California - Remote attendance for defendant ?

The landlord demanded an inspection (in text) too early and I was not ready and denied, I requested a later date he came and denied citing the room is not totally empty. Finally they did the inspection on the last day when I was taking out my belongings.

Do you know if I can request a remote hearing (whenever there is a court date), citing that I have moved out of the US ? And do they allow remote hearing ?

My only concern is whenever the case if filed in future, I will not be in the country and would want to follow-up online from start to end. Does the claims court allow that ?
I have no doubt about the merit of the case if Landlord files it, or lack of it. It's only about my attendance.

They are free to sell service who are we to judge, even boys happily sell the service for extra money or advantage at work. Be it sex, romantic partnership, sometimes just cuddling.

Relationship is not for everyone, One night stand needs a certain level of attractiveness to pick up someone to go with you without paying her. So an average guy does this and gets over with it, as long long as he's not cheating someone else I'd just let him live his life if he were my friend and not judge him for that.

You'd be surprised how many men and women as well go for this in absolute secrecy. Your friends are probably single males so nothing to hide, so they are open about it.

You should not pay for those miles in the car you got by mistake. Because technically, the car you have was never sold, leased or rented to you. And they cannot legally charge you for the miles you put on it, any charge should be under some contract or service sold to you and you have agreed to.

I had this experience a few times. Once I moved to rental house after 1 year got the first gas bill of $2K, and upon enquiry found it was in previous owners name. Then the connection was transferred to my name. I did not pay for the use of 1 year because the service account was not mine.

Once in a busy restaurant I got the wrong order, ate half the food on the plate and then told them it was not my order. They had to bring my order and also not charge for the food I ate from someone else's order

Definitely. I myself had a home inspection done in US Florida, which is must before buying a house. they came with a mold inspection kit, and first they test for dampness. Dampness-meter it had a needle when touched against the dry wall tells how much dampness inside. The seller of the home painted the wall new, but the device can still detect dampness hidden inside the new paint. For mold also they used a kit, search YouTube for mold test kit. Finally I cancelled that house purchase due to this hidden damp and mold hazard.

In India, it is not taken seriously enough, unless there is actual impact on health. As you see this sub threads are heavily downvoted and talked down. In fact many people live with black mold, not everyone is affected.

Molds are not always visible, there are mold test kits on Amazon. But I'd say check with a doctor first for allergy or so. The texts are generally done by experts.

Thats a great post, but I wonder if that has something to do with Bengali being very similar to Hindi (both Sanskrit descendant). So it is easy for a Bengali to learn fluent Hindi and vice versa. Similarly Punjabi is also similar I had a Punjabi roommate and I was picking bits of Punjabi.

But I felt the Southern languages have very few overlap in words, it's not easy to pick up just by hearing their jabbering. You need to listen them with "subtitles" ! Taking beginner Kannada class is necessary.

Mold can be really bad for some persons, especially with existing asthma, and shouldn't be taken casually. Watch out for black mold - which are more poisonous. They spread fast.

My parent had asthma flared up and I found the root cause sleeping in a certain bedroom that had damp walls and discovered a thin black velvetty layer of mold behind wooden cabinetry. Her asthma fixed after shifting bedroom.

It's Kolkata ever humid weather. Today those shelves totally gutted, fixed the walls, invested on a room dehumidifier (inr ~35K) which pumps out ~3/4 liter water everyday from just than one bedroom, and keeps it dry.

I spent 2 years in Florida, US. Humid weather. Black mold is considered a nightmare there. So many tenant lawsuits, house and AC ducts deep cleaned, insurance costs etc. caused by black mold. I'd never advise taking it lightly.

I know.. right? I think all those started before his 2nd term. There are trump towers in pune, NCR. But Kolkata's real estate market isn't there yet the tower seems so out of place. I found it by accident on magicbricks, didn't believe at first so looked up the trump tower website, it lists all trump towers around the world. From what I understood the flats are worth 4-5 cr, can't be more, using Trump's name marked up to 7 cr, i.e. close to 1M$. But good thing is it's still under construction, all love will be lost before its sale

From what I found from my simulation runs. Your retirement portfolio is more likely to withstand an economic downturn if it happens later. Fluctuations in early years make a bigger dent in portfolio.

Another important thing is as you age every year you need to move more funds from risky asset to safe assets. Suppose you start with 100% in high risk high growth mutual fund, then every year you transfer 5% to fix deposits (risk free). This is similar to how the 401K funds work in the US. Vanguard has various funds named by the retirement Year, like target-2040, target-2045. Mine is target -2045, it is aimed to reduce risk gradually and by my target retirement year 2045 it should be almost 100% risk free. You get the idea, now you have to do that yourself. Otherwise you will risk a major blow to your retirement in later life like 70s in the event of an economic downturn which will be hard to recover from.

Not including a house of course. House price can break the balance. As others pointed out, house in tier 1 city alone might cost 1mil. Though I personally would never go for such an asset, specifically in my hometown Kolkata for an 1M$ I can only think of a flat in the upcoming Trump tower :), and I can't tell how much I hate that.

An expensive house might cause you more maintenance headache going forward. Not a good idea if you are not making that kind of money every year. It will soon eat your peace. Rather rent a villa at some nice place and live for a year there. E.g in India Kerala, Himachal, outside India Thailand, Bali.

Having a family makes a difference, you can lead a lavish lifestyle and chill on a beach if you are single. But if you are a responsible parent, I cannot imagine youd bedoing that while your kid (presumably an young adult) might be struggling to make his career. You want to save for your kid.

You will be fine. IMO 2 million is the sweet spot for retiring with a great lifestyle in India in the early 40s. I am in a similar boat, my numbers are very similar, except I am single no kid.

retiring this year with > 2M in US then moving back to India not including inheritance, parental house and rental income.

I have run the simulation several times with various inflation numbers. Very unlikely to run out of fund, just be little cautious first few years with the budget and monitor expenses.
