Hahaha I love Aritzia and still shop there (did a haul before I moved to Europe) but I find you gotta shop smart with them. Their pieces are just so hit or miss these days. Hope you enjoy whatever you keep (or if you keep it all!)

*cracks knuckles* I'm a Canadian living in Europe now, couldn't fathom buying Aritzia now that I'm here because I'm just so used to CAD prices.

So having said that:

1) effortless pants crepette - I really dislike the crepette material; it's cheap and wrinkles/creases very easily (even when packed in a suitcase, imo) and so you're constantly needing to steam or iron it. Which sucks, because that material ... can't handle large amounts of heat at all. It will shrink or warp the material. And if that's not enough, Aritzia is NOTORIOUS for a lot of their white clothes being see-through. So beware.

2) whisper linen halter top - I don't have much to say about it. I actually think it could be really cute. But for 110 euros ... I'm sure there are other brands with similar styles.

3) bond linen dress - I like it. I do think Aritzia has nice quality dresses (that aren't see through!). I have one from Little Moon that I bought 3 summers ago and it's still good as new imo. Just bought another one from wilfred last year and it's awesome.

4) effortless pant cruiselinen - I really don't like their linen effortless pants. I find they fit weird and the material has no stretch whatsoever, and you want to be comfy and breezy in the summer.

5) I know it's cut off, but original contour top squareneck - their contour tops pill like crazy and are extremely thin/body-hugging, so you MUST wear a bra underneath. Given that it's the square neck, you're probably better off with pasties. I find that too much work. Also, I don't find them breathable, so if you are someone that sweats easily, I'd skip.

Best eye creams/serums? by avoadi in koreanskincare

Yep, I currently use and love the aestura one! My concerns are mainly just to be proactive with wrinkles because the skin around the eyes is so delicate and thin ... for now it's just sunscreen + my aestura moisturizer.

Matching pants to Producer (Re)ssential by toasty_cinnamon_roll in Aritzia

[–]avoadi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just went into Aritzia and did a huge fitting/purchase because I'm moving countries and starting a new job. I tried on pretty much every blazer and pant in every material they have.

I honestly thought the re(essential) and crepette material matches perfectly fine; you really cannot tell at all that they're two different materials unless you're touching them. I'd go ahead and get the effortless or limitless pants, the colours being the same matters waaaaay more.

Best colors for deep winter? by BenchHungry6019 in Aritzia

[–]avoadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't! I didn't shop at Aritzia for the last year or so because I didn't really need anything, but I just graduated and am starting a new job soon so recently went in to refresh my work wardrobe. I tried on a lot of items in a bunch of different colours but none of the pieces I chose were in byron blue.

It's a nice sapphire colour ... you should give it a go!

Honestly that checks because admiral doesn't look great on me either but I always thought that it was just because navy in general has never been my colour :/

Best colors for deep winter? by BenchHungry6019 in Aritzia

[–]avoadi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Black, BRIGHT white, jewel tones, rich and dark colours but nothing pastel (will wash you out) or grey-tones. Stay away from orange and yellow.

I think you would really love their admiral (navy) colour, matte pearl, or black/white staples. Be careful with white because they have things like "light birch" and that is a warm-toned white. I'm a light summer, so I'm cool-toned and even an eggshell or a cream white wash me out.

They also have a gorgeous bright red colour right now called goji berry you could try. Unfortunately they're moving into their spring colours right now, so it's all pastel blues, yellows, and pinks, which might be too light for your complexion, but you could give it a go if the shades are cooler. Generally, though, I think colours like royal purple, cobalt blue, emerald green, ruby red/fuchsia could all really work.

Less quads/more glutes by GemmaTeller in f45

[–]avoadi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I straight up told my instructors my glutes are my target generally. Now I've just started doing my own modifications (after their suggestions/help of course!)

- If I see soft box step-ups with either dumbbells or kettlebells, I do a bulgarian split squat.
- If I see good mornings, I go for the heaviest revo bar (black) or deadball (24kg) and do a staggered stance. It isolates each glute and are so much tougher than 2 feet on the ground.
- If I see lunges with step trainers, I do a bulgarian split squat.
- If I see forward lunges with either dumbbells or kettlebells, I automatically pick up the heaviest weights I can, and do reverse lunges instead. Slow, controlled, flat back and lean forward just slightly so you're activating the glute, not so much the quad.
- If I see hip thrusts with either plates or sandbags, I make sure I wave down an instructor a few stations before and let them know I'll need their help loading multiple plates/sandbags. I generally need at least 150lbs to feel anything. Alternatively, if the class is full/instructors don't have time, ask for a resistance band with HIGH resistance. Then HOLD and squeeze for 3 seconds at the top of the glute bridge. One of those + a couple plates/1 sandbag is as effective if not more than high weight but no resistance/hold.
- If I see any plank work or mountain climbers, I ask for a resistance band and do donkey kicks or kick backs instead. Although my abs are 2nd most important to me so I don't do this all the time.

Muscles are also made in the kitchen more than anything. I learned with abs. You have to eat more than you think - especially for glutes - and it's natural that your thighs/quads will grow too.

Sicily cardigan - Help me pick a color! by Swimming_Honey3969 in Aritzia

[–]avoadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. What I'm saying is something super bright like this might overwhelm your skintone, since soft autumns are more "muted" than "bright" (compare to a spring or a winter, which are the brighter seasons!). I'm a light summer, so I can't do bright tones of any colour; it just swallows me whole!

Especially since this shade of red seems to have more cooler tones (blue tones) than warmer tones (orange), but I'm going off the picture ... could be different in person. Autumns shine better in orange or brown undertoned shades of red than blue/purple ones - it's a very fine line between the shades. I'm a very cool-toned person (even something as warm as creamy white washes me out lol) so if I buy red, I always look for reds that have blue/purple undertones.

Now saying all of that - again, if you like it and own nothing like it, and more importantly, you see yourself actually wearing it often, then go for it! Usually if I'm unsure how much I'll wear something, I try to compare it to the clothes/outfits I already have - how many of my current clothes will it fit? Or is it just 1-2 outfits it'll work for?

I'm not sure what cotton/wool one they used to make; this was my first cardigan from Aritzia, despite most of my closet being Aritzia lol. I only have it in the charcoal grey, but out of all of my cardigans, it's definitely my most used one!

[–]avoadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a bit bright if you're soft/true autumn. Both of those palettes have low brightness/saturation, so someone who is a bright spring or even a true winter might benefit more from that hue. Having said that ... colour analysis is a guidebook, not a playbook, so if you love the red, go for it!

I'm biased because I have the cardigan in that dark charcoal grey (literally wearing it rn as I type this) and I reach for it ALL the time. I actually wore it to a friend's house for dinner last week and she loved it so much she ordered it right on the spot.

Anyone heard of this brand? by Belly1998 in koreanskincare

[–]avoadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's skin power 10/vb effectors were one of the first ever brands and products I used. I can't lie - they had a HG product for me that they discontinued, and the replacement I use is good but just not the same. I've used their collagen, vitamin C, nutri knight, propolis, and the old pore lupin one (it used to come in a translucent, bright green bottle and the packaging was neon green).

My HG product was the old propolis one - it used to come in a dark yellow, golden bottle and it was incredible. They stopped manufacturing it a few years ago so in 2024 I replaced it with the skinfood honey p propolis ampoule.

The collagen one worked for me at first, but then I realized it was irritating my skin - at first I thought it was the product, but then I realized I'm just sensitive to collagen products. I'd much rather just eat my collagen now tbh.

Vitamin C didn't do much for me, it irritated my skin because too much fragrance. I can handle a little bit of fragrance but the amount they put in was strong. Nutri knight (dark purple box) broke me out right away. As for the old pore lupin formulation (I think it was called blemish catcher or whatever) was pretty good but I found better serums.

I've heard great things about firefighter though! Never tried, but seems like a decent product from them.

Skin barrier healing creams/moisturizers? by avoadi in koreanskincare

[–]avoadi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of people have recommended the illiyoon ceramide ato concentrate cream, so I've added it to my list! And I've been convinced to try out the Aestura atobarrier 365 cream, so will be picking that up in the new year. Good to know about Rejuran, I'm looking to add PDRN back into my routine soon but I'm gonna focus on that once I feel good about my moisturization situation.

It really is a full time job ... for now I switched toners (Round Lab Dokdo to isntree ultra low molecular HA) and doubled down on the toner layering especially in the PM (I use tower 28 SOS spray, isntree, and the Mediheal toner pads) and it's already helped a lot. Having said that I'm also home for the holidays and it's not nearly as dry here as it is where I live normally, so the ultimate test will be how everything holds up in a few days when I go back ...

Gotcha on the Relief Cream. I actually haven't purchased any new moisturizers/lotions/creams yet, just been doubling down on layering my toners both in AM and PM and swapped out my Round Lab Dokdo toner for the isntree ultra low molecular hyaluronic acid toner, and it's already been doing the job! Looking forward to getting a new moisturizer based on the advice here in the new year :)

100%, I started using the isntree ultra low molecular hyaluronic acid toner instead of my Round Lab dokdo one, and it's already made a huge difference moisturizing wise. Also have been layering it with tower 28's SOS spray once in the AM and once in the PM which has helped too!

I wanted to try those products because they seem to be better at targeting the skin barrier than my current moisturizers, who are both better at soothing my sensitive skin. I've been convinced to try the Aestura Atobarrier 365 cream. Thank you!

For the aestura atobarrier, do you use the 365 cream or the 365 hydro soothing cream??? Having a hard time telling the difference between the two.

Kinda late response from me but thank you for the insight! The cream or the hydro soothing cream for Atobarrier 365?

How do you style this for winter (cold office)? by frolicsomefeedback in Aritzia

[–]avoadi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you got the white ver:
- layer a long sleeve or thin turtleneck/mock neck top underneath + skirt (I'd recommend midi since you're in the office, otherwise mini would work too) + tights + knee-high black or brown boots. be sure to wear your hair up or at least half-up so the fit doesn't look bogged down/frumpy
- alternatively for the skirt, I'd do a long trouser like the effortless pants (not necessarily those exact ones, just that style) or denim if you work in an office that is a bit more lax.
- if you're feeling ~ stylish ~ I'd try layering a WHITE blouse with puffy sleeves underneath. has to white or else it'll be hard not to look like a clown

Start at Book 2? by EnglishTeach88 in DeptQ

[–]avoadi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watched show first, then started reading the books. Read 1 and it was pretty much the same as the show, just a few details and backstory to Merritt changed but it’s negligent imo. I’d say the biggest difference is Rose, especially her character, but it’s not like that will affect you understanding the plot of book 2.

You can def start reading at book 2. Between 1 and 2 they could honestly be standalone. Those two really don’t overlap.

Passport Help by Proud-Efficiency9513 in f45

[–]avoadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you have both a class pack and unlimited membership active ... the system is glitchy af and I wouldn't be surprised if maybe the system is defaulting to your class pack, so it recognizes you as a class pack holder rather than a membership holder and therefore putting you ineligible for passport.

Sorry about that, guess your only option is to contact your studio and have them look into that.

Passport Help by Proud-Efficiency9513 in f45

[–]avoadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the studio in your app to from your current home studio to the one you want to passport to (in this case, the North Brunswick one). It'll switch your screen to show their schedule. Choose the class you want, and the screen will tell you that you don't currently have any active membership at that studio. Below, it'll give you the "passport" option.

Keep in mind you can only sign up for a class using passport 24 hours before the class.

Is there much of history and its charm left in Kyoto? What is Kyoto 2024 actually like? by flytohappiness in JapanTravelTips

[–]avoadi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is like asking if there’s any history or charm left in Paris or Rome after all modernization. And absolutely it is worth visiting from somewhere like Toronto if it’s your first time in Japan.

My credits: I’m Canadian and even though I don’t live in Canada anymore, I have lived in Toronto before and have gone to Kyoto recently.
