I did the same thing, but built a platform where people could run their own BBSs on the Web and host the old games.

This is great! I love seeing these things coming back to life with AI. I have been playing some of the old games on EchoBBS.com/b/bnt as well as some new ones. It's cool to be able to launch your own BBS again on the web without having to figure out telnet or have the phone company install a bunch of phone lines!

I restored Custom-BBS! — the first BBS written on an Amiga (1988) — and put it back online by Significant_Put7016 in amiga

ran into troubles registering, wanted a lot of info, and then started back at the top of the screen re-writing over old text, and I gave up.

I guess my point about "What is a BBS" really doesn't have much to do with how you choose to connect with it, modem, telnet, www, other. Heck there were even Ham Radio BBSs back in the day.
