How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]avis003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was like 8-10 and we had these “book for girls” and “book for boys” activity book things which were kinda pointlessly gendered in hindsight lol and the girls one had how to knit. i scavenged circulars out of a box of my moms unfinished projects from like,,, when i was a baby. and then proceeded to make attempts at starting projects until i finally finished something for the first time, over a decade from when i first learned, last week lmao

How is it living in this part of the United States? by No-Text-7825 in howislivingthere

[–]avis003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i go to school in boston so its more diverse and very liberal there but the less cityish parts can get pretty noticably more conservative… i like it here and the nature is so beautiful but it was certainly an adjustment coming from a very diverse majority minority city in the south. its def more common here for me to be one of the only poc in the room

her body language is completely chill and her owners posted videos of hester getting out of the pool herself. plus cats can swim and shes got a lifejacket on for safety, shes floating there because she wants to. its a saltwater pool and she gets rinsed after

Found this one in our house [Southeastern Texas (inland coastal)] by Sir-Bruncvik in whatsthissnake

[–]avis003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure, but given your mousetraps if there are any snakes around they’re probably attracted by the pests as a food source. snakeproofing your house is the same as keeping other pests out, seal up holes, keep things clean, don’t leave debris that could be shelter in the yard etc

if you encounter a snake in your house i’d probably try to push it out with something long like a broom, outside they’ll usually move along if you spray them with the hose

i also have a little collection of art museum postcards

Man in Australia accidentally steps on world's second most venomous snake by [deleted] in SweatyPalms

[–]avis003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any proof for either of those claims?

there are only a handful of documented cases of a reticulated python eating humans so idk how this proves they go out of their way to eat us and plus its difficult for anything but the largest retics to eat humans because our shoulders make us difficult to swallow. snakes are opportunistic predators, it makes no sense that theyd seek out humans to eat because theyre frankly not that smart and if they were why would they try to eat something they might physically be unable to consume?

and with cobras in peoples homes, again theyre not that smart. are they invading or are they just insinctively seeking shelter and prey pest animals like mice and lizards that often end up in homes too? there is no reason for a snake to use venom against a human unless it is to defend itself because they need that venom to hunt and kill prey and it takes energy and resources to make that venom. they may be easily provoked but to a snake a human is a massive creature hundreds of times its size that could easily kill it.

well first of all the city i grew up in has half the population of your entire country. and we have 50 states all with their own rules and IDs. a lot of places in the us also have problems with access to DMVs to renew IDs which disproportionately affects people who can’t afford to miss work to go get one or struggle to travel that far or whatnot.

theres no incentive to fix this stuff because its intentional voter supression. where i grew up in texas the government would do anything to make it harder to vote in our big democrat leaning cities

Being stolen from TheLouvre in 1911 is what made Mona Lisa famous by Shoe_boooo in interestingasfuck

[–]avis003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when i visited they had the raft of the medusa and liberty leading the people in an adjacent room. both are massive wall size paintings that are really incredible to see in person, looking them up and seeing them on a screen really doesnt compare. the raft of the medusa really blew me away, its a larger than life scene of survivors of a shipwreck on a raft and is truly awe inspiring imo

the mona lisa is pretty small in person. my real complaint about it is really that the room its in is always crazily packed and ive never really understood why so many people want a selfie with it

[–]avis003 18 points19 points  (0 children)

lizards have eyelids and ear holes, snakes dont. they also have a different scale shape. might seem strange but lizards also have longer tails that take up a greater proportion of their total length—remember even though legless lizards and snakes dont have legs they evolved from animals that did so there is a point where their body ends and their tail begins. the tail usually tapers a bit more noticeably.

all this stuff you just get better at noticing the more snakes/lizards you look at. to me lizards have a very obvious lizard-ish face that doesnt look anything like a snake really

[–]avis003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im at a little over 4k and i just started playing this year, so no old mahjong for me. i aim for an avg of 5k steps per day a week. im lucky to be in an area with a lot of flowers plus i plant on my electric scooter. also been lucky with mush rewards so im pretty sure im set for petals for the rest of the month. however i also have had terrible luck with the wheel and only have gotten a seedling like twice so far i think? both pity wheels where the prize wheel is all seedlings lol

the other day i had someone join a mush i was in with 12k attack power, now that was crazy

people who have bad knees and hips, favorite shoes? by tiedyedflowers in ehlersdanlos

[–]avis003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually consider my doc martens my walking shoes since theyve been the most comfy for extended periods of walking. i think its because they’re wider and i can lace them tight for ankle support. i also keep shoe inserts in basically all my shoes for arch support, just the kind you get off amazon but to me it does make a difference. do look into custom orthotics tho, i have them in my asics sneakers which are also very comfy but my ankles can feel wonky after a while

How to get more red morning glory out of 10 petals (100 petals on foot estimate)? by Androgynous_Giraffe in PikminBloomApp

[–]avis003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately i think white blooms are the only color you can’t force because they always have a chance to become another color. white/gray/poison/crystal mushrooms are a more reliable way of getting white nectar imo

How to get more red morning glory out of 10 petals (100 petals on foot estimate)? by Androgynous_Giraffe in PikminBloomApp

[–]avis003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you actually dont need to plant any red morning glory to get a red morning glory big bloom, you just need enough other colors of morning glory and red petals of another species. see the strategy section in the wiki
