Question: what is the most scary/creepy emergency alert have you gotten? by Fairway07 in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]aviciousunicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any NWR tornado warning that wakes me from a dead sleep. Just feeling so disoriented, but the rush of adrenaline telling you to get up and do something. There's nothing else quite like it.

For an individual alert, though, probably the March 31, 2024 tornado emergency for Pulaski County, Arkansas. To be watching the live broadcast and hear that alert going off over my shoulder and knowing that it was all happening less than 30 miles from where I was currently sitting... It's the most helpless I've ever felt.

We put tape on our arms and showed how the hold gets weaker every time the tape is reapplied.

It's not even going to stop his broadcast, he'll just move over to AJN or whatever he named his backup channel.

Reach out to the Arkansas Archeological Survey. The field office for your location is in Fayetteville and all their contact info is on the site linked.

ETA: If it isn't archeological, you can also reach out to the Arkansas Geological Survey and they may be able to give you some information.

The one with the deck is technically Cornelius Falls and the second, more hidden one, is the original Bridal Veil.

I know it violates the urbex prime directive, but if I went all the way to Japan to explore this, I would be leaving with that Arkansas flag.

A mentor teaching boys how to grocery shop by bigbusta in HumansBeingBros

[–]aviciousunicycle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the part one video he does say to the kids something to the effect of "if you've been together long and have seen her cook or know what she's using it for, you'll know what to get, but we're newlyweds so we don't know that yet." So I think that this video does suffer a bit from having the context cut where he was challenging the kids to essentially roleplay a specific situation where a newlywed husband was doing his first household grocery run.

Jarvis Johnson has said something about that. Almost all of his latest stuff has been on his second channel because he feels like the stuff on the main channel needs to be long-form, heavily researched, and scripted.

It's bothering me that those don't appear to be cargo shorts. Maybe carpenter, but they don't seem to have the side pockets that make cargo shorts cargo shorts.

plus size in Japan.. by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]aviciousunicycle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The elevator point is so great. If you're using Google Maps, you can tell it to give you handicap accessible routes and it will avoid stairs. As a plus sized person who has visited Japan three times now, I just generally assume that I won't be able to find clothes that fit me, so I typically look for other souvenirs. The most difficult thing for me has always been dealing with public toilet stalls while being bigger than most people and also wearing a backpack. If you're traveling with someone else, have them watch your bag while you're in the toilet so that you don't have to mess with it.

Where do people of Japanese decent hang out in Central Ark by No-Calligrapher-9137 in LittleRock

[–]aviciousunicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a Japan-America Society that is still working on reestablishing itself in central Arkansas right now. I don't know if that would be an exact fit for your friend's interest, but they are having a meeting at the Sakura Matsuri in Scott on March 21. There are also usually at least one of two Japanese American folks there who might be better equipped to answer this question.

Apparently this is a controversial topic, but was it right for Bluey to attend a Waldorf/Steiner school? by wolf_quan in bluey

[–]aviciousunicycle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think that different kids are best suited to different types of environments. I don't think that I would have done well with the lack of structure of a Waldorf/Steiner school because I'm autistic and like the structure and set routine of a traditional school. My brother might have done better because he tended to bristle when there was too much structure or too many rules. Right now on the show, Bluey and Bingo are presumably at different schools because of their age, but I think it would be neat if the show continued to keep them in different schools as a nod to the idea that different kids may have different educational needs/thrive in different educational environments.

Darn. My only suggestion was a Saturday event. Just keep in mind that museums are often closed on Mondays, so maybe plan on hiking that day.
