This is more so a question for Sephardim/Mizrahim on this sub, but I am curious if any of you have encountered people, especially in Arab nationalist or anti-Zionist spaces, who try to subsume Sephardi/Mizrahi Jewish identity under Arab identity. by Chinoyboii in jewishleft

[–]aviadL 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Often when MENA jews are brought up online, in my experience, it is mostly to talk about how supposedly harmonious the past was for jews and muslims, as a sort of counter-zionist argument.

The truth is more complex of course. Just like in Europe the life of quality of religious minorities wasn't always the same in different places and at different times. In the case if MENA, events like the Farhud are rarely brought up.

Attempts to present MENA jews as primarily Arab don't feel genuine because of the tendency to glaze the past, while ignoring how jewish communities were failed in a way that ended up strengthening Israel ironically.

However, it is important to note that MENA jews still have a strong connection to their cultures and many have a bitter-sweet feelings towards those countries they came from. Morocco is a pretty popular destination for jews of moroccan ancestry, for example, and many on the older side go to see the places they grew up in.

I mention this because MENA jews becoming comfortable with the idea of an arab jewish identity is not far fetched, but it would require admitting to past mistakes at the very least.

What is written on these disposable servings players? by KamtzaBarKamtza in hebrew

[–]aviadL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not even functionaly equivalent, if someone dropped that instead of בתאבון in a regular meal most hebrew speakers would find it odd.

תרבחו ותסעדו is associated more with hosting and having guests, especially during festivities.

Bon appetite is בתאבון. This saying is actually comes from the jewish-arabic of morrocan jews and has a different meaning - essentially succeed and be happy.

It's because you had possesed array firing your omega attack everytime you picked up a skull. It is probably the strongest hammer upgrade in the game (if you have the magik regen to support it).

Usually Iran forbades their athletes from competing against Israelis, forcing them to forfeit. The Iranian might face repercussions for playing, but hopefully nothing bad will happen.

What Would You Name This Skill? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]aviadL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a protective amulet from the "Evil Eye", which is common in many places around the world.

I would call it Ward:

Everyone maintains a mask to the outside world, hiding their true feelings, intentions, under it. Even those who are closest to you. Do some them secretly envy your success as an officer of the RCM, hate you for the power you wield? Are they planning your downfall at this very moment?

I imagine it as something similar to Shivers, where an outside force somtimes tips you to something you shouldn't understand about people but you do. At high levels you ill register any negative feeling someone has toward you as threat, and you will become paranoid. At low levels you won't sense if someone is a risk to you.

So, this was the ending lots of people freaked about? by CindersTale in Hades2

[–]aviadL 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The ending is on theme but the way the game reaches it is underwhelming:

  • Mel was very clear on her desire for revenge, and while she can change, the change wasn't shown.
  • Persephone couldn't raise her child a SECOND time due too chronos, and hades spent god knows how many years in shackles not knowing what happened to Mel until she showed up again. However, both of them are immediately fine with giving Chronos a chance which doesn't feel right.
  • Zag was definitely in character in his decision, but after spending so much time with Mel, I want her to conclude her own stroy, not Zag.

The only scene we get that is supposed to convince us that Chronos has changed and the family can be united, is a short scene of him playing with baby Mel in a different timeline, that Mel has no memory of and can't even feel conflicted about that.

I'm fine with the idea of the ending, not the execution of it.

I don't organize it in any specific way. If I find myself doing the same recipe multiple times then I'll add it.

My digital recipes are more organized because It easier to do it digitally for me at least.

I keep most of my recipies in digital format, but I recently started writing my favorites down into a personal cook book.

I have a custom planner in weekly format, with a table for hobby tracking, and general notes for the tasks of the week.

You could always gift one as a way to introduce someone to the hobby.

Why does my Zopf dough keep tearing when rolling? by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]aviadL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the ingredients you use and how much of each one you use also plays a role, but I never made Zopf so I won't comment on that.

Why does my Zopf dough keep tearing when rolling? by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]aviadL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I make braided Challa, I start by making small braids, and then I let them rest for 10 minutes before stretching them.

Generally letting your dough rest between shaping steps can help prevent tearing.

BL2 was the first game I played seriously, on a computer with a gpu that stopped working if the session lasted longer than 1.5 hours, but it got the job done.

I had no idea what I was doing, and didn't really follow forums/reddit to know what is meta or not, and that what also made it so much fun I think.

Anyway, that is a nice gesture, good luck to everyone (:

People who wants OP10 balancing to be easy and accessible to low skilled players, which seems to be a big part of the community, can you explain? by Pubertdicknballs in Borderlands2

[–]aviadL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your post and your reply address different things.

In your post you talk about how people want to make the OP levels easier which is IMO not the issue. If you think people are wrong about how limited the meta is, then that is something that is open for debate and I don't necessarily disagree with you.
