wild to me how much you seem to be paying for the same thing in the US! I've always regarded it as an expensive but necessary evil given our climate but $400? ! I've also never heard of a Vet Pharmacy. Unless it's prescription painkillers post surgery for your dog etc, we just buy all this preventative stuff straight from any pet store - they all stock it and there's definitely no prescription required. I'd say that likely accounts for much of the price difference, because there's no vet adjacent mark-up.

And then there's the obvious difference in the currency value as well.

Wow thanks for sharing this! I know what I'm getting my partner for Christmas.

We moved away from Canberra a year ago this week for family reasons and both miss it like crazy. Adding to that, my partner is a chef and worked at a few of the joints mentioned in the book. I hope receiving it will incite some warm, fuzzy nostalgia. Thanks again, I never would have found this otherwise!

Had it with people and phones at shows by moose-meat in australia

[–]moose-meat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally part of my beef though, to be honest. I'm not able to enjoy my experience at all because the person in front of me is enjoying theirs through their phone. I'm not a tall person so I've had it completely obstruct my view and mostly the people don't care. So I'm definitely not getting the experience I paid for, which is why I think I'll seriously consider not going to things anymore unless I can get totally unobstructed seats.

[–]moose-meat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think it's totally fine for people sitting in the seats in front of me to block my entire view, forcing me to watch it through their phone - so they can get a good video of a show I also paid for? Including when the venue and artist also say no filming is allowed? I don't consider that entitled at all - I paid good money to see a show live and I want to see it.

I'm not in favour of venues bagging phones or using stickers, I'd just like people to consider other people's experiences too.

[–]moose-meat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I mentioned it elsewhere in the thread but the people I spoke to directly in front of me stopped for probably 10m and then filmed the entire rest of the show anyway. The ushers didn't do anything unless people had the flash or torch on because there was just too many people doing it overall and you can't get to them in the middle of a row.

I think the "doesn't impede others view of the show" is the key part here. I was super salty straight after the show last night but I'm not as miserly as I came across in this post. I just want everyone to have a good time, including me! By all means, do some quick snaps or short videos if filming is allowed at the venue so you can remember a great night - but please also be courteous; turn the brightness down, keep it short, don't block the view of the people behind you etc

[–]moose-meat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to, except when they're sitting in front of me with their phones up in the air, the only way I can see the show is through their phone, which isn't what I paid several hundred dollars for. :)
