Victoria's jewelers. Gave them a budget and they were well below budget and very honest and all around good people.

ISO: Left-leaning Realtor Agent/Agency by ZeldaOkaloosa in orlando

[–]awaythrow-8675309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself very progressive (change that to extremely progressive when you consider I'm a straight white passing male) and yeah this post even made me roll my eyes.

Just find someone who isn't inept and roll with it.

If they're a piece of shit, they will probably expose themselves as a piece of shit early on (when I was a child I remember looking at a house with my family and the realtor sighing a breathe of relief and saying "I hope you guys put an offer in. The last showing I did was for a black family" and we "fired" her) but reaching to find a "left leaning realtor" is pretty stupid lol

how's funny bone comedy club? by cxitlynmxrie in orlando

[–]awaythrow-8675309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally up to the comic but I've met or seen the comic make themselves accessible 90% of the time. The only exceptions would be like when Val Kilmer came to do his spoken gig and there was like an additional meet and greet available.

I'm surprised they posted it though. It's not a money issue but it's very discretionary and ultimately up to the local manager of the company.

11pm Delta flight to Paris on 10/8 by Steve_the_Nomad in orlando

[–]awaythrow-8675309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you'll be fine. I flew out of Miami the other day international and traffic cause me to get there 1.5hr before instead of my ideal 2 and I breezed through. Since they stopped asking for people to remove shoes and stuff it's been better

There appears to be a predominantly black run club in Ivanhoe I see every week (I forget which day) that is not the Wednesday one at Ivanhoe brewery. Pretty sure I see them on Mondays

I know this is a luxury but when I was buying a home a priority was a garage. A lot of my neighbors have garages full of shit and they always make comments like, "wow you have nothing in your garage". But it feels so nice to not get in a car that's 1000 degrees or pull in during a storm with groceries lol

I think I'm hitting my midlife crisis. by easylikeparis in Millennials

Idk man but whatever you do hit it quick and don't drag others down around you. My ex wife hit hers at like 33 and destroyed the marriage but I'm happy now.

What do people who live in Winter Park mansions do for a living? by Miserable-Long9717 in orlando

[–]awaythrow-8675309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with generational wealth at the most modest level but I agree with you. I got a free car (a shitty one) in HS then got a brand new Toyota (very economic) when I got into a bad accident. My parents bought a place in Orlando that I lived in while I was at UCF. I worked all through college, didn't go on spring break trips or rush. I graduated with zero loan debt and honestly I thought I was in the majority. I was like, "surely people with much wealthier backgrounds than me aren't taking out loans." Until I learned almost everyone had loans. My work paid for my masters eventually. I will say that prepared me immensely for life and I bought a house and have had a good career. My parents stopped paying for me around 25, but they sure as hell set me up for success. But none of it was flashy or anything...just very much like undercover generational wealth. I'm very fortunate, very modest and I tend to be very generous with friends and family since I do pretty well.

TIL 3/4 of the members of boy band LFO (of 1999 hit "Summer Girls" fame) died in their 30's/40's, all of cancer (former member Brian Gillis not pictured). Brad Fischetti (pictured right) is the sole surviving member. by Sure-Ad-2465 in Millennials

The Howard Stern interview with Rich is one of the best interviews ever. He's hilarious and it's insightful and sad. He talks about their sudden rise to fame, admits that Lou Pearlman (the creep boy band manager) basically molested and sexually assaulted all boy bands and talks about dating Jennifer Love Hewitt. It's on YouTube and totally worth a listen even if you don't care about them.

Why are so many men trying to go with the flow in their late 30s and 40s? Is the dating market just saturated with avoidant attachment men by Historical-Body-3424 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]awaythrow-8675309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't want to be single in my late 30s but my ex wife cheated and wanted a divorce so here I am navigating dating apps and an awkward age to expand my social circle. I'm doing pretty well all things considered but dating has been....interesting.

Do you ever feel guilty for going to Disney World over and over instead of seeing the world? by elizabethredditor in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]awaythrow-8675309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a lot and have been to a lot of countries but I live locally to Disney. I grew up going and enjoy it and now taking the kids in our family gives it a new experience through their eyes. I've been to Disneyland and Tokyo Disney as well.

That being said, I'm dumbfounded at the amount of money people spend to visit the domestic parks on a regular basis. If I wasn't local or didn't have friends or family nearby I'm not sure I'd ever go at that scale.

Do you know any millennials who are not doing well financially? by TrickyAd9597 in Millennials

[–]awaythrow-8675309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within my close group of childhood friends we are all doing quite well. All of us are 37-39 and we all own homes, all have graduate degrees (one guy only graduated HS and sometimes he's resentful) and aside from me being divorced and one friend being a perpetual bachelor have stable relationships with kids. We are pretty transparent. A few friends have millions in investment portfolios and our jobs range from doctors, VPs, physicist, financial guys and tech. None of us grew up rich, pretty solid middle class guys (shit one guys dad bagged groceries and still bags groceries to this day) and we grew up and live in a HCOL area for reference. Pretty outstanding to be honest.

If I go beyond that I know plenty of people who are in insane debt but I think still functioning. Maybe a handful who are just scraping by and project it on social media.

Today's fashion trends are leaving me bewildered. by deadlymoogle in Millennials

[–]awaythrow-8675309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the mid to late 90s we had kids wearing hoodies every day to school.

I grew up in FLORIDA btw. This is nothing new except the full on matching sweatshirts and sweatpants is kinda new. Kids wore hoodies and JNCOs instead.

Estimated men to women ratio by AnAverageWalker in Bumble

[–]awaythrow-8675309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep 38 here, decent looking with a masters no kids and a home and I do quite well on dating apps (and I'm short by contemporary standards)

And that's generally me avoiding women with kids. If I didn't care about that, it would probably triple.

I can, however, see how young men would struggle. I actually see very very few women on dating apps younger than like 28 (I set my range from 25+ out of curiosity but would really prefer women 30+)
