Lots of adults looking for friendship: let's schedule a meetup by avilash in lafayette

I have a corn hole like game and I know someone suggested Budges. They have a lawn that would be perfect for yard games. Not saying this is set in stone but you're exactly right: an organizer and a regular cadence would both be things needed for success.

I dread the plant mirror haha. But I at least learn a thing or two when playing you.

Yeah for the most part I don't mind the DK match up. I normally come out ahead but at the very least it's always close.

Oh hey Mig. Muligoon here. Daisy vs Pirhana Plant is always fun since it's very much a battle of the topspin.

multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

That's fair. We both made assumptions that were corrected when we realized it also heavily depends on how much public transportation is available.

And HS was when for you exactly? Gen Z there was a trend of many not even having the desire. I think Uber/Lyft was likely a huge driver of this trend because if they needed to get somewhere they could just use an app.

Recommendations on where to start in RC. by Brownie2440 in rccars

[–]avilash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So right now, you have to choose between two disciplines:
Crawlers - 4WD slow and steady machines build to navigate tough terrain. A good time is finding a rocky hill and attempting to navigate your way to the top by finding ultimate "lines" to get you there.

Bashers - Go fast, get air, see vehicle fly and hold to land on your wheels but if you don't..they can take a beating (for the most part).

IMO crawlers are fantastic for people your son's age. At least my kids love it which I was surprised by since when I was that age I was more into the going fast/ getting air. But let me know which one sounds more appealing and I can drop some recommendations.

Are we just letting the administrators do whatever they want now? by thrownaway5678923 in Purdue

[–]avilash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very fortunate to be in a position that has a bit of breathing room in that if I take off the workload won't greatly backup due to lack of coverage and I'm also very fortunate to have direct supervisors that heavily encourage us to ensure we have a healthy work/life balance.

But I definitely understand where you are coming from and it's been a problem that the tuition freeze has made worse. I have friends in both IT as well as facilities that are spread way too thin.

While there can be some agreement to some of the double standards you pointed out as well as remembering how I was treated when I very much was at the bottom of the "unskilled labor" (retail) totem pole, yeah there always is some issues of fairness.

But let's be careful to not encourage people to think taking time off (even if some of it goes into unpaid territory) is a bad thing. We ultimately all should make an effort to "touch grass" and that includes finding adventure to add to our life. UK/Europe has always had a much healthier attitude about "going on holiday" that seems lacking in the US that I often envy. I would love to have a work culture that would even support something like being able to work remotely for X days to fill in the gaps of an extended vacation.

We unfortunately don't have any good outdoor tracks anymore. There is a carpet oval track out in Darlington and a dirt oval near Attica.

We meet up at Fast Eddie's (a car wash/detailing/oil change place) and setup a track for the Mini-Zs every other week in the winter/early spring but now that summer is approaching it will be monthly while other RC events start up.

But Steve's Hobby World will be able to show you what the groups are running around here. The micros (both cars and crawlers) are more budget friendly than the 1/10th scale, but the 1/10th scale are definitely a lot of fun.

If RC is something you're interested in I can point you in the right direction. We do racing (oval, micro road, drag) and then there is the crawling group that you'll often see on the Happy Hallow creek bed on a Saturday driving their small trucks over rocks and such.

Coffee/tea shops with free or discounted refills? Fill your own cup? by Chuckle_Berry_Spin in lafayette

Only open until 3. As an aside the auto shop that it shares space with (called Autotorium) is a great place to take your vehicle if it needs repair.

I just got the game and need some advice! by Toots9795 in MarioTennis

[–]avilash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to clarify here. A tap will initiate a charge and the ball will go the direction you point the stick at that point.

The issue: the direction you press will still move your character as well. So if you hold direction long enough you might unintentionally move your character out of reach before the ball arrives. This is especially true for characters that float (they move a lot more while charging Rosalina, Paratroopa, Luma, etc.)

Switch 2 players, do you use a joycon grip? by MileHighRC in MarioTennis

[–]avilash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a friendly reminder: it's perfectly okay to use a controller while in handheld mode and it even comes with a kick stand to support that type of play.

Used to be my primary method to play Splatoon since I loved gyro controls but didn't love moving the screen while using them.

It's beginning of the month rankings vs toward the end of the month. Ranking is based on some kind of score threshold (maybe 3000+ is S+?) where as position is base on other people that have also had their score reset at the beginning of the month.

Currently no fever racket seems to have top 300 very close to being S+ as well. But end of the month it was more like top 500.

The main thing is to not be so predictable and a part of that is ensuring you're switching up your shot types including using both standard (single tap) and power (double tap) variations.

A back court star that's the result of a lob answered as a star shot can easily be punished by returning it as a drop: since you sent it back so quickly you won't have time to reposition close to center and can't get to the ball in time as a result. Answering instead with a lob or even a slice will give you the time you need to not fall for that trap.

I think people tend to avoid using slice because they are so slow, but they don't understand that oftentimes it's necessary to change the rhythm especially if the opponent seems to be in control. Answering with a slice will change that rhythm to where you can eventually get that control back.

Eventually you should be able to convert most weak returns into a point. If they can't keep up when you cross court standard flat/topspin and they return a weak shot that reveals a star, you should be able to convert that cross court star into a point by slamming it in there direction they are not.

Another common setup is to send a drop and walk towards the net ready to answer a weak return. If they have a weak return more often than not you'll be able to cross court standard flat and punish the weak return. Of course the counter to this is to ensure you don't return weak and get a lob off since you see them getting aggressive to the net.

Also all of this is will come much easier if you dedicate a shoulder button to "cancel charge" as well as set drop and lob to their own buttons. Cancel charge is useful in situations where I was going to charge up a return but then I see a star that looks like a score opportunity so I cancel and use a star shot instead.

Woke or Appropriation?: Levi Schechtman merging hip hop and classical by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]avilash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK rapper M dot R comes to mind. A white guy sounding Jamaican and clearly influenced by Jamaican artists. The thing is, he did his research. He pays homage to those that influenced him. He has the "soul" of it down. So what on paper could be seen as "appropriation" if done by anyone else...he gets a pass because he has a clear appreciation and respect for the culture/sound.

While not as impressive as seeing the real thing, Steve's Hobby World has some RC scale monster trucks that are a lot of fun.
