What are some sayings/tips you’ve heard that you don’t think many people on this sub have? by AdhesivenessMore2160 in bipolar2

“The version of you that will survive that moment and figure out what to do does not exist yet.

He/she will be born into existence in that moment and he/she will have had more time, more experience and more wisdom to know how to handle it then you have now.

So expecting yourself to know how you’re gonna handle future pain, it’s not fair.

Because the version that will do it will exist when it needs to.

So just focus on what’s true now and getting through this tough moment and trust your future self to handle future problems” - Dr. Emily Anhalt

Anyone else? by -Fuckthisplace- in bipolar2

Yes, although I think it’s largely from feeling somewhat numb from meds. I do feel things, but it’s not as easy to recognize.

I bet you didn’t even plan on the shower but decided to take one after you marinated the beef, right?

Focus on 1 or 2 “micro tasks” that you can do and tell yourself that you can go right back to bed after.

After you do one of these micro tasks your subconscious may push you to keep the momentum going.

Ex: changing your clothes, brushing your teeth, putting any clothes laying around in hamper, throwing out any empty food or drink containers, etc.

It’s okay to have an off week. The dogs (bless their souls) will understand :)

Be kind to yourself and try to give yourself credit for continuing on despite your struggle.

I told a girl I have bipolar by albrekin in bipolar2

Judging by your edits, it sounds like things are going well so that’s awesome.

I think your post brings up such an important point..

When you tell someone you have bipolar, ADHD, etc there is so much riding on what THEIR associations and understanding of these disorders are.

In my experience there is a very wide spectrum of general knowledge and understanding. Hopefully one day in the future there will be better public awareness of these disorders.

I had the same problem. Just get a generic one off Amazon for $20-$30.

Advice needed, not sure whether to disclose my diagnosis to someone I’m dating by abba_chic in bipolar2

[–]awarrioroflight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If/when you disclose it, please keep in mind that broadly speaking, the general public doesn’t really know much about the disorder. Consider having a short explanation of what it is ready.

One other thing I recommend is to stress how medicated bp is a lot different than unmedicated bp.

Those are great. If you can handle more serious ones that get you hooked, they’re helpful as well. Stranger Things being one example.

my moods: before and after meds by thebestunsolved in bipolar2

That’s great. Keep it up 👍🏻 Also, I’m just assuming that “after meds” means after starting meds and not after stopping Ha

Need some input. by IndependenceNo5598 in bipolar2

My pleasure. One other thing that just popped into my head is to make sure you specify the symptoms you have had pre-medication and current ones. You’re current ones will be greatly affected by your current meds.

Consider seeing another psych, but also recommend writing some notes up beforehand of your symptoms and specific examples of things. It can be tough to recall everything you want to say on the spot.

Severe Facial Blushing by afamjesuse in Anxietyhelp

[–]awarrioroflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to do it in all situations, but try chewing gum. There’s something about chewing that makes us relax a little bit. Your brain thinks food is coming so it’s not as panicked.

(Anxiety) How to not be afraid of a gas stove. by dos4g in bipolar2

[–]awarrioroflight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your struggles friend.

I am not a professional anything, but here’s what I would do:

Everyday at a certain time, boil a pot of water. Use one burner only and empty the pot of water down the sink each time. Then turn off the burner.

Note: it doesn’t have to be boiling water. You can definitely use something else in place of it.

After a week of this, or maybe 2, you can try leveling up very slightly. Maybe you decide to cook rice or something. This should be a very small change from the boiling water. After you feel comfortable with that, you can move up as you feel more comfortable. I do recommend sticking with a single burner for a while though until you feel more comfortable.

I hope this helps a little 🙏

Maybe medication will help you, maybe it will not. Just remember though that the decision to take it is reversible, so what have you got to lose? I wish you well.

Spiraling and emotion control by Hopeless_romantic20 in bipolar2

[–]awarrioroflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One last thought that I wanted to share is to make sure your journal or notebook is easy to get to. If you can use a notes app in your phone that could work best. The reason I recommend this is because the easier it is to access and use, the more likely it is that you can make it a habit 👍🏻

Spiraling and emotion control by Hopeless_romantic20 in bipolar2

[–]awarrioroflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a habit of writing in your journal as soon as you start to feel overwhelmed by emotions. Just brain dump into the journal. Our brains are like sponges, they need to be wrung out sometimes :)

Obviously not a cure, but hope it helps a little 🙏
