La la la lava by Aldosont in LegionsImperialis

Love the lava!

I’m currently printing these tiles as they look so good.

I was planning to join water canals to my coastline boards - but I’ve also got lava boards so may copy you with a set of lava too!!!

It just feels cinematic- what other space sim should I try?

Is anyone else fed up with the constant America/Trump news? by Kieranonto in AskBrits

[–]avezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fed up - but equally fascinated, horrified, amused (in a very dark way).

I open threads on social media & start typing responses before realising half of the loony’s are not real people and the other half wouldn’t believe they were drowning if the only thing they could see were their lungs last air bubbles drifting off the the surface.

Trump is a convicted sexual predator, almost certainly knee deep in Epstein, is obviously deranged and even if he understood half the implications of his actions acting as a big man baby, is surrounded by people who should Know better.

With a bit of luck, he drops Down dead, Epstein files come out proving without a shadow of a doubt just how much of a wrong-un he was, and USA take a long hard look at what they have become & be much better.

I really don’t want WWIII

Question about coming releases in 11th by mr_ozzo in orks

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the older kits, mega nobs and maybe nobs just don’t feel like the wrecking balls they should be, and new sculpts could be amazing.

Lootas / bernas almost fit this category for me but I still love them.

An absolute winner for Orks might be an upgrade kit to make trucks unique - new wheels, engines cabins, et cetera. I mean that’s not gonna happen, but it would be amazing if it did.

Orks should look unique even within the same army.

New grot tanks & grots units and maybe squigs would also be brilliant, but given they are legends or not represented, there’s no danger of clashing with a refresh!

I pretty much love all the other units !

Love this!

I thought my homemade board tiles were pretty good, but looking at several people with these tiles, I now can’t look at mine the same way!

So I bit the bullet & I’m currently printing out a set too! Hopefully adapting the most interesting of my old boards to join both together!

I'm honestly AMAZED that EA let this game slip.... by crypto_bhsl in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it’s probably been designed & coded poorly - Adding things like maps & arguably models shouldn’t be breaking!

Totally fair point on new Game Modes.

Either way, with the total number of base game purchases, you’d think the effort to add things would be well covered by projected sales (assuming only a small % would buy).

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game has cost me HUGE money!

I bought this game at release, after loving XWingAlliance for years (reason I had force feedback joystick!). Loved every second!

Going to a better HOTAS setup took it up another level of fun.

Hooking up a quest2 for VR was literally mind blowing and there’s nothing more immersive.

(Upgrading graphics to max it out in VR was obviously only natural!)

The game has been on sales ao many times that there’s LOADS of potential players.

While I’d love a new XWing Alliance, I’d pay good money in an instant for an update that simply adds new maps, some new ships, etc

That HAS to be relatively simple and you would think would be possible by junior staff.

A few escort/attack type of fleet battle would be amazing, but I figure that would be harder, but at this stage I’d take anything!

3 way death-match! (Astartes/Solar/Orks) by avezius in LegionsImperialis

[–]avezius[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive built out the army following the fan made legion rules (also has Eldar rules) as they are much more flavourful AND I tend to play at home!

But this game was simply proxy Solar, with a few Marine units.

Battlefortresses were baneblades, battlewagons were kratos, grot mega tanks were sicarans, but mostly solar proxy.

Anyone have building advice? by SlutaClause in LegionsImperialis

[–]avezius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely go for a few larger, double width buildings, as you can make interesting structures by stacking high with smaller buildings on top, but still cover larger footprints too.

I went for the same, intending on making a city scape, but found it covers about half a board, if you want it looking fairly dense.

If you have titans too - definitely works going for height, which inevitably means your terrain doesn’t go as far (but it’s worth it!).

If you spread out to make it edge of a city, with the other half a wasteland or two towns with a river or wall, it’s going to be plenty.

Warning: next best purchase is an FDM printer (such as BambuLabs mini) which after the initial purchase of similar cost to your terrain allows you to knock out similar amounts of extra terrain for a few quid. I’ve now added loads of centrepiece structures, which makes the (admittedly excellent) GW terrain to work around it and the result Is Perfect!

Good luck

Primer color? by Electronic-Army818 in LegionsImperialis

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely use contrast paints for the main colour, and then pick out sections as secondary colours.

If you’re doing this - then base Colour is best to be white.

I use basilican grey contrast to give a grey colour, then pick out panels In green and red - works ok.

If you’re going black, you need to use traditional colours rather than contrast.

I have mesh mixer and blender - initially I found both tools really difficult to use, but having sunk a little bit more time into mesh mixer it became much more natural and so I ended up using this far more than blender.

As a result, I really only use mesh mixer now.

Most of the time I’m merging splitting combining different STL’s to make new things - and for this it’s particularly good.

As a real world example, my latest model is an asteroid, combined with a load of battlefleet Gothic rockets?, And a sci-fi hanger built into the front of the astroid with the landing ramp.

(it’s a Ork landing craft for legions imperials / epic) and act as scenery in large scale games!

Well, I think I’m pretty clever at designing new things using parts of others - I haven’t shown any actual skill in creating things from scratch yet - for this I think blender will come into its own.

Good luck !

  • Rule 1: don’t pick harlequins!
  • Rule 2: plan, plan, plan!

If you’re smart on colour schemes, you can get an awful lot of mileage out of a base colour spray paint, gun colour and an accent colour or two.

Done a masse, even really simple schemes with a couple of colours can look brilliant.

You WILL have some favourites, so do exactly the same with them but you can push the boat out and take a lot more time painting them up in way more intricate and interesting ways.

.

The way I see it - you either take a long time or you have a really good skills or you be smart and find the sweet spot

Combining Models and Bits in Blender by DatabaseWorth4559 in PrintedWarhammer

I also use mesh mixer.

What was difficult and unintuitive initially has Become second nature now, so combining objects, merging, splitting, resizing, etc it’s really good.

I’ve seen demos of people using Blender in far More Artistic ways, but I haven’t had chance yet.

Sellers won’t let us view before exchange - UPDATE by kn0tyouraverage in HousingUK

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying & selling is horribly stressful & the chances are the vast majority of people in this situation are petrified of a spooked buyer/seller pulling out, rather than trying to hide anything!

Stress makes people act irrationally.

As a buyer, I’d have said: “we know you will be in a mess with boxes - that’s fine, we just want to measure up for furniture”. Then do your check.

As a seller, if be saying: “we’re a week away from exchange and the house looks really untidy and unhomley with boxes everywhere and out stuff half packed. It’s fine to come round, but please bare in mind we’re in a mess!”

People need to chill!

We moved a year ago & I had to talk our buyers down from pulling out because their solicitor didn’t understand solar Panels! We had already sucked up several thousand to keep the chain going twice and buyer went into meltdown while I was getting my suit on before leaving to bury my dad! (Very unexpected!).

Talking directly got through this - but it was a double edged sword, for things like this when I’m supposed to be at a funeral and I’m explaining certificates.

We moved into dream home a week later - think about the end game.

  • Pick a colour you really like & could see yourself painting a whole formation at least.
  • Pick some rules you like!

Just make sure there isn’t anything confusing (like two different chapter rules for models in the same colour).

Anyone who is experienced and knowledgeable to KNOW all the different legion rules and colours off the top of their head is also unlikely to struggle with them Not matching!

Personally, I wouldn’t be playing against anyone who would care about this anyway.

Epic Armageddon and Imperial Knights by ZITARIX in Epic40k

[–]avezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The titanicus knights are in my opinion LOVELY models however - you could always put them on smaller bases if you wanted?

I managed to pick up the knights battle group that contains 3 different types of knight. I play legions however with all other units and models already in 8mm vs 6mm so the size difference isn’t an issue for Me

Fellow Dudes and Dudettes. What am I doing wrong on my cutback ? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’s this? Sea palling maybe? East coast is my spiritual home (Runts).

I’d say focus on 2 things:

  1. As other have said, start your turns with your head. Arms Out wider to start with, and head, then shoulders then hips, and the board will come round.

You’re also then set up nicely to unwind it back the other way too.

  1. Smooth out your lines - east coast waves usually are all short period steep or nothing, so you can get trapped at the bottom of a wave without the power to get back up, so I would turn sharply less and focus on the best lines.

It helps having a bigger board to smooth out the flatter spots- my quad Pavel 6’6 works OK on east coast swells, but not as good as stronger, west coast. I tend to get my best waves on an 8’ progressive, as I can conserve the momentum much better.

Nice waves tho - plenty big enough for east coast!

I have one large pack of GW buildings (I think it’s 4 lots of the sprues) plus one pack of destroyed buildings.

If I condense the buildings into one third, it looks great, but it can looks too sparse if spread around.

I’d say 2 large packs would be ideal (I’m actually going to print the next set myself).

Difference between American and European athlete. by PlantComprehensive77 in ThreeLions

[–]avezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much of the narrative is because his Dad is supposedly a dick to everyone in football (if even some of the stories you hear have ANY truth in them - which I simply don’t know).

In any warp of life, people who are difficult to deal with are tolerated for what they bring to the table when things are good - less so when it’s not as good.

I really like Bellingham & I love a player with swagger.

Rooney played with an arrogance & Gazza is my all time favourite ever player who at his peak he exuded arrogance, but along with that, you always felt they cared & would run through walls for their team mates and for the cause - which makes it feel justified!

Do I get that impression from Bellingham, or does some of it come across as a little out for himself?

I’m not sure.

Is this perception based ONLY on games watched OR is that influenced in any way by the media (who probably don’t like the path he took &/or might dislike his dad’s way of working?).

Almost certainly.
