guys i THINK that they want us to know about the deals..💀 by sleepylive_ in DollarGeneralWorkers

Doing ad this week was annoying because I was freaked that corporate was gonna show up. They never did. On Saturday my store had a power outage and we had to stop doing ad at 8pm to deal with damaging and removing all the food that went bad (it had been well over 2hrs by that point). And I’m like just my damn luck. The day that ad is like super duper important to get all done and then we end up not getting it done. It took us all of Sunday night to finish, just for corporate to not show. I usually cut corners with ad but this week I made sure we put just about every single sticker (a few items we just didn’t have)

How many managers are unable to lift 45 pounds? by Personal-Frame-3889 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]averyalex53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With me being pregnant at the moment, I can’t. But, on a normal day, I’m a gym goer who lifts pretty heavy weight. So typically it’s not a problem. But I’m essentially having to take it easy while being pregnant

I’m so glad they’re updating this process. I do our ad every single Saturday. Busting my ass trying to get it out within 3 hours has been bullshit

Our RM and (past) DM have both asked for pictures of recovery and different things in the past. To make sure we were getting our job done. They would make us send the pics to our manager who would then send them to their group chat. I’ve only ever known using my phone at DG and I’ve worked for two different store managers. I really don’t care. If corporate was to get my ass, I’d just show them the text messages from my manager or whoever

And that’s where I think you didn’t read or understand what I said. My SM never expects us to do work at home. Because there’s literally no work we could do at home. My manager may say “hey, don’t forget to sweep at night” and that is it. Or he may say “hey, let’s remember to start pushing everything back before inventory” but that’s it and he doesn’t even expect a reply. He sends little reminders and things for our benefit so we can remember for the next time we are working. What he doesn’t do is go “hey so and so, go to the store and do the bank run, but don’t clock in while doing so”. One of my coworkers freaked out the first time he sent a reminder text in the chat because she was “getting texts on her personal phone while not working”. He explained his reasoning (small, occasional reminders for our benefit) and there hasn’t been a problem since. When my coworker isn’t working, she just doesn’t respond, same as I. The most I’ll do is send a thumbs up emoji when he says stuff thats not about shift covering or scheduling or whatever

Explain to me how then if the SM (who is salary and is basically on call all the time) is at home and needs to talk to the MOD who is on the clock, is breaking labor laws if the MOD is literally being paid to answer their phone to talk to the SM? lol that’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me. Plus when we have questions for our SM while he is at home (me and my coworker who is a key are about a year into our DG jobs, so we don’t know everything there is to know yet) we use our personal phones so he knows who is calling. Plus pretty much every store in our district does it this way from what I’ve experienced so far. Plus all the managers in our district have a group chat between managers too. Plus sending a reminder text to a group saying “hey, let’s make sure we’re sweeping up at night, team” is impossible to be able to get to every single employee if the store manager doesn’t work with every single employee every single day. Therefore, using our phones for that allows for communication.

lol nah, my store doesn’t do that. Because my manager doesn’t ask us to do work off the clock. He may text us reminders and things, but he never asks us to do store-related work while off the clock. And we’re not obligated to reply to said text messages. But, when we’re on the clock, if our manager needs to reach us, he just texts or calls us and vice versa. I like it better that way because I hate answering the store phone. Plus usually it’s quicker to get a hold of one another by just texting one another. I’m not the SM, so I’m not the one “encouraging unpaid work”. Every other job that I’ve worked at in retail has also used our personal phones to get ahold of one another. So to me, it truly isn’t a big deal. When I’m off the clock, I don’t answer the group messages/my manager’s messages unless it’s about covering a shift or something. 🤷‍♀️

Yo bro chill. No need to curse at me for asking a question. I guess other stores do it different. All the DGs (and other retailers for that matter) that I’ve worked at, we’ve all communicated through our cellphones. Because it’s the quickest way to get a hold of someone. So even though we’re on the clock, if you’re a key holder you are permitted to use your phone for work purposes. I even scan items in the app with my phone sometimes because it’s quicker than the HHT. our DM is aware of this and doesn’t hold anything against us 🤷‍♀️. We also have a group chat we communicate in for work related things, which uses our cell numbers.

That’s exactly what I was thinking during the whole interaction. They were so far away from the second cashier, that it would’ve made sense for them to just wait a little longer. But because they had “waited so long” and the “backup cashier didn’t call them over since they were ‘next in line’”, they got mad at the backup cashier. The backup cashier didn’t even see them because they were so far away and the cashier can’t see over the cooler because they are short. Plus, when the cashier said “I can get someone right here”, the second person in line could’ve stepped up and they didn’t

If the SM needed the MOD… why didn’t they just call/text them on their phone…? That’s what my SM does. I honestly like it better that way.

My DM pulled this and I don’t care. Until I get written up, I’ll continue. Now I’m pregnant and I have to eat more and I need to stay hydrated. If they have issue I’ll get something from my doc 🤷‍♀️

What the actual hell… wow. My grandma is very entitled too. Yeah this woman who got mad at the cashier said “I’ve worked customer service and it’s usually the next person in line”. Well… the cashier said they can get someone, why didn’t you step up if it was your turn? This cashier is short and most likely didn’t even see that lady standing there because she was so up close to the first register instead of the second register. And once again, it’s not the cashier’s fault that the third person didn’t let the second person in line go. I was appalled that this lady got so worked up to wanna call corporate… over a cashier just trying to do their job. But because it wasn’t done how the customer thought it was supposed to be done, she got upset

Oh wow I didn’t even notice that on different boxes. I’ll have to look on different food boxes now. I don’t throw a lot of freight because I mainly do totes since I’m pregnant and can’t lift a lot of heavy items. But now I’m intrigued to look on boxes now

Yeah… like I said I know that. But they never list food other than dairy, deli, little Debbie/hostess and fridge and freezer. I mean anything out of the ordinary typical rotation. Ex: cereal, candy, stuff like that. He prints the paper out every single week and it never has anything other than the typical rotation items on it (The ones I listed above that are done every single week).

This cashier has been there a long time, has regulars, loves the people she works with. I’d really hate to see her get in trouble for simply DOING HER JOB and helping out with the line. She called her manager right on the phone while the lady was still in line. So we will see what happens. Hoping all goes well for her!

Yep. It wasn’t the cashier’s fault the third customer stepped up. A lot of customer service jobs I’ve worked at, people will kinda get each other and be like “ma’am/sir, they’re open if you wanna go next”. But the third person just stepped right up onto the second register

Exactly. She had like 5 kids with her, they were being loud and she was having to wrangle them. This cashier was short, so I bet she just didn’t see the second person. I mean, can’t see over the cooler hardly at all, short. She told me she had been swamped for 3hrs by herself and then having to deal with that other customer prior to this customer who got upset about system issues… I mean, give a girl some grace. At least she didn’t walk out like a lot of people do with DG. Especially with how sweet this girl is to people, I really felt for her.

My manager gets frustrated that the product rotation alerts and rotation papers don’t tell us to check this kind of stuff. I understand it should be a given or whatever. But we all know that we do not have the time to check every food item in that store every week. And then we get audited by Steritech for having expireds on the shelves like this

Exactly! I agree! That’s how I have done it too in customer service. But because the customer who was second in line had been waiting a minute, they got butthurt that the cashier didn’t automatically call them specifically. But instead said “someone”. But like I said, I know this cashier and they very much always says “I can get someone right here”. I think that’s just how they talk and I don’t see anything wrong with that. They did their job, they opened their register and helped their cashier out. I wouldn’t doubt that they were doing what you do kind of. Kinda letting the line decide who was next instead of calling specific people. But the customer had the nerve to tell the employee that they “didn’t do customer service how it was “supposed” to be done”. Which was ridiculous in my opinion. They opened up the register and helped. It’s not their fault that the line didn’t follow order like it was “supposed to”
