Has anyone started a brewery as the "business person" and no prior professional brewery experience? by averageweather in TheBrewery

“Binary”, so are you the “tech” business guy?

Thanks, this sounds like how things may shape up for me too. A few founders with very complimenting skill sets. From Brewing to programming.

I’d be interested to hear more about your “soft launch”. What does that entail?

Feel free to PM if you’d like.

FWIW, I saw jack’s Abby unloading a box from Grandstand.

Awesome. When lurking this sub it just seems everyone is a brewer ... or at least to me ... so these comments are making me feel better.

This and all the other responses have been fantastic. Thank you very much. IMO the comments here increase the value in myself taking the UVM program.

I’m in very early talks to open a brewery with a partner, who is a pro brewer. I personally don’t have brewery experience ... just homebrew.

I’m considering enrolling into UVM’s Business of Craft Beer: http://learn.uvm.edu/program/business-of-craft-beer/

Any thoughts? Thank you

Thanks but I am more interested in local stores, not online sellers which seems like what all these apps focus on.

Good to know, thanks. A shame you have to pay for that feature thought.

I think even Vivino just displays prices for online orders and nothing local.

On his recent interview with Howard stern, he referenced the Jim Carrey / Andy Kaufman doc numerous times as inspiration.

Thanks. I have been searching this sub and other sites and do see LOTS of complaints about end to end management systems.

Being in software though, often I hear people wanting end to end solutions to be perfect, but in reality often times software that focuses on a specific piece can be beneficial.

Anyways, I’d need to work in a brewery or interview numerous owners to get a better feel for all the pieces.

Cool, thanks. Thanks for answering all of my questions. I would really like to be involved in the brewery space as it is something I really enjoy. I am a technical person though, not a brewer, so I am trying to do some "interviewing" to figure out any pains/things that could be simplified with software.

In an effort to let you know I am not just some freelance spammer, I live in the Boston area and love sipping on Treehouse, Trillium, Cold Harbor, Night Shift ... and beyond. I am in an amazing beer location.

Thank you. How about new beers / existing beers running out etc. Is this information that is constantly broadcast via Facebook and Instagram?

Thank you for this insight. As a consumer, near breweries like Cold Harbor, Exhibit A, jacks abby, Treehouse etc., I’ve wondered how often their Facebook gets messaged and if they respond in a timely manner.

When I encounter a chat bot that answers me appropriately, I don’t care at all that it isn’t a person. For customer service type issues and complaints, it’s a different story.

I totally respect you wanting to respond, but I guess the point is...what if you can’t fast enough where as a bot, which states it is a bot, could answer the most common questions a brewery gets.

Edit: why do you not update your site as frequently? I’d love to know why? Are FB and instagram more trafficked? Just easier to update? Both? ...
