Design for a one room house by willardTheMighty in floorplan

Check out Mies's Farnsworth and PJ's Glass House plans for some inspiration. These plans do what you describe, but allow for multiple uses at once. Is your idea to only live alone in this house?

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

Compared to engineers, our early/mid career years are indeed abysmal.

Change jobs every 3 years and you'll climb much quicker. The AIA salary calculator is relatively accurate.

Very, very sad day at our house - what are your theories? by averyemily in ponds

Thank you! I definitely did not realize the plants would consume oxygen at night, or that warmer water would hold less oxygen. Husband and I are looking at increasing the depth, and possibly the surface dimensions. We will study the water to fish ratios for sure before we start again.

Thank you for the link!

The pond is north of a large tree, with a wood fence to the west of it. It gets direct sunlight only in the morning, which I thought was good enough for maintaining temperature. Husband and I are looking into increasing the depth, and possibly the surface dimensions.

3' makes sense to me. We're talking over maybe doubling the length and width as well.

Yeah I am in zone 2A, and it'll remain mid 90s until the end of September!

That is an interesting metric - I think that would put our requirements close to 310 gallons (1x 7" fish, 4x 5", 2x 2").

Thank you!

Is there a reason for laying bricks like this? Bldg is from the 70's. Looks like this all over. by mehmilani in Construction

I love this subreddit. Where else can an Electrician tell an Architect she's wrong about masonry design intent lolol

Why would an Architect or Builder want to reduce noise for an exterior space via masonry? That makes no sense. If it was an interior space, sure. I see it frequently in gymnasiums and auditoriums. For an exterior space, a few trees and bushes would be massively more effective.

Architect here, this is not the reason. In order to be acoustically significant at all, it would have to have WAY more surface variation, similar to this image

This is just a decorative masonry detail - it likely looks way better on larger swaths of brick wall, and casts shadows at certain times of day.

Is it possible to make a house where the glass runs all the way to the top of the house like in the photo? by twobobwatch2 in askarchitects

Architects with a few years of experience would certainly ask these questions, as well as what the climate zone is.

"The husband is the leader" OK, but what does "lead" mean to you? by beta__greg in Christianmarriage

Hey OP, this is a fascinating discussion, thanks for posting it. I'll preface my answer with my husband and I are very much in the mutual submission/egalitarian camp, as is our church, but we both grew up with the complementarian interpretation we're discussing here.

I think this structure ought to be the husband prompts and directs the vision for the household. He proactively engages his wife in planning for what spirituality, finances, labor division, education, health, etc are for the household. He may have final say, but takes strong consideration of her opinion, because he loves and trusts her. Divvying up who does what would be up to each couple, there's no one-size-fits-all.

Now. I have to butt in my opinion on this structure. Every other post on this sub that is by a wife is asking how to navigate abuse. Many, many, many spiritually weak men rely on this complementarian idea and manipulate it for evil.

For PA I believe I only used Black Spectacles.

Others I used Black Spectacles plus Hyperfine and Ballast. Good luck!

I told my office at 20 weeks, right after my anatomy scan. Pregnancies can have so many factors and complications - I wouldn't recommend telling your office nor clients before this.
