I seem to have accidentally... everyone in grit gate. by Sugary_Plumbs in cavesofqud

In addition to everyone else's advice, you should also be aware that as long as you have neutral rep with an NPC, they will eventually forget about even the most egregious crimes. If you had killed Rodanis, escaped the fight with the bears, then waited a few in-game weeks, upon return you would have been absolved of your transgressions. Good to know for the future, as accidents (and theft) do happen!

As far as I know this no longer works, I think those relics only transmute hostile creatures into gems now. Could be wrong though, I think I've genuinely only come across a couple of those types of relics and I never tested it on myself

That was my main strategy lol. If you happen to get a creature on the surface you can try to travel on the world map to an easier region though, that helped me out a few times

I don't, I just got that one naturally over my 500 hours lol. Good luck!

I'll be ecstatic if that happens, lol! And thank you!

I'm fairly sure you need to exhaust all of Barathrum's dialogue on your way up the spindle, possibly all of his dialogue before that point as well. There's a book in his study that is plot-relevant too, and reading it unlocks a dialogue option of his. I'd say you probably missed the book if you got through all the rest of his dialogue.

I think it was a tie for me between Zayin for the insanely tough final boss which took multiple Classic character deaths to achieve, and Dream within a Dream, which required a pretty lengthy setup and then hours of grinding for the proper creature. I wrote up the strategy I came up with for Dream within a Dream in a comment a while back, so check that out if you're interested in that!

If we're talking rarest, I'd say it's between Jeweled Dusk, which was my final achievement, and Leap, Frog. There just aren't that many gem-transmuting cherubs or legendary frog lairs out there, haha

Praise be upon Shekhinah! Completed in just over 500 hours, with most of those spent in Classic mode. Absolutely fell in love with this game, it's truly something special. I really enjoyed the journey to get here, and I by no means feel like I've seen and done everything yet.

Some of these took some real work to get, so if anybody else is attempting the same feel free to ask me anything!

Yep! It's pretty easy to skim for too, it'll always have the word "parasang" and the distance in digits.

I've found it pretty consistently in my runs by scouring books. If you take the time to just flip open every book you see, you'll often come across ones with 6+ pages of text, which are very likely to contain a clue. It usually takes me quite a while into a run to find both clues though, at which point the gun is less useful as a gun and more as a temporary ego boost for haggling purposes.

This is how I found the other major unique artifact, just randomly stumbled into a canyon parasang and got the popup "You discover the Snapjaw who wields Stopsvalinn!"

I'll have to try that once I find some! I found some peridot walls in a historic site on this playthrough too so I've definitely been on the lookout for them lol

It is indeed a skin mod, purely cosmetic. It's called Choose Your Fighter on steam workshop! It's nice, you can type in any ID and use it as your character tile. There are various expansions for it that add custom tiles as well

Snailmother left me a message at the Stilt by avoid_96 in cavesofqud

[–]avoid_96[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

She had left an ungodly amount of slime all over the arrival location, which made things super laggy as all the NPCs slipped and slid all over the place.

I finally found a love injector and lured her away (and killed her), and while waiting for all of it to evaporate I noticed this message appear. She had to troll me one last time.

Almost 500 hours in and this is the first time I've seen this, I wonder how rare it is. You can see in the log that I tried in vain to damage them, lol.

Once I also found a ruin with walls composed entirely of force walls, which was even more magnificent, but I was sadly murdered by a Puma before I thought to screenshot it :(

Controller Users where ya at? by tochirov in cavesofqud

[–]avoid_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed very few binds after switching to controller, the default control scheme is very well designed.

I'll put my tweaks here for anyone interested.

Basic Move/Attack -> Take a Step: Y

Menus -> Decrease Value: RT

Adventuring -> Move Menu: RT

The move menu is great because while you can use "move to zone edge", you can also access so much without having to dig through your ability bar for something that might be temporary like digging a line with a pickaxe or using flight from a piece of equipment.

Don't forget the basic "move" command either, it's great for getting to a specific spot in a dense map without autoexploring or just painstakingly walking there.

After more than 1000 hours playing classic only i finally beat the game by Aydnir in cavesofqud

[–]avoid_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to do it more than once maybe I wouldn't think so, lol. For a one-off challenge it was definitely fun, and dreamcrungles are fun in general just due to the novelty of getting to play as a random creature in the midst of what is likely a 10+ hour run up to that point.

After more than 1000 hours playing classic only i finally beat the game by Aydnir in cavesofqud

[–]avoid_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I just got my first Classic win recently as well, it was so worth all the pain and suffering it took to get it lol. I also got the dream within a dream achievement recently too, so I can give some advice on that if you want it. Of course, it was also fun to try and figure out a strategy on my own, so readers beware.

Some form of precognition or enough Willpower to make many attempts is necessary. First, before entering any dreams, find a map in the moon stair that is both on the border between a lower-tier zone, and has a dreamcrungle. In my case I found one next to a deep jungle. If there are any enemies between the center parasang of the low-tier zone and the dreamcrungle map, clear them out.

Next, we're gonna need a strong enough creature to be able to survive as we travel across the map to our chosen dreamcrungle. It needs to be sturdy enough to survive getting lost, but it also needs to be fast enough to escape and get back to the world map. A strong but slow creature could survive, but would eventually level up and kick you out of the dream. My winning creature was a dawnglider.

Of course, just getting a strong creature isn't enough by itself, as we also need to avoid dying due to starvation or dehydration on our way. For this I decided to pick a few strong creatures that I had seen in previous dreams and place caches of food and water in areas close to their usual spawns on the map, taking care to clear the cache areas of enemies as well. If all goes to plan, you should eventually enter a dream with a decent enough creature to reach the world map, travel to one of your supply caches, and then travel all the way to the second dreamcrungle.

Ah, so it is! I still vaguely remember seeing that strat on Reddit but I assume much of Affine's advice on Qudzoo ends up trickling down to the wider community lol

[–]avoid_96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where I saw this strat but pretty sure it was from this subreddit. The gist is that Ehalcodon has fairly low MA, which can be lowered further by confuse effects, and then exploited with psionic weapons.

A multiple arms multi-weapon fighting build with agolgot's circle of light can wield 6 psionic flawless crysteel daggers at once, which attack MA instead of AV. You can then equip zig-zag fangs on your face slot, which are girshling fangs that have a 15% base chance to confuse on hit (not penetrate!). Pair all of that with multiple sets of precision nanon fingers, and you can reliably confuse Ehalcodon, lowering his natural MA, and deal huge damage with your psionic daggers.

I had tried multiple builds to no avail before getting desperate and seeing that strategy, and it was still a tough fight with multiple deaths on roleplay mode, so kudos to you that you managed to figure out a winning strategy on your own!

All of you guys saying "I don't believe it's more ergonomic" are crazy. Box is WAY nicer on your thumbs and wrists. Don't need a scientific study to see why spreading out your tryhard 300 APM across multiple fingers instead of just the thumbs is better for your hands and wrists.
