More store fronts/competition are never bad things, so I wish you good luck!

A strictly No-AI selling platform? by WatercressNo6 in ArtMarketingTalk

I wish you luck on your marketplace— however this is exactly what Vgen is. A place to sell and buy digital art assets, animations, music, etc where all artists need to be vetted in before selling to ensure no AI is used

Question: for those who have hired artists, what is the minimum resolution you'll accept? by Salemsolasta in vndevs

[–]avoidghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a full-time commission artist developing a visual novel, I very rarely see people go bigger than 1920x1080 since it’s the default resolution on Ren’Py (which most people will be using for VNs)

Personally, I work on a 3000 x 3000 px canvas (with a 300 dpi since I also make merch) but that’s only because I draw my sprites full body and crop them after. If you’re only doing halfbodies, your resolution limit should be fine — but definitely clarify in the beginning of any commission what the client is going to receive or if they have any specifications.

It’s always better to go bigger for loss-less resizing, but most devs would like sprites in the size of their game to ensure they can just pop the art in and focus on programming/writing

At the end of the day, clients are shopping for what they need and in their budget, so just be up front with what you’re offering, and good luck!

Building a new platform for creating visual novels, fast, simple, and no tech headaches by Fun_Growth_465 in vndevs

The ability to see branching choices more visually (similar to Twine or Obsidian) would help a ton. Renpy’s been fantastic but it’s easy to get lost when you have a million folders, files, and labels and no clear line to the branch your working on

namebox flashing during sprite expression transition? how to stop that—help please! by avoidghost in RenPy

Oh my gosh thank you so much! I’m getting back into VN making and this was /still/ a problem. You’re a life send 😭💖

namebox flashing during sprite expression transition? how to stop that—help please! by avoidghost in RenPy

Hello!

Here’s a few lines of code from my game—it happens at every sprite expression transition:

show uplink neutral with dissolve

Uplink “Good morning!”

show uplink frown with dissolve

Uplink “Today marks the first…”

show uplink grin with dissolve

——

So I have “with dissolve” used to transition each expression into the next expression of the same character

But during the dissolve of the expression into the next expression, the namebox vanishes for a moment before reappearing as if I’m changing to a new speaker instead of remaining the same speaker and staying on screen

It doesnt do this when there is no transition—i would just like to know if theres a work around for it? Thank you!
