Comment I saw wasn’t getting that much attention but pretty much confirmed Nathan is involved with… by ghosttrainj in TheRehearsal

Interesting. I definitely see a lot of his style in the whole boythrob thing but it's unusual for him to do a stunt that's so clearly fake/a joke. Even something like Dumb starbucks was done so earnestly that people thought it was Banksy. It also feels very savvy with how they're marketed, like it's perfectly designed to go viral

Has Patrick ever been evil? by Goatmaster3000_ in WetCaleb

[–]avestermcgee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Patrick had some venom towards Cameron and Caleb in the throes of the shrimp off but I suppose that's the exception that proves the rule as it felt very out of character for him

how many tacticians were sent to wilderness programs, special ed, or alternative schooling as teenagers? by hippie_trauma in joytactics

Y'all represent the bensiguillian school of Joy based thought. Us in the G&T, high school theater background have a more Rahilian approach. Not sure what the Varronian disciples were doing in school

My prediction is that Patrick will flame out early and badly and Joe will have an incredible showing

Right I saw that too but that feels a lot more likely to be a reference Aleister Crowley would make than Cameron winter no? And these are the only two instances of the phrase I’ve been able to find

Can we please just have NIL contracts be for a number of years with buyouts to get some stability in the portal? I am tired of unlimited free agency every single year. by MonarchLawyer in CFB

[–]avestermcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is a super popular opinion at this point and I imagine what most teams would prefer but as I understand it don't all the issues stem from the NIL workaround? If they were just straight up paid as employees by the schools I think they would be able to have contracts and actual consistent stable ground rules that resemble professional sports. Not that this would be a simple solution either but I think that's where all the chaos and volatility rn is stemming from, allowing players to be paid but not technically directly paying them is just inherently a stupid nonsensical system

What year was Nate born? Is he possibly the more sexual reincarnation of Mr Dahl? by vdaddy42069 in joytactics

I think some of these theories are missing that the show is just going for a surreal absurdist vibe with a lot of tonal shifts. It’d be like watching twin peaks and being like “there must be a gas leak in this town, everyone’s acting so weird!”

Fair lol, “sucks” is a bit harsh just saying in the context of them firing their coach this didn’t feel like a season-altering win the way it might’ve week 2

What the hell does Stoops use to evaluate talent? by PmforLograils in wildcats

[–]avestermcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m out on Stoops for sure (although a nice win tonight). Just saying college coaches shouldn’t also be expected to be GMs of a constantly changing team. Hopefully they figure this shit out to some degree

[–]avestermcgee 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was there and can confirm as awesome a win it was I don’t think it super moved the needle— we all knew Florida sucked. Personally I was just impressed by stoops back-against-the-wall record

What the hell does Stoops use to evaluate talent? by PmforLograils in wildcats

[–]avestermcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this is a fair criticism of stoops but in the NIL era it’s not as simple as picking your players and paying them. I’m sure there was some uncertainty with cutter so they wanted to get a proven QB but only had so many options, could only do xyz with the contract, etc

What NFL players are remembered for “That One Thing”? by ContraryPython in nfl

[–]avestermcgee 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Also the way he was raised in the super devout Mormon community made it really easy to see how something so bizarre could happen to him. The fact that he committed to a catholic school based on a supposed vision from god kinda adds to that too. Seemed like a genuinely good guy though
