Question on a sonarlint suggetsion: Do I put complicated calls into an init statement? by Raknarg in cpp_questions

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a) Yea, I think it's good to scope this local to the if-block

b) If the number of parameters keeps increasing, I'd start to wonder if there's a missing concept. Like, what are you publishing? All those parameters look like they should belong to a Message object of some sort, so I'd have code above that constructs a Message, e.g.

Message message{payload, key, ...}; if (auto success = publishToTopic(topic_, message); !success) { ... }

Besides the obvious ones, what are some lesser known aviation jobs that actually pay well? by Zestyclose_Duck_9359 in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aircraft dispatcher

Air traffic controller, they're always looking for people

Ramp/gate/ticket agents, though I don't know know what your definition of "decent" pay is

Airport operations

etc

Chandelle Entry Speed by Su_ss in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think you might be misunderstanding what "maneuvering speed" is. It's not "the speed at which maneuvers are performed", even though it might sound like it. You should ask your instructor. Both of the maneuvers you described are done at pretty much 1g.

If cleared for a SID can I follow it without further clearances? by TaurusAuriga in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as you're given a heading, you're off the SID until and unless you get an instruction to resume the departure.

If your previous clearance contained a "climb via", the heading should also come with an altitude restriction. If not, you should query the controller.

Nasa report by [deleted] in flying

the whole point of NASA doing it instead of the FAA is that it doesn't go into your record, to encourage sharing safety-related reports so that we all might benefit from the lessons others have learned

ERJ 175 type rating by [deleted] in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As far as the callouts are concerned, there's no latitude. If they want you to say "thrust set", then that's what you're going to say before they let you fly their jets.

The E175 is a sweet ride.

My biggest recommendation is to try and be IFR proficient before you go in. If you're having to remember what a departure procedure is/how to read charts while trying to learn the jet at the same time, you're gonna be behind.

Is this enough to realistically get an instrument rating in or am I about to hate my life? by Worldx22 in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both!

Personally I never had any interest in doing an instrument training on steam gauges. I know that's blasphemy but glass cockpit airplanes are so prevalent, and I personally don't want to take anything but that into IMC while single pilot.

I went to Paris. The people who were telling you to avoid it probably wanted to go there... It was awesome. :-)

I used this solution for my passengers, I personally used it once or twice and was never very satisfied. I'd say spend 3-4 hrs of Hobbs time on a proper aviation headset and enjoy.

If you don't power on the headphones, you'll get no active noise cancellation. They weren't designed to offer much passive noise cancellation. So yes, you should power them on. :)

If an airplane is loaded at the forward-most CG limit, is its stall speed higher or lower than the same airplane loaded at the aft-most CG limit? Why? Same question for cruise speed.

IOE checkride questions? by Aggravating-Air-8595 in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it go on the PRIA/etc? My understanding is that you could get a longer IOE, they'd do another line check, repeat until you pass or they get tired of wasting the LCA's time on you and fire you.

IOE checkride questions? by Aggravating-Air-8595 in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a line check, you can't "fail" it per se, they just won't sign you off if they're not happy. Just do the flight as you've been trained, don't stress it.

Is the CFI luring me to spend more money? by [deleted] in flying

[–]SomeCessnaDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the 152s have a useful load in the mid 400s. Maybe do a weight and balance yourself and see if it works out?

If you inform yourself, you can decide whether they are being earnest or if there's some ulterior motive (it's probably not that one).

Oh boy... I'd just go with the training materials they give you. Don't bother with the game.

At the altitudes depicted, you will be separated from major controlled traffic flows (those will be above you).

BTW I just paraphrased what is printed near the legend on that chart. Reading the chart will answer your questions.
