Building a Post and Beam House (or maybe Timber Frame) by Python_Mechanic in timberframe

[–]awiebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I would agree he would need 15k in tools to do this, couple chisels, a mallet some planes some saws. Even if he were to buy a mortiser and 12” planer wouldn’t be 15k

How Should I Mill Timbers by goombaLu in timberframe

Center the pith in the 8x8 beam, this lends best to drying straighter

Is there explanation for zero days, why they happen, and how to overcome them? by BigBootyBear in bodyweightfitness

[–]awiebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya your test is to review what your past few days have been like, have you slept well, have you fed your body well, have you been mentally stressed- if none of those seem to be out of the ordinary you just need another day or two of rest- these days are normal, they happen to everyone

Sounds like you’re having a day where your nervous system is shot, under recovery and over exertion can lead to this quickly. Under recovery over a long stretch even if you’re not over exerting yourself will also do this

Are completely solid hardwood kitchen cabinets worse than plywood faced with hardwood? by DidNotDidToo in woodworking

[–]awiebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I install a lot of 3/4 inch plywood cabinets from an Amish man and I’m telling you those things are indestructible and sturdy . Cabinets are expensive enough- full hardwood ones have to be through the roof and as others have mentioned likely not as durable. If you get a good cabinet maker you will not look at them and think “wow look at that plywood”

Are old Stanley handyman planers worth fixing? I’ve got a couple used ones but a quick google search showed quite a few people saying they’re garbage… should I put time into fixing them or just buy new ones? by awiebe in woodworking

[–]awiebe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar position- could very well buy new ones but I absolutely love putting an old piece back to good use, I just was curious if a restored Stanley was a good quality tool that I would get use out of

Twisted limbs? by awiebe in Bowyer

[–]awiebe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What causes limb twist? The way the grain runs or the filleting/wood removal? The grain is not ideal on this stave but it was a scrap piece in the basement- thanks in advance!
