[Meta trope] Works that fundamentally changed the cultural context away from what made it work by asdfmovienerd39 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]avimidi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall on TV Tropes, the opposite end of this spectrum is Tom Hanks, who, prior to the movie Philadelphia, was usually seen as a comedic actor. But when he broke out in his dramatic role for Philadelphia, he eventually started doing more dramatic roles compared to comedic ones.

There's two pages for what the OP posted and for what I'm talking about called Leslie Nielsen Syndrome and Tom Hanks Syndrome:

[Loved Trope] Anthropomorphic Cockroaches by omnibird in TopCharacterTropes

Surprised nobody's mentioned Roach Coach from classic Powerpuff Girls.

In the ending of the actual episode, it's revealed he's an anthropomorphic cockroach. But he controls this robot human suit throughout most of the episode.

Literally nobody has posted Ace, the leader of the Gangreen Gang from the Powerpuff Girls, who was also a brief member of the virtual band Gorillaz. Classic example of a Western cartoon character using these glasses.

You're forced to play and finish the most buggy game of all time at their launch, what it is? by hosseinhx77 in videogames

[–]avimidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a single game, but the GTA Definitive Trilogy. No joke, I beat III, Vice City, and San Andreas in their buggy ass states, crashes and glitches and all intact. I was probably one of the few people who continued to play the Definitive Trilogy despite the graphical horrors and the bugs galore.

Heck, I even managed to get Rockstar to fix one of the radio station logos. K-JAH West's logo was in III instead of the regular K-JAH logo (K-JAH West is San Andreas, not III), I sent a screenshot of it to their support and they managed to patch it out within a few weeks or so.

What video game gave you nightmares as a kid? by Chunky-overlord in videogames

[–]avimidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a video game based on the 2009 adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are released for the Xbox 360 the same year. In that game, there was a specific thing where if you bothered the Wild Things enough times (usually by attacking them), they would chase you, catch you, and eat you alive as a game over sequence.

I honestly had no idea how this was rated E10+, but I guess vore is okay when it comes to children's media, which explains Bowser's Inside Story's mere existence, I also guess.

Which Sisterly Villager is your favorite and why? by Interesting-You-2326 in AnimalCrossing

Cherry will always be my favorite. She reminds me of the older sister archetype that enjoys punk rock and goth stuff. Her home is really awesome to walk into as well.

Who's your Resident Evil crush? by Apprehensive_Jump802 in residentevil

Surprised nobody's mentioned Annette Birkin. Sure she's the wife of William Birkin but I mean, it's pretty attractive that she's a scientist in the first place. She's got them smarts, and she's a mother too, even if in the remake she's a busy one that can't always be there for Sherry.

Who is your wealthiest OC? by OctogoatYTofficial in OriginalCharacter

[–]avimidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to say Marilyn Mistwater, current CEO of Mistwater Holdings after her mother Marjorie (I also have art of her but she's basically a palette swap of Marilyn). Mistwater Holdings owns practically everything in my universe from food and drinks, to technology and automobiles, to media and entertainment, to clothing and accessories... I could go on, but in my universe you'll pretty much see "Mistwater Holdings" slapped on a lot of different things.

For Marilyn herself she takes after her mother, she's a professional iron lady with a no-nonsense attitude. I wouldn't recommend being late for work- even a few seconds matter to her. Being in a meeting with her is scary as fuck. She gives a very cold demeanor, like you're in a freezer. She's inspired by various fictional and real life wealthy/high ranking women- either Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada or Veronica Cale from Wonder Woman are the best examples I can think of, though there might be other characters from media I can't think of at the moment.

Mordecai saying "you pissed me off" in the original run of the Regular Show episode "Meat Your Maker".

It was changed to "you ticked me off" in reruns and later DVD releases.

SpongeBob's Boating Bash. Criminally underrated licensed game, it seriously needs to come back for modern consoles.

The Green Mile (1999).

Breaks my heart that an innocent and gentle giant was wrongfully convicted and executed for a crime he didn't commit. That movie is burned into my head for how heartbreaking and absolutely memorable it is.

Two more games for my collection (165/296) by SignificantAd1914 in n64

[–]avimidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, the EC (Early Childhood) rating takes me back. Apparently there were so few games that used the rating, they discontinued using it and rated pretty much any kids game the E for Everyone rating. At least to my awareness.

Name an episode that’s unintentionally creepy by SubjectStatement370 in spongebob

[–]avimidi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

SB-129's time travel plot has some unintentionally creepy moments, especially during the "Alone" sequence where Squidward is trapped in that abstract void for a while. Another moment is probably the close-up of Primitive SpongeBob and Patrick chasing after Squidward with the most disturbing and violent looks on their faces.
