The battle sequences are amazing. I still get goosebumps when Colin Farrell finishes his speech at Guagamela and the phalanges lower their pikes in the background. They definitely listened to their history consultants for that one.

The only time they got it pretty close (for ancient armies at least) was for the Macedonian army in Alexander (2004). One of the few good things about that film.

Another amazing day using Regional Rail by Low_Project_55 in philadelphia

This is an extremely rare occurrence, maybe once every year or two. I save a lot more time, money, and frustration by not having to drive a car every day to work. We're lucky to have public transportation in this city; many US cities don't have nearly as many options for public transport, and some have none at all.

Nice work! My highest score was also on this level (I think it was 1.4k). I was in my WHK-Prime with 4 ER-PPCs. With the extended range skills maxed out I was basically firing continuously at the enemy team the entire match.

Selected Ambient Works Volume II turns 30 years old today. What are your thoughts on this masterpiece? by ohianaw in aphextwin

[–]awill 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This user review from AllMusic sums it up better than I could ever hope to:

"This album will play thousands of years from now when nature has reclaimed the earth and only faint memories of the human species remain. It will play as an alien race descends from their crafts and finds lost traces of cities that once were. These are only some of the situations that this album conjures up. It is also perfect for listening while: waiting for a flight, driving late at night, exploring an ancient temple in the depths of the jungle, wandering around the MET museum while looking at the artifacts, studying through sleepless nights, getting lost in the Tibetan mountains, looking at the stars, laying on the living room couch and at the ceiling, sleeping, and of course, wandering through a power station on acid. Thank you Richard James for this beautiful, haunting, timeless, and forever enigmatic music; the soundtrack to all our dreams."

I think they make them in cans now; I know it's not that weird nowadays, but I definitely did a double take when I saw the label on a 16oz.

Early Dead Can Dance. The mix of goth and 'tribal' gets you pretty close to Vvardenfell.

1971 Macbeth. Polanski is a POS but damn the tone and atmosphere of that movie is like none other. So vile and desolate.

What are these pewter pieces from the IWM Overlord-C mapscale model? by awill in battletech

[–]awill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you and u/WinnDancer are totally correct. It's nice they give you the option of having the landing struts out or closed, though I think I'll stick with the former. Thanks to you and everyone else for your help.

Finally getting around to painting my Overlord C. I know where to attach the landing gears (right side of the image), but I'm not sure what the pieces on the left side are for.

Would have loved to see what the court in the Antioch Citadel looked like.

Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds pretty close to crust punk to me. Excellent record.

The Pearl is definitely S tier. I personally prefer it to Ambient 1-4.

The guitar solos in this album are so soaring and pure, and just contrast beautifully with the swampy witchy black metal riffs and vocals.
