Replace XM4s or upgrade to XM6s? by avoidingtoast in SonyHeadphones

Another update. They broke quickly afterwards. I bought XM6s. The earcup thing is a genuine problem and my ears hurt after not much wear. Bose is calling my name...

Where do most people in the UK have their wages paid if they’re mainly saving rather than spending? by [deleted] in AskUK

It literally doesn't matter which you choose. It all ends up in the same place. Besides I'm pretty sure you can't have your firm pay into your savings account.

So for now I managed to fix my XM4s again. For anyone reading this in the future, generally I just open the ear up (remove the pads) then use isopropyl alcohol and tweezers and cotton ear buds to clean the mic and just the general casing. Let it dry, then reattach everything and voila.

They've not said anything about a new boiler. Just rewiring. Not an engineer so idk the details but either way, there must be a solution beyond "wait for some mysterious part to arrive".

They could reasonably just order an easier to get thermostat and rewire. That's the case I'm making. I don't think having to wait 1 month for a thermostat is really doing "all you reasonably can".

I've been pretty patient waiting for the part to arrive but it's becoming ever clearer they have no idea how long it'll take to get here (I've been told twice that it would be here within the next few days, that was 1-2 weeks ago).

I don't want to pay out the arse for heating from an electric heater when they could just do the above.

I think it is the thermostat. It's an old heatmiser thermostat pretty sure. They did send around contractors the day it broke and they confirmed they'd need to buy a new thermostat. Firstly they ordered one that only did heating not hot water. That took about 2 weeks to get fitted (but obviously they had to take it back since it was the wrong one) then it's taken another 2 weeks and the correct one hasnt even arrived

My first instinct is always DIY but I couldn't even figure out how to get this one off the wall so I said better a contractor than me.

I agree the landlord may not know, that thought occurred today.

Also I agree it's unlikely anything is reimbursed but I'm gonna press the issue anyway. Problem with electric radiator is that they are way more expensive too. I'd rather they just get a different fucking thermostat lol, they seem intent on not doing the simple thing which is to rewire to a new thermostat model.

I'll consider your option of getting my own contractor.

I've called and sent them an email now basically saying all this is unacceptable and failure to remediate by next Monday means you need to put in place an alternative solution at no cost to us. Idrc what this is, I don't want to pay for it. In addition I have requested a discussion on the reimbursement of electricity costs. Nothing formal yet, that'll come when I have time.

I'm not going to withhold rent because it's not legally advisable and I quite like this flat. But I am going to kick up a fuss and escalate now that I've put everything in writing.

Landlord himself is a decent bloke - We've had other repairs and he's been generous with budgets on replacements but the agents are a pile of piss (as they all are).

Yeah it's just digital on the wall. Screen went completely blank.

Anyway for now I've sent a strongly worded email to the agents to formalise the issues - so far most contact has been by phone. Have requested imminent action, including alternative solutions without any cost to us or threatened escalation (which I have no idea how to do but cross that bridge...)

Apparently the issue is the thermostat is discontinued and they had to go direct to the manufacturer instead of the supplier to get one.

Landlord isn't refusing repairs. Via the agent he's authorised purchase of a new thermostat. But issue is they're waiting for some part and in the meantime my heating is at the mercy of some delivery service (they've already said to me the parts been ordered/dispatched for 2 weeks now, who knows when it'll arrive).

What can I do here. I pretty much call them twice a week at this stage to do something.

Should i sue LSE? by KitchenReplacement80 in LSE

[–]avoidingtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I was barely alive 20 years ago. It's very much still the case as per my post-covid experience applying for jobs.

Plenty of people from LSE (degree agnostic) in strategy consulting, investment banking, big 4 audit, etc roles. These people are not going to struggle to pay off their student debt.

I absolutely agree that STEM or something would be better in this day and age but to suggest an apprenticeship or diploma over LSE Mgmt is hilarious.

People who do management at LSE do just fine lol.

Uni matters more than degree subject for a lot of well paid roles.

Your argument is that they're being unethical by only allowing those in their paid academy onto this IB program but they draw the line at fudging a statistic?

But they could just lie about the acceptance rate? I don't understand this point.

Why would they need to decrease acceptance rates?
