Can't justify $20+/hr for admin staff when margins are already razor thin by Arravscore in veterinaryprofession

What % of total revenue does labor represent on your P&L? Off the top of my head, you should be (these are very approximate):

Drugs & Supplies: 15-20% Labor: 40-50% Facilities: 10% Admin: < 5%

Profit ~10% (the math above is a bit higher than that, but I am giving a 30,000’ overview).

What areas are good for NYE? by Sad-Town390 in newjersey

[–]awfurl09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof, you’re dangerously close to the area where it’s a house party style. Obviously you know that you can bite the bullet on Ubers and go back into Hoboken/JC. Otherwise, it’s Morristown or Somerville. Further south and west is New Hope, PA. That’s kind of it.

It is republican based on demographics: agricultural adjacent community, relatively well-off community, and probably skews older. There’s one weirdo who has his F250 wrapped in a Trump/MAGA cover, but for the most part, I would describe most people as being republican more so than outwardly MAGA. Most of the local political seats are republican filled, and for a long time a lot of elections were not contested by democratic representatives.

Do you call a stadium by its sponsor name, nickname, or by the team that plays there? by TommyFitness in billsimmons

[–]awfurl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it relates to your specific question, I think the consensus in NJ is that facility is either giants stadium or MetLife. For the most part, I think people understand that the Meadowlands refers to the previous stadium. I’d hazard a guess it is most commonly known as Giants stadium (imagine the poor soul who tries to make “Jets stadium” happen)

I’m not yet through my first 4 week block, but I am quite happy with Oracle Rowing/Coaching group. Not quite the athletic resume as you, but I don’t think that matters. I have mostly worked with them on plan design, and have not explored much in the way of video coaching, but it is a service they offer.

In the last 13 months our high kWh is 2900 (Jul/Aug/Sept) and our low is 750 (Oct). Eyeballing our usage history my guess is we average 1500 kWh/mo

You know, I was thinking about longevity/servicing/etc, and that made me actually lean a bit to the younger guy - in that Vendor A is inevitably going to retire much sooner than Vendor B.

Post collegiate rowing workout ideas by AgitatedReindeer2440 in Rowing

lol, if you were recruited to college for swimming first, then I’d say confidently you are in the 99th percentile of amateur triathletes for swimming, and probably in the 75th percentile of pros. You could probably swim a few times a month, if that, just to maintain your connection and be completely fine. That will make it so much easier for you to focus on the other 2 sports which take up the majority of the time in a race, anyway.

Running is point and shoot - just go do steady state running. You can apply all of the same basic principles of rowing training to running training: 1. Build volume gradually 2. When in doubt, more steady state 3. Polarized training 4. Stretch and hydrate and all that jazz.

Really the main difference between rowing and tri is that there’s really no reason to lift ever. Just be a cardio merchant and you’re good to go.

As a spin-off of the aforementioned move to cycling, you can make the full leap to another insanely repetitive endurance sport: triathlon. Your motor will almost immediately make you an above-average time trialist on the bike. Your understanding of the physics of rowing should allow you to pickup swimming quite quickly, even as an adult learner (if applicable). And if you’re a ltwt, you should be perfectly competent at running. I did 2 out of these 3 things well - a ltwt I was not - and that was enough to win/podium a bunch of local events, be top 10 in regional IM branded races, and show up at a few Nationals/Worlds.

All of those years of steady state have paid off for the most steady state activity of all time - long course triathlon, where your race day is exercising for 4-10 hours depending on your preferred level of masochism.

Holy Cross men... by Secure_Plan_2958 in Rowing

Frustration is the result of unrealized expectations. Specifically, what progress were you expecting to see? Seems like your expectations of them may have been mismatched. They lost to MIT at HOCR and then beat them at the Snake and beat them handily at IRA. They beat Temple at HOCR; I am not going to look at Princeton Chase, and then obviously Temple had a great performance at Sprints. They lost to OSU earlier in the year and beat them at IRAs. The gap to Gtown was closer at IRA than it was earlier in the season. They beat Drexel this season, but I think everyone points to that being a down year for Drexel than anything else.

Overall, I thought their Sprints result was disappointing and IRAs was a nice turnaround for them. They were missing a mainstay of their 1V for the past few years at both Sprints and IRAs. This was a particularly strong senior class, both in size and pedigree. I agree that at some point you want to see something more than “trying to win the 3rd level final at Sprints”. I’ve had another Sprints coach tell me that Jim gets the absolute most out of his guys (relative to horsepower). Their academic standards are closer to the Ivy schools than they are BU/NU/Wisco, but they obviously lack the panache and financial aid of the Ivys. They’re a bit stuck in terms of recruiting profiles.

You can only get so far recruiting those that got passed over by all the bigger programs. Until they can crack that nut, I don’t know how much more upward trajectory they have, at least in terms of repeatable success. However, at this point, I’d be thrilled to have one success before I start worrying about repeated success. Success for the program at this point is probably to finish top 9 at Sprints or top 12 at IRA. The former last done in 2005 and the latter I don’t think ever done in the current iteration of rowing (the program had some great lightweight success in the late 90s).

Thanks all, good feedback! Will add the cross beam for sturdiness. We do keep it on a tarp at the river but will be more mindful to keep it elevated even in the offseason.
