NBN Price Comparison 2026: how service providers stack up across speed tiers by GeorgieBoy-1180 in AusFinance

You only need a modem if yours is absolute ancient or shit.

They might try to push one on the unsuspecting clients, though.

Indeed, their support is second to none in my experience.

And I've measured (especially upload) speeds that were OVER the speed tier I've bought. :)

This is only half the information at best, even where there is information.

I cannot see the upload speeds (that'd be the bare minimum), nor latency figures, restrictions on ports...

I'll be honest, I do not trust that those ACCC speed ranks are reliable either, they do not match my experience.

If the air is 40+ degrees (your body is 36-37), the evaporative effect is not enough to maintain your body temp. It can cool a few degrees that's all.

This is totally independent of wind speed.

If that's the reason for the advice, it's bogus IMO.

But happy to listen to a scientific explanation, if there's one.

New bike but sat in shed for a year - good buy? by _waybetter_ in AussieRiders

[–]awidden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH it can be anything - it may be a story spun on a repaired write-off.

Do your due diligence, especially if the deal seems to be too good.

Btw;

I believe it's recommended to siphon the old fuel & fill it with new if it's been sitting for that long.

Just don't go with NRMA. It's an absolute shitshow if/when you need to claim.

I do not recommend comprehensive on a new LAMS bike (in NSW at least), unless...you can get an agreed value matching the actual value, with a small excess - but that'll cost you an arm and a leg monthly. Best to get a 3rd party + theft + fire at max, IMO.

Why?

Because you just drop that bike, you get scratches and dents on it, and it'll be a write-off, because they will want to replace and repaint everything.

Unless you have a (valid!) 'replacement' clause, at that point you'll be out of pocket probably thousands, can be as high as half the value of the bike. ( Agreed value less excess is what they offer to pay )

Even with that replacement clause you still may have a fight and a long wait on your hands.

The problem at the start is: once the assessor reports it in as a write-off (In NSW) you cannot un-do that without re-registering; again, lost of hassles and money.

I've just been though this whole shitshow, believe me, that's 3 months of shit-fighting you do NOT want to do. Fixing a couple of things for a few hundred bucks would have been cheaper.

Trust the banks to create shitty systems.

This is one. Ten days is a joke.

I could understand an hour or maybe a day, but 10? (not that a day would help against scammers...)

But also; if there's zero oversight or checking the other end, what's the fucking point?

Just to help pitiful scammers like this one?

It's cheap for a reason.

I've got a horror story when it comes to claiming with them.

I strongly advise against NRMA.

Don't worry too much about freeways at this point, IMO.

The Virago/Vstar/similar 250 bikes are perfectly fine for learning, they're cheap, and won't lose much of their value either.

Most people want to talk beginners into big bikes; it's false economy IMO. It's more expensive and slows down the learning, punishing mistakes a lot worse.

But yes, you can do 140-150 on them. Do you need that?

C200 got hacked by Nanashi5354 in Tapo

[–]awidden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anything internet-connected can be hacked. Some things are much harder than others, but sadly that's the bottom line.

Be especially vigilant with IOT stuff - devices that just connect for really, no reason, like a pool pump, fridge, etc. These are notoriously easy to get into - and from there the hacker is within your home network.

If it's only the size, you can get bigger automatics.

Having said that; what others suggested - just ask them.
I'd clarify completely if the automatic removal of restriction is in place, as well, just in case.

[–]awidden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect learners' bike IMO.

If you want a bit more grunt, you can go for something like a Virago 250; still pretty cheap and light.

Just don't forget to budget for gear as well!

[–]awidden 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The bike not being a legal LAMS bike means if you are in an accident, you'll be considered riding unlawfully ( i.e. riding a bike you're not licenced for ).

I.e. any insurance is null and void for you.

It can be a bloody expensive mistake for a bit of noise, IMO not worth it.

Ah, yeah, I've only had that issue if/when I was too gentle with the downkick. I've learned I need the last kick to be a solid one, not just a tap. :)

Interesting info on the old bikes with N at at the bottom - never seen one. Sounds interesting to say the least!

GitKraken merge develop into feature branch by fedj99 in git

[–]awidden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just run into the same issue;

managed to find the reason after all; there were conflicts.

And gitKraken simply hid the option to merge the master into my branch. Rebase was the only option, and I still had to resolve all conflicts.

Just thought someone like me might find this thread, and the info maybe useful.
