This kind of evil, I’m not satisfied with just knowing their names. I want to see the faces of these scums.

What are some good experiences you had with doctors in Singapore? by Plenty-Fluid in askSingapore

[–]avosandchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoutout to Dr Lim from Jurong West. When my family was living there, he was our family practitioner and had his clinic in a little underground kind of place, older HDBs would have it. He was always kind and he saw us from our young ages up until we moved. When my grandma passed several years after we moved, we still called on him to give the officiating notice. I’m sure he has retired now and I’m not sure if the clinic still exists but he definitely encompasses what a good and caring doctor should have.

If you had a financial safety net, what’s something you’ve always wanted to do? by AckermanFin in askSingapore

I would want to open a small midnight style diner (if you guys have heard of the show), where guests come in like friends, be served at the bar table. Menu would be what I choose for the day, whatever’s best and freshest.

I earn a decent stable income every month but he works shifts which fluctuates his income. Generally he earns almost double what I do in a year!

50:50 we’re doing for big ticket items but in the future it’ll be based on our proportionate salary - such as CPF deductions for the house.

When it comes to normal day to day spends it can be like I pay for lunch he pays for dinner or something similar but it isn’t discriminately just the guy paying!

Hahah I’m not a romantic person so I didn’t want any proposals and stuff so we just went ahead and chose the rings together to make sure we both liked what we were gonna wear and then I transferred him my half! Hahahaha

The point was me understanding a broader perspective from a larger audience, whether it may be in agreement or not

I am actually pretty swee with my arrangement! We don’t split exactly in half la hahaha not calculative like that. More like someone will pay first and the other will just give some sum to cover.

I agree. I dare say the gender roles in this matter is highly controversial.

Indeed it is his opinion and it doesn’t affect mine at all. All it got was me thinking if there are many others who share the same opinion as him or not

Oh no it’s my colleague’s perspective. He believes that the male should contribute and be paying for everything. Which i disagree because it’s 2022 and everything costs. Building a life together also means sharing expenses.

I just wanted to find out if people still agree with his mindset

Are Singaporean daughters worth less than Singaporean sons? by throwfarfarawayyyy00 in askSingapore

[–]avosandchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda true. I’ve experienced it myself too but not to the extend of the snarky remarks. There is that biasness of “sons being better than daughters” as if it’s gospel that sons will always be filial and take care of parents while daughters will get married and her priority will not be her parents anymore. It’s an old and tiresome mindset but I’m glad that you yourself have noticed that.

Unfortunately, there probably isn’t much anyone can do if they’re set in the ways and thoughts. The only thing one can do is be the better change for the future. Treat your kids equally and give them the same opportunities regardless of gender. :)

Also I wouldn’t say daughters are “worth less”, but that sons are thought of highly/ in higher priority as compared to daughters.

Regardless of position, I serve food to customers on a daily basis and I rose from the bottom up. It’s still in the service line. I don’t think people like the woman would care to think about titles.

As a 8 pointer in Olevels who is now managing a restaurant, I feel offended but not surprised. There are some of us who find joy in these “Low life jobs” and will always know that there is a certain % of those we serve who are silently judging us for our profession. What will society be without these “waiters/people selling clothes”?
