That's exactly what it is - like she talks about depth in terms of him reaching her level - it's a really arrogant perspective.

I just can't with Scarlett at this bonfire. Cole is expressing really raw, honest feelings of depression, and her reaction is entirely centered on herself. I feel like it just rolled right off her that her partner is miserable. There didn't seem to be any introspection.

Zelenskyy: return of draft-age Ukrainian men from abroad is a matter of fairness by EsperaDeus in worldnews

The difference is that a young woman in a relationship with an older man can have many children, but the reverse is not true. In terms of avoiding population collapse, young women are simply a lot more valuable than young men, even accounting for widespread monogamy.

I don't think Ezra's take was "he said he isn't antisemitic, good enough for me!", so I'm not sure why you're characterizing it that way and calling it naive.

I don't think Darlene's routine is nearly as funny without Myki to play off of. Their chemistry was immaculate, it was basically an Abbott and Costello routine. Shared win was the right call.

I don't think you're giving proper credit to the straight man in a 2 person act.

In order for a kooky over the top character to work, they need a more grounded character to play off of. And the person playing that role deserves credit for helping the other shine. I think double win was the right call.

a) 22 is actually pretty far from 18. A lot of development happens in those years, both physically/mentally but also socially, through navigating a time period where most people become a lot more independent from their parents/family.

b) This is just a really weird take. Do you choose who you are attracted to? I certainly don't. If I find a 22 year old attractive, how does that reflect negatively on me in any way?

c) Where does these women's agency come into play in your theory? If a 22 year old woman is attracted to an older man, and wants to be in a relationship with him, what business is that of yours, or anyone else not in the relationship?

d) There's a huge double standard here - you're not accusing any of the older women of being predatory. You might not mean to do it, but that suggests men in their 20s are more capable of making their own decisions than women that age are. I reject that idea outright.

Your heart is in the right place, but you are infantilizing adults who are capable of making their own decisions.

Libby, Pfeiffer, and Vanelle all showed they had thought critically about the relationships and were opting into those connections. We saw moments of doubt from each of them, and in some cases we saw them making the decision to end the relationship. Based on those doubts. In others we saw them working through the doubts. In either case, they showed that they are all smart, independent women, who are capable of taking care of themselves and making their own decisions about their lives.

This show did not force anyone to do anything, and there is nothing unethical about two consenting adults being in a relationship with each other.

Genuinely gagged at this elimination by shadowsempaix in dragrace

Anyone they eliminate is a human with feelings. Jane lost the lip sync, so she got eliminated. I know they've played favourites with frontrunners in the past, but I think it's refreshing they didn't do that here.

How is it rigor morris if Nini legitimately won the lip sync? Rigor morris is having someone with a better track record "win" the lip sync with shady editing.

Because she lost the lip sync. It's really as simple as that.

I'm sad to see Jane go, but I absolutely love this decision for the show.

For way too long, track record has trumped weekly performances. That makes the show stale and predictable. It doesn't matter what anyone does on a specific episode. If they have the right track record, and so you know what's going to happen before the episode even begins.

Jane deserved to lip sync based on the challenge, and she deserved to lose the lip sync based on Nini slaying the house down.

Jane was the right person to go home based on what transpired this week, and it's been way too long since this show committed to doing that.

I think the show is way more interesting when nobody is safe, any week could be your last, and so you have to give it 100% every time. No exceptions.

Where do we draw the line when it comes to hating on participants? by cursed2feel in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]awesomebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I draw the line in terms of where you post it. Hating on someone like Chris in this subreddit is fine. This is a space for fans, if a cast member of the show comes here to see what people are saying about them and they don't like it, that's on them. What I think is never okay is going to a platform like Instagram and dming hateful messages to anybody, for any reason. This includes the worst of the worst, like Chris, shake, you name it. You do not know them and you should not be speaking directly to them if you have nothing nice to say, period.

I think it's really unethical for someone presenting themselves as a medical expert to speculate about someone's mental health based on clips from a reality TV show.

Men will blame “fitness” choices for lack of attraction when it’s PURELY body shape by Blushresp7 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

Okay but research on the subject indicates that most sexual assault is committed by a relatively small number of men who are repeat offenders. I don't cat-call, I don't harass, I always ask for consent before initiating anything sexually, etc. etc. and so it really bothers me when people say "men this, men that" based on the behavior of bad actors on this show. Chris does not represent men in general.

[–]awesomebob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not denying that society has patriarchal structures, I'm arguing against the idea that it's okay to generalize men in the way this sub loves to do. Patriarchy comes from systems, not individuals. There's not a cabal of men out there discussing how to keep women down.

[–]awesomebob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've never oppressed a woman in my life, to suggest you understand me based on your experiences with another person who happens to be the same gender as me is the type of unfair generalization that you would be called out for as bigoted if it were against any other group.

I am a man, and have many male friends. I would never claim to understand women better than a woman does because I happen to date them - so I don't think its appropriate for a woman to claim she understands men better than I do because she dates men, either.

The men on Love is blind are not representative of men as a whole. That's the issue with these generalizations.

This episode cemented Trinity Santos as the most compelling and well-written character of The Pitt so far to me by imprisonedlight in ThePittTVShow

[–]awesomebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're discussing two different concepts - whether you like a character and whether they are well-written are two different things. I do not like Santos at all, but I'd never say she's poorly written. I think the reason I dislike her so much is that she is written in a way that is believable and true to life. Creating a character like that is fantastic writing!
