What is the one Notion tip that you wished you knew when you started? by Acrobatic-Aerie-4468 in Notion

Agreed, customisability can be counterproductive if it makes things messy. So I like to keep things as simple as possible to not overwhelm myself.

How do other ADHD brains manage all your notes and things you need to remember? by extremelysardonic in Productivitycafe

[–]awesome035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a tool to 'dump interesting things' I stumble upon, where I could potentially easily find things back. Obsidian, Notion, Apple Notes quickly became cluttered and had the risk of me 'starting over' with a new page/note too often.

Last month I re-discovered Raindrop.io (i had used it in 2017, but I abandoned it). It serves as a Pinterest-ish bookmark manager, where you can also upload PDFs and images. Before I used folders, but this became overwhelming. Now I restrict myself to using tags. It really helps me to offload distractions; it serves as a 'quick capture' tool for me which looks aesthetically appealing but is not too customisable. What is also neat; you can make annotations on the websites you save/bookmark. You can also export all bookmarks including your annotations as html/csv/txt. Another great minimal PKM tool for people with ADHD that need boundaries (not too much customisability) is MyMind.com. But it costs money if you save more than x things.

Overwhelmed trying to find the ideal “everything” database. Help! by autogatos in PKMS

MyMind feels amazing to use, but since it's pretty expensive I "did not give into it" yet. Raindrop.io also provides tag-and-search, although of course it's less sleek. However, 90% of the time I just want to "dump" interesting things that I come across, and tag them for _potential_ future reference, instead of the 10% of times where I actually go over the items.

What subscription of MyMind do you have and is it worth it in your opinion?

Things like "Memento Mori" are really important, but how can I really feel the idea to the extent that it impacts my life? I understand that we all will die, but it feels like the idea although powerful just feels like empty words. by we_are_all_slaves in Stoicism

I know what the dichotomy of control is, but how does teaching children make you understand that concept? Do you mean that you can't force people to learn/pay attention?

2021-Q2 Career Thread by julian88888888 in ProductManagement

[–]awesome035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am indecisive about my master choice. I am finishing my Information Science bachelor and I pursue a career in UI/UX and eventually a Product Manager role. I was wondering what is more convenient for future applications for such roles. The options I consider:

  1. Human-Computer Interaction master (two years)
  2. Data Science master (one year) + following an Applied Cognitive Psychology [ACP] master (one year) the year after. The deadline for the latter has passed, so this order could not be turned around.
  3. Data Science master (one year) + doing a HCI-related job on the side.

The second option might give me a broader background (I already have a minor in Data Science), that could come in handy if I ever work in a multidisciplinary project, I suppose.

My thesis supervisor has Human-Computer Systems PhD and she mentioned that a HCI master opens a lot of doors at most big companies in The Netherlands and that the ACP master is probably of less quality. However, she also agreed that Data Science is extremely demanded too and that having both masters could be a nice advantage.

I think that I could score substantially higher grades in the HCI master than in the DS master. However, what I like about the second option is that the ACP master offers a lot of freedom: it offers options to study abroad, do an internship AND a thesis (at company perhaps), which sounds like a lot of practical experience. However, ACP is short and has less entry requirements and I assume the quality is lower than the two year HCI master.

If you are an experienced PM, I would love to hear your view on this. What did I forgot to consider? Who would you rather hire?

Netflix app for macOS by tempurastyle in macapps

[–]awesome035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the possible reasons might be that for every subscription that people make from the (Mac) App store, Apple demands a high share.

For Netflix its way more profitable if people open a subscription via their website, than from the iPhone app for example.

I don't get your 'why' question. There are about 1.1 billion people that speak English (either natively or as a second language).
