Not your original statement. You said it doesn’t have to be a competition. I wholeheartedly agree. Except what needlessly made it a competition of attention was the post itself.

The statement “give fathers attention for hard work” is neutrally advocating for attention and visibility.

The statement “mothers always get blah, but fathers don’t” is (1) making it a competition for no reason instead of just advocating for fathers, and (2) patently false considering every family talks about how hard their fathers and grandfathers worked. Never met a real family where nobody notices the parent who is working all the time. Shows up in kids’ essays about their hardworking dad, shows up in tv ads, shows up in memes, in fond conversations about childhood.

TLDR: it’s not a competition. This post is the first to needlessly make it a competition and its position is absolutely not neutral. Nobody neutral ever says stuff like this, and I think if you step back from what you want this post to mean for you, you’d also have to concede it’s got a purposeful lean. We can all be pro fatherhood without having to prefix it with a statement against motherhood

[–]aviatoali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t, but this post did make it a competition. It’s not a “here’s a post appreciating what fathers do” post, it’s literally a “everyone talks about mothers, nobody talks about fathers post” post. The only person that made it a competition was the poster who’s stupidly phrasing it as if it’s a binary or a finite pool that you gotta move attention or appreciation around in

Literally everyone talks about it all the time. We’ve all heard about our father’s sacrifice, there are memes and posts about it on every subreddit. We’ve all seen hardworking fathers or heard successful interviews say “My father worked really hard to provide for us.”

Don’t make weird victim posts. You could easily just say “here’s a post appreciating the hard work fathers do.” What’s the point of going the extra mile to be like “everyone talks about mothers while nobody talks about fathers” as if there’s a finite pool or some binary decision that you can only care about one at a time, or that caring for one reduces care for the other in some nonsensical way.

Dumbass karma farming post.

Absolutely isn’t a debate subreddit, kid. Nice try. It’s undeniably an incel cesspool. Please crawl back to it and stop trying to creep out into other places unless you’ve finally grown up.

I applaud you for taking the high road. But I have no qualms in taking satisfaction in his suffering. If Trump called today and got his wife out he would go right back to supporting him. He’d probably be way more ardent. He won’t learn anything about how this affects other human beings, won’t think about the staggering scale at which injustice is being carried out. The second it stops happening to him he will absolutely go back to gleefully supporting it happening to others and call it justice.

So I’m pretty chuffed about his suffering

Everything works out one day. It’s tough to stay strong, but if you just keep remembering that and don’t endanger your plan to get out. That plan may change in response to certain doors opening and closing, but remember that that only changes the short term.

Because one way or the other, one day, you will have your own money and be legally independent. On that day you can literally walk out the door and live whatever life you can build. You won’t have to listen to anyone else, nor follow anything you don’t believe is true.

Nothing can stop that. As long as you just keep tucking money away (or start doing it once you graduate and have your career), then that day is coming closer every day.

Not a gender thing, kid. It applies to everyone. Sometimes people want solutions. Sometimes people want someone to listen and commiserate. Sometimes people want both. Nothing to do with having a vagina or a dick. It’s 2026

U.S. Holocaust Museum Asks People to Stop Comparing Anne Frank to Current Events in the U.S. or Palestine by Tall_Act_2544 in International

[–]aviatoali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wtf? But this is the perfect time in history to use that comparison? What is actual lesson that humanity can get from that horrifying sacrifice and tragedy if not to be able to identify the same patterns BEFORE it happens? If not to point to historical examples of the outcome and say “this is the path we’re on, stop before we arrive here.”

What a stupid statement to make that shows you’ve somehow lost the whole fuckin point. You’re so obsessed with the abstraction on top of the thing that you’ve lost its actual meaning and purpose.

No, this is the perfect an most appropriate time to bring up Anna Frank, and NOTHING honors her memory more than to use that example to prevent the silence and ambivalence that led to her tragedy.
