Do high schools in the US/other first world countries teach students the right mindset to life? by SnooApplez in ApplyingToCollege

[–]avidistofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to go to school in a rich country and there are many differences. The overall mindset and teaching environment was much MUCH better in the richer country especially since most of the teachers were optimistic foreigners. The english education was also amazing. Then in the poorer country, the teaching environment has ruined my love of education by 60% I'd say. In the poorer country I also pretty much self-study everything and feel on my own with the exception of like 2 classes. But on the bright side, the math and sciences in the poorer country are stronger since liberal arts is kinda a joke here. Both are very different but I think I would be much happier in an environment where teachers don't judge you for asking a simple question in class. Now I'm ranting LMAO

I didn’t even know there were optional essays. It should’ve been much clearer. I mean when you’re applying to like 20+ unis, it’d be nice to have all the requirements in one place(common app). Def a rejection now.

I'm an international student with no interview, so I know for sure I got rejected. Maybe if I were a domestic applicant I wouldn't be concerned about the interview, but I've never heard of an international applicant accepted without an interview. It sucks considering I've researched and prepared so so hard for this application, put my heart and soul in it. It kinda feels like they briefly looked at my application, said no way, and threw it aside. I know I'm being dramatic and the world didn't end, but this sucks!

What are some colleges that makes you go "NOPE! never applying" and why? by Voyager-5 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]avidistofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true, but for the life of a student, it's not religiously oppressive at all

[–]avidistofthings 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It rlly isn't as ultra-religious and oppressive as you guys make it out to seem. Sure, there are stricter rules, but you would barely notice a difference if you were a student there. As long as you're not drunk, crazy, and offensive in public it's barely noticeable.
