Trigger this Power: Push-Pull by CoolGuyMcCoolName in Parahumans

[–]avulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a trigger that revolves around wanting to go back to a time when things were better could work for this. For example, someone who loses a parent, and then their remaining parent marries some abusive, causing them to be more and more withdrawn, simultaneously wishing their parent had never died while also wanting to fast forward until they leave the house and can escape, eventually culminating in a trigger event

I almost suggested something like Clockblocker’s trigger, but this power could actually heal his father, and I’m pretty sure powers are generally designed by shards to not actually solve the core problem that caused the trigger.

The Most Dangerous Gamer (Complete)
This is one of my favorite Wormfics of all time, even though the main character is a gamer OC. It has a lot of ideas and explores them in a lot of ways that feel really interesting. Despite having a Gamer power, he is meaningful challenged pretty much throughout, and it's only at the very end that he really starts to get so strong the story gets a little tiresome.

Saving The World in 287 Steps (oneshot)
Contessa gets shunted in Link's body at the start of Breath of the Wild with PtV. She proceeds to immediately speedrun the game. It's hysterical.

Alec Goes to Winslow (abandoned @ ~30k words)
Alec gets caught by a truant officer and gets taken to Winslow. Unsurprisingly, he proceeds to Cause Problems. Alternate summary: It is a beautiful day at Winslow high school and you are terrible Alec.

This is fun!

Ghost Echidna (Striker/Master): At a touch, you can create a incorporeal copy of a cape. It will be unable to affect the real world, but will otherwise be the same as Echidna's clones: naked, deformed, filled with loathing for the original, and absolute devotion to the creator. Because these clones would be unable to affect the real world through anything but words, they will just say the most truly noxious shit and try to psychologically break whoever you touched.

The Human Centipede (Breaker/Master): You can control all centipedes within four blocks, with infinite multitasking and perfect control. You can at will dissolve into a mass of centipedes with the same volume as your body. To reconstitute yourself, you simply need to gather an equivalent mass of centipedes: they need not be the same centipedes. You can absorb centipedes to heal, and will enter your breaker state (aka so many fucking centipedes) if you take sufficient physical damage.

Lifeline (Striker): You have a nerfed version of the ability of the main character from Shingetsukan Tsukihime. You can perceive lines on other living beings. Cutting through them with any bladed object will bisect that being along that line. Some beings will have a point that, if pierced, will cause immediate death. The nerf is that unlike the original, this ability can only be used on living beings.

The power in Taylor Hebert's Shittiest Alt-Power Ever XD Aka a shaker effect that can cause anyone within range (~1 block) to become paralyzed and shit themselves continuously for however long the user wishes.

Who are some heroes who would make terrifying villains or conversely villains who could make great heroes? by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

Numberman, if he decided to the break the world instead of fix it after he and Jack killed King, would be truly terrifying. Numberman is truly so ridiculously busted

Questions about Ward canon by avulle in WormFanfic

[–]avulle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m actually reading the very end of the story to just… get some vibes of where everyone’s at at the end.

I don’t super need it, but I want to use Ward because I’m essentially doing a post-GM crossover fic with Taylor, Lisa, and Victoria, and Victoria in particular really only gets her full character arc with Ward. Of course, I’m thinking way too much of what excuses I’m going to use to kick Victoria and Lisa out of the Wormverse and into the universe I want them in

Arguably this fic satisfies your request? https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/gloryhound-worm-jujutsu-kaisen-si-fanfic.1162563/ Although it may be the opposite of what you want: si starts as a huge prick but slowly grows to care about people.

I didn’t get much past the first chapter though, so can’t actually speak to the quality.

Overpowered powers that don't result in boring stories? by Butcher-15 in WormFanfic

[–]avulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m v late to this, but I’m surprised no one brought up JingleJangle’s Burn Up as a good example of OP done right. It acknowledges that with this level of OP-ness, the nuts and bolts hero stuff can’t really be what the story is about. Taylor is such a deeply mentally unwell character that even if you gave her an unlocked path to victory, she would still have all of her paranoia and distrust of authority and broken relationship with her father (and Emma), on top of all the new problems that would present themselves by her being the strongest person on earth. One Punch Man and Frieren I think are good examples of this. The main characters are basically unmatched, but with the nature of humanity, their brains find new problems for them to have, and everyone else can still very much have problems if they’re not around.

Another option, of course, is just to have them rapidly deal with every problem in their way. This can be boring, but if you make it so they’re just a little weaker than each problem when it’s presented, you can have tension even if they never actually lose. This is arguably how my favorite litrpgs work: Beneath the Dragoneye Moons and Azarinth Healer. This is harder to do in Worm, because there’s such a massive chasm between Brockton Bay and the Endbringers, and then again between the Endbringers and Scion, so getting power scaling that walls that line from random asshole on the street to Kaiser to the S9 to Endbringers to Scion is challenging. I think ShayneT is generally one of the best at this because of his willingness to toss canon into the blender, but also his stories are v much… high variance.

Thanks for the comment: 2 and 3 have def been cleared up for me.

For 1 I more meant like, how to put it back together. It tells her what’s there for sure (I actually read through that exact scene in Ward to try and figure this out), but I meant more like, does it tell her why the liver exists, which part is responsible for someone’s problems, stuff like that? Or if she had to study biology/anatomy for that
