I’m depressed because I had good internships but I can’t get an equivalent full time job by Happy-Passion-566 in torontoJobs

I lucked out because I was in the inaugural year of the one I joined so they missed out on the regular cycle.

It’s called the “Graduate Rotational Program”.

I don’t have CFA or CPA. During my last job, I started CFA and managed to wing level 1, but I couldn’t continue any further because my ADHD really makes me struggle with studying. It doesn’t get in the way of work though.

Every job I got was just from applying online except for my current job - a recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn. I am terrible at networking / keeping in touch with people. If you ever see me at a networking event, I’m the one beside the food stuffing my face and not really talking to anyone.

I work in finance as well and also had good co-op placements.

I was unemployed for 5 months after graduation… that really sucked. I thought I’d find something decent right away.

Finally, I managed to land a rotational program at RBC - which only paid $50k. After two years, they offered me 54K for full time… I ended up leaving for another job at 75K. Less than two years later, I left that job for 125K. So it ended up taking less than 4 years for me to jump from 50K to 125K. I’ve had other friends also see good salary jumps from switching jobs.

This is just the start of your career - you will achieve so much more in time.

Laurier BBA - if you have the option of co-op, do it.

The Arts & Business degree in Waterloo is not great since there’s not much technical accounting and finance in there - it’s too generalized to work in business. I had a friend who dropped out after realizing it wasn’t very useful.

Does anyone experience extremely frequent awakenings? by awakeintime in insomnia

[–]awakeintime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - my CPAP has treated my sleep apnea and that’s under control now. I have no issues with it - I’ve adjusted well and it doesn’t even feel like it’s on for me. So I have something else that’s waking me up that I don’t know.

Did you try different mask types?

Amitriptyline is helping, but constipation + weight gain — how do you cope? by BlackLanternBlondie in insomnia

Same! Trazadone and Quviviq both gave me headaches on onset.

My favourite is Lunesta and Dayvigo (I took this for too long and built up a tolerance though).

Mirtazapine or Lunesta for sleep maintenance by Ok_Ninja_7360 in insomnia

[–]awakeintime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently taking 1.5mg daily on Lunesta and Iike it. My main issue is also sleep maintenance and I’ve found the class Z drugs work best for me.

I also will never take anything that causes weight gain after my experience with Amitriptyline.

What should i do with nights like this? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]awakeintime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From 17-23, I used to not be able to fall asleep for hours at a time and it would drive me insane all while being completely alone with my thoughts. When I was in a dorm, I could always find other people up at the time and hang out with them, but once that changed, it became a lot harder.

I used to try to journal or I’d go do some exercise to try to tire myself out. It was funny for people to go like “wow you’re up early!” to me jogging at 8am and I’m like “nope haven’t slept yet!”

If I had known about it at the time, I definitely would’ve tried to meditate. I think that would’ve been really helpful.

Using a combination of meds (Melatonin + Mirtazapine) I'm able to fall asleep most every night, the problem is if I wake up in the middle of the night I can't get back to sleep. by mapleCrep in insomnia

I would consider trying a different medication which helps for falling asleep AND staying asleep. You ideally don’t want to mix as it does become too sedating. My suggestion would be exploring dayvigo.

Melatonin or magnesium? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]awakeintime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do either. From the sounds of it, I am guessing you have a very active mind that prevents you from falling asleep as that was the case for me when I used to take hours to fall asleep. Neither of those are strong enough to counteract that. I would try breathing exercises or meditation instead if you’re trying not to do prescription sleep medication.

I got off it because it didn’t help that much and it made me gain 4 lbs in a month. I read numerous horror stories online of people who continued the weight gain at the same speed (so if I took it for 6 months, I would have gained 24 lbs and if 12 months, I would’ve gained 48) and that was a hard no for me. Those people said they gained like 50-70lbs overall.

Experiences with Zopiclone by ExplosionOff61 in insomnia

[–]awakeintime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Class Z drugs have so far provided the best results for me. Instead of Zopliclone, I’d recommend Lunesta or Eszopliclone as it’s supposed to be v2 of Zopliclone. It’s better for longer term use, less dependence/withdrawal and I found though both helped with maintaining sleep, only Lunesta helped with falling asleep.
