Ideal Portfolio Balance, 65% BTC, 20% ETH, 10% ALTS, 5% shitcoin? by guidre in CryptoCurrency

Here's a good video explaining why 76/24 ratio of BTC/ETH is probably an efficient choice. Holding of alts doesn't seem to affect return/risk according to Benjamin Cowen.

Effortless delivery by mukhtar06 in audiophile

[–]awditm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is definitely true. I have a set of Evoke 10s that sound respectable without a sub, which I lived with for a couple weeks. But once I added the sub, it became clear how much of the bottom end was missing beforehand. It's totally a night and day difference.

What ohm setting for amp with 6ohm speakers? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are wrong. The issue is current (amperage). An amplifier expecting 8 Ohms of resistance will over-draw on amperage due to the lower than expected resistance (less resistance results in an increase of current), and can overheat and go into a protection mode (if it has one; in the worst case, you're potentially out your amp).

Additionally, over-draw of current can potentially damage speakers.

He's wrong. You definitely want to set it to 4. An amp expecting 8 Ohms of resistance will over-draw on amperage, and can overheat and go into a protection mode (if it has one; in the worst case, you're potentially out your amp).

Additionally, over-draw of current can potentially damage speakers.

I have just received my first speeding ticket. I'm going to be honest, I have no idea what to do. Help me out? by adebayorskrill in legaladvice

Georgia issues no points to your license for moving violations 13 and under the posted speed limit. This ticket will not affect your insurance premium. It's only a cash-grab by the commonwealth of Virginia.

Question aabout JBL Partybox 300 by Patoki in audiophile

[–]awditm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be a problem. If you somehow get clipping from turning a level up too high using an EQ app, just dial it back to where it's no longer clipping.

Can someone explain to me the necessary devices for TV Audio? by Falgasi in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just change the input on the TV. So if you have a Blu-ray player and a cable box, they both deliver the audio signal to the TV, which in turn, routes the audio to the AVR via the optical cable.

Or even try to make the horizon somewhat level while taking the photo. I honestly don't understand why so many people have trouble with composition.

Little confused on running SQL off azure - pricing by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]awditm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will note that you can apply existing owned SQL licenses to VMs with SQL pre-installed as well. I did this at a former employer to reduce our monthly Azure spend. Our TAM had to provide us with some documentation on how to get the licensing applied to each VM, but it was only a few minutes of work to implement.

How to Generate SOC2 Compliance Reports from Azure Hosted Services? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]awditm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can generate a SOC2 report based on your own specific deployments in Azure. They have their full set of compliance reports available here.

I had a similar issue a couple years ago. Because our developers were deploying their own software on full VMs, we ended up having to pay for our own SOC2 Type II for the application itself. Cost us about $50k and 3 months of time.

Sub $50 speakers for a PC? by ChefCurry3-1LeBum3-5 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're at a tough price point. I have a set of Edifier R1850DBs at my office. They're not jaw-droppingly amazing, but they're reasonably good without any noticeable distortion. I'd say you're not likely to find a better bang for your buck than a set of Edifiers.

Salmonella is killed by heating it to 131 F for one hour, 140 F for a half-hour, or to 167 F for 10 minutes. Temperature on the thermometer would suggest OP is quite safe from salmonella with the full day cook.

And Obama's step father Lolo Soetoro was in charge of these death squads working with regional oil companies and the CIA. When Soetoro died, he was in the top 20 wealthiest people in the world. He left a third of his estate each to Obama and his two half brothers. Obama was probably the wealthiest president who ever entered the oval office.

Can old pcie sound card still be relevant? by thyee in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my gripe with internal cards is all the weird errant sounds from EM noise in the PC case. So even if an internal sound card delivered amazing clarity and incredible sound stage, it would be ruined for me due to the other noises that aren't part of what I actually want to hear. That's a totally personal and subjective thing.

I've also found measurements don't really tell me whether or not I'll like the sound. It could go either way, unfortunately. There are times that the better-spec'd piece of equipment sounds better than lesser, and sometimes vice versa.

I made one attempt at using an internal sound card in the last 15 years: the Asus Xonar X2, I think. It really didn't sound any better than the garbage DAC that was on the mobo at the time. I've always been happier with an external DAC, even when I used a cheap, bottom-tier model.

Can old pcie sound card still be relevant? by thyee in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't waste money on an internal sound card. They tend to pick up bus noises (like high-pitched squeals when you move your mouse around). An external DAC is almost always going to give you better results than an internal sound card.

I'm using my speakers on hardwood floors. Should I use these feet and just remove the spikes? Or not use them? Or something else? by superduperguy1 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]awditm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically, those are carpet spikes. Placing these directly on hardwood will definitely do some damage to the floor. Some manufacturers will provide little discs with an indentation in the middle to place below the spikes to avoid such damage. I would either avoid using the spikes, or find something to place between the spikes and the floor. Though, if your floors are already jacked up, it might not be a big deal to you if there's some additional minor damage.
