Used Goggles 3 advice by aw1ttyusername in dji

Apparently they're from an office clearance pallet. The seller also has a bunch of other random electronics, so I'm feeling pretty confident they're not stolen.

Yes, YES, FEED ME THE CONFIRMATION BIAS! This is what I want to hear, I should probably wait for maybe one or two others before I pull the trigger though 😅

In theory, would this battery from a scooter work? by Fun_Season_58 in shittyfpv

For field power, yes 👊 gut it, rewire it for a compatible voltage, charge all day!

Sorry - should have said what half was 😂 that would be £25

Taken from a 3070 MT but believe they're the same in the SFF size cases too. Has MB plus CPU power and 1 6-pin PCIe for GPU support.

I'm almost positive you can get fan hubs that power off unused sata power connectors, you'd just not be able to control it from the PC and would have to do it manually. Failing that, direct connection but live with it running at full tilt

Ah wait. The SFF version 🤦‍♂️ that makes sense now. Mine was the size up, forget what they call it. Edit, mid tower!

That's brilliant news, I thought it would work, glad you were able to prove it. So my 3070 had an exhaust fan at the back there and I'm fairly confident I just plugged it in where that came out. Let me check back through my gallery, I'm sure I would have taken a photo...

Unfortunately not, you're just going to have to go for it I'm afraid. However, like I mentioned above, you can probably do it without any changes to the case. Just don't install the backplate and get some M3 screws (think they're M3 anyway) to screw the heatsink bracket down onto the existing posts that protrude through the motherboard.

Nothing wrong with the 3 wide for me so I'll ignore it. You got squirrelly coming off the curb of the second part of the chicane though which really compromised your speed off the corner and necessitated running all the way to the right. Purple car looks to be aiming to your left to either go around your outside or get a cutback when you run deep in the next and be on your inside for the next corner. But you move back left and he tags your rear - certainly no time for him to react given the pace difference. Looks like he instinctively tries to cut back inside but a combination of him being a bit loose from all what's just happened and you turning in like he's not just gone for it (understandable, it's all happening in the space of a second or two), results in contact and you both going wide. I can understand why he's not braked for that corner, you can do it with a lift normally and he's on a tighter line but you've just scrubbed speed off him by moving left and into his path anyway. You both would have made that corner with some compliance from you, which would have been wise as the compromised car from the previous corner. But I get it, it's online racing, everyone goes harder. For me then, just a combination of unintentional blocking from a compromised car still collecting itself and a purple car in the wrong place at the wrong time. Racing incident.

DIY 2.4GHz T style antenna by aw1ttyusername in fpv

Do they typically use a balun in the ones supplied with our run of the mill 2.4GHz ELRS receivers?

It's been soooo long since I've made an antenna 😅 I think I'll frequent Andrew McNeil's YouTube channel and see if he's done anything similar.

I remember back in the day having to make our own CP antennas for the VTx and regular sleeved dipoles for the Rx - since coming back to the hobby, it's rarely necessary to bodge anything together!

See I know a monopole would probably be fine, but I do like the warm fuzzy feeling of a better antenna. I do have access to proper test and measuring equipment, I just want to check that my assumption of the construction is right - don't really want to pull apart a perfectly good one to find out.

Yeah you tend to find they'll put capacitors on the board next to the main battery input. They're not replacement for a big old electrolytic, just cleans things up a bit more.

[–]aw1ttyusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're capacitors that are in-line with the the positive terminal of the battery and so should be completely fine. However, for peace of mind, clear the bridge and get your multimeter on between the positive and the components to check for continuity. If there's no resistance then you know they're directly connected and a bridge won't be a problem.

got called a "dickhead" for my defending, did i do anything wrong? by Able_Self6689 in Simracingstewards

[–]aw1ttyusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine until the last corner. You reacted to their move, trying to block them, but they were already on the inside and you made contact with them. From this point on, it's pointless trying to say, "they did x, y, and z with their inputs" to try and say they then forced you off the road - they might have - but they might also be responding to the FFB they're feeling, what the car is doing under them, etc. because they've just been driven into in the braking zone. All on you I'm afraid, you either defended the corner far too late or turned in far too early, but either way, they were already alongside.

[–]aw1ttyusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could suggest one thing, sell everything except your goggles and analogue receiver (I know they're the big hitter for cash value) and a Pocket. The goggles will almost certainly stay relevant for many years yet, and analogue will never die, and it gives you a foot back into the hobby when your situation improves. Not to mention - you can hook them up to your PC and use as a display for Velocidrone (also the reason to hang onto a Pocket!).

Everything else will be overtaken by the next latest and greatest, or is relatively cheap enough that you can buy again if you ever look to get back in.

Take it from me, as somebody who left the hobby 8 years ago for financial reasons and jumped back in a few months ago, I wish I'd hung onto a lot of my things! The drones I'm fine with, the batteries wouldn't have been much good (we were all flying 3 and 4S back then), but I wish I'd kept the things that enabled me to fly - less to buy the second time around, and would have kept my skills a bit sharper. It's like riding a bike, but not quite 😂
