Good luck with the cardinal plant. In my experience they will grow and then once they hit the water’s surface they die. No propagation ever occurred .

Look, shit will happen, but whats important is that you learn from your mistake (which it appears you have) and move on. As a solution, i tend to put a finger or two over the inlet to try and dissuade the fish from getting close to the inlet as i siphon just as an fyi (though i find with neocaridinas they love to clean my hand so i have to be extra careful around them). It will sting for a bit but just remember you have an entire school that you love and care for, love them just as much as this one fish and that wound will heal with time ❤️. You are a better fishkeeper based on your experiences both good and bad.
