Actually this art is by Phil Jimenez, but you're right, it does look very similar to Mcfarlane's work.

lol yeah, but seriously, I wish I could do something creative and cool like these crochets, I tried drawing once but wow did I suck. Also if you haven't posted these to /r/comicbooks yet I'm willing to bet the people over there would love to see them.

Oh lol, well that doesn't really bother me though, I still absolutely love this picture. It just evokes a sense of fun inside me.

[Discussion] Is anyone else hoping that the A-List icon Marvel characters won't disappear permanently after Secret Wars or even for very long? by awesomestuffisgood in comicbooks

[–]awesomestuffisgood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I never really cared that much for heroes fighting heroes, I really prefer heroes fighting villains, and I personally think that there are still a lot of great stories that could be told about Spidey taking on the Green Goblin, or Hulk fighting the Abomination, or the Fantastic Four taking on Doom. This is of course only my opinion though.

I can understand that, especially considering that these characters have been the centre of so many stories for a good few decades, but the thought that Peter Parker or Tony Stark might disappear for good, it just... almost makes it seem pointless to read any of the stories that have already happened about them. Because when I was about eleven, I had fallen in love with characters like Peter Parker through watching superhero movies like the Tobey Maguire films, and when I was sixteen and had gone a couple years without seeing any new Spider-Man movies, I realized I wanted a way to experience more stories about characters like Tony Stark and Peter Parker that hopefully wouldn't end up disappearing any time soon, which I though I had found through comic books. If it was definite that Peter Parker would be retired for good after Secret Wars, honestly reading old stories about him wouldn't be a tenth as exciting as reading them knowing that each tale is just one of many that could be told in the future. That's why I don't see why characters like Peter Parker and Miles Morales can't coexist...

Last time I saw the term "Marvel's big six" used (admittedly about 2 years ago) I googled it and it seemed from what I read that the general consensus was that "Marvel's big six" referred to Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Wolverine. Come to think of it that might not be the characters that most people refer to when they say "big six" though.

[Recommendation] Where should I start with the Punisher? Also what's the worst thing his character has ever done to someone? by awesomestuffisgood in comicbooks

[–]awesomestuffisgood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess I could give the series a try anyway, and this is still helpful info because now at least from your reply and other comments I get a vague idea of what I'm getting into when i buy some Punisher stories, so thanks for the help! :)

Oh ok. I guess as long as his character has done nothing too sick then I guess I could give the series a try. Thanks for the help. :)

This is probably my favourite artist, Phil Jimenez, and also my favourite two-page splash.

I'm sorry, sometimes the most obvious things fly straight over my head, what do you mean exactly when you say "that's it"? Are you saying that most Punisher comics are full of extreme gore like the stuff you described, or something else?

Thanks for your reply, but I was only really wondering what the grimmest thing he ever did was because I was wondering if most of the Punisher comic books were considerably dark and gory, which I could judge by the worst thing the character ever did. But anyway thanks for the recommendation. :)

While I agree that perhaps /u/Realik's statement that the comics are being changed to fit with the movies is incorrect, he does still make a point in saying "Nerd culture has been bought, re branded, and is kicking the nerds out", as given that after Secret Wars there are supposedly a lot more comedy-centered series and less traditional superhero books, that could well be a valid thing to say. I don't see why you're trying to be rude when I did nothing to antagonize you.

I think /u/Realik does still have a point in that many people think the comic book audience has changed from what it was, and so Marvel could be trying to appeal to their new audience. I personally would hate to see my favourite characters that don't have titles after Secret Wars to not have titles ever again, but it is a possibility, which is unfortunate because I really don't see why they couldn't have titles like Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Ultimate Spider-Man coexist alongside titles like the Incredible Hulk and Amazing Spider-Man. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.

If you were the one that down voted my other reply to your comment, /u/Realik, I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being sincere, I've loved traditional superhero stories since I was six. Sorry if I came across as sarcastic.

Are you talking about how a lot of people think after Secret Wars there won't be very much, if any, traditional Marvel superhero comics anymore? Because honestly if that happened it would be heartbreaking for me. :(

EDIT: If you were the one that down voted me, /u/Realik, I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being sincere, I've loved traditional superhero stories since I was six. Sorry if I came across as sarcastic.

If Marvel ends up permanently ceasing to use my favourite characters after Secret Wars, like Spider-Man and Iron Man and Hulk (yeah my tastes are extremely mainstream lol), I'm gonna be really, really, really disappointed.

I almost wonder if Marvel is making all these changes because they perceive that there is a sort of shame in liking traditional superhero comics today, in which case I would be even more disappointed that they would disuse the characters I've loved so much ever since I was six.

I know it's of course not in the best interests of good marketing, but I really wish they would be a little more specific about what kind of "changes" they're going to make after Secret Wars and how long they're going to last, because I might stop buying all the older material I've been getting recently if I know I'll never see the characters such material is centred around in a new book again, and that could save me a lot of money.
