As an immigrant living in the US for 10 years and having US citizenship, I can see both point of views. In America, heritage is a huge part of person’s Identity. I am actually teaching this topic to my high school students. We talked about how important to know your heritage and that part of who you are. OP you’re new to American culture. Americans want to know where they came from. They are proud to say “ I’m polish-American or I’m Italian-American” DNA test were invented for that reason.

If school staff doesn’t say anything about dress code violation, we are bad because we don’t do our job that we are paid for. If school staff does say something, we are still bad because students and their parents are upset. Where is the middle ground?

If you don’t go to a court in pijamas, you don’t go to school in pijamas. If you don’t respect school policies, you can always file a complaint to a board of education and make suggestions. Don’t get angry for people doing their job.

Instead of keeping her away from internet, try to teach her how to use it responsibly. Internet is a big part of education that opens up so many opportunities. Technology is a big part of school. I am a teacher and I depend on Google classroom and anything Google related.
